@Rightnow 950 seems to be a fair price for them. Did you also get it from the dealer itself? i have seen many VW dealers quoting different prices for different accessories. In my case I asked 3 dealers while buying my Polo about getting the door handles & OVRM painted and all quoted different price for the same.

Yeah, another workshop quoted 1150 for the sills.
They all are different in quoting prices for accessories coz this is where their margin lies. Its the same trend across all car manufacturers not just VW, so its just up to our luck to get a fair price.

But we can complain about this right?
Different showrooms, different prices. What the hell!

@ Rightnow - Yes I know that is where the profit margin lies for the dealers but again the accessories come from the company itself with a MRP on it. I don't know about other dealers but I've been to 2-3 Ford dealers for accessories last year and they all had the same list with the same prices. Even though all 3 of them were in different states(Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab) with different taxes I guess.

@Jihu123 - yes I think this matter should be put forward to the VW management as they have wrongly given full freedom to the dealer itself to charge any amount they feel like for any given accessory.

@GM88 and Jihu

Let's see the other side of the coin- what if our complaint materializes and VW decides to fix the price of genuine accessories? In all possibilities, looking at attitude of VW, the prices will be at higher side. For instance, door sills may be fixed at 1500 Rs., and customers at large would lose the bargaining power, resulting a customer like me ending up paying higher for what I could have got for 1100 bucks. Such a move by VW will also diminish the possibility of availability of accessories in afterrket shops. Are you getting me guys? We can discuss.

Well how will it affect the availability of accessories in the after market shops?
Yes I know if VW decides to fix the rates of accessories it will be going to be on the higher side but it will prevent the dealers from making a fool out of a less aware customer. Ofcourse enthusiasts like us will not fall into their prey but those who are unaware of what's in the market and blindly get accessories from the dealer at whatever price he is quoting will be looted for sure.
Yes its like two sides of a coin. Either do some research and bargaining to get the best deal in today's scenario or get a fixed price everywhere with no area for bargain or discounts etc.

If the prices are regulated then most possibly vw will not allow anybody other than dealer to stock them. In such a case, there may be a vw stamp for genuine accessories which may not be sold at accessories shops.
These are a few thoughts that came to my mind, when we talked about accessories. Nevertheless, a consistency in price should be there within some tolerable limit. I agree that variations in price to extent of 1100 to 2000 is too much.
What we can probably do is notify vw about this practice by dealers and suggest a upper limit of prices on all accessories.

Yes an upper cap should be fixed for every accessory and it shouldn't be sold beyond that particular pricing.

Had a little stupid experience right now. Last night I had not checked if all windows were rolled up. The rear passenger side window was only partially up and it rained all night yesterday here. Just took out the car in the evening for a spin and had put some shopping bags on the rear seat. While taking them out saw a small pool of water in the rear and the rear seat was all wet. Have been drying it for past 1 hour now with a dry blower. Finally all clear. Will see it properly in the morning though.[anger]

Ohh. That's a bad thing to happen.
Now chances are that your car will stink for a few days. If it becomes unbearable then some more dry cleaning needs to be done. This is why I always miss the driver side control for all windows on polo.

Yup I am also a little scared about the stink. Hope its not all that bad as there was very little water inside that I could see. Thankfully the car was under shade which reduced the entry of the rain water inside.

Will come to know the exact picture in the morning only though.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Did a proper check up of the rear seats of my Polo today. Luckily not much water had poured inside and it had all dried up by now. No stain marks either on the back seat. Kept the car in the Sun for some while today with all 4 windows rolled down so as to get away with any kinds of smell. So after all this small parade its all fine now. No more wet seats and no bad odour in the car.
