Anish ,hoping to look more of Rajasthan and sand dunes.[:)]

One more question, were you checking the engine oil level, all through the trip?

Was there any dip in level of oil?

@Mushesh : yes, i was checking the oil levels regularly. There was not much dip in the oil levels. I had topped them up before leaving for the drive. Couple of thousands of kilometers have already passed after the trip and the oil levels are good for few thousands more.. [:)]

@ Anis, 150 k / hr is good speed but expect that same speed in updating your TL

@Mukesh any specific reason why oil level needs to be monitored, because its only 5k km and I think the level should hold good. Why I am asking is I am taking a trip of around 2000 km and want to double check on things that I need to do

Because high speed driving on highways consumes a part of engine oil, more than it is consumed in city usage.

So i asked Anish especially seeing his continuous usage.

In city Engine is strained a lot in stop go situation, on highways strain is less on engine but consumption of engine oil tends to be more.

Last summer we did a continous drive of 1700 km in 23 hours in our Manza. Our driver was at a speed of 145 kmph most of the times and he tested 165 and 170 levels too. After the trip, we found that oil level was down and had to top up 500 ml.

So as Mukesh mentioned, 5000+ km in highspeeds can consume more oil.

Point noted though I will not be on that high speed, but will definitely be on high altitudes. But will still keep a vigil.

We moved on from NE 1 and crossed the Ramol Toll Plaza.

After going straight for some time we reached the Ranasan Circle from where we took a right turn towards Udaipur. 30 kms straight from the roundabout is Gandhinagar. We went right, which was a 2 laned road, wonder why that stretch is still 2 laned. Traffic was high all the way after NE 1 so the speed was moderate. We reached Chiloda from where the it was again 4 laned. If we went 10 kms to the left hand side we would have reached Gandhinagar from Chiloda.

Once we reached the 4 laned roads it was almost dark and from Chiloda it is around 230 kms more to Udaipur. Roads were pretty empty till Ratanpur.

Some where around Himmatnagar

We crossed Himmatnagar at around 6.30 pm and was at the Rajasthan border near Ratanpur at around 8.

The truck traffic increased after Ratanpur and in the dark we curved through the winding roads of the Aravalli hills and kept on ruing the fact that we missed the scenic beauty of the green Rajasthan. However, no point pondering and we promised to ourselves to come back again and enjoy the drive at that point of time.

A small video after crossing Rajasthan border :

Crossed Rajasthan Border - YouTube

We crossed Rikhabdeo at around 8.40pm. Nothing much to say in the mean time, as we were driving in the darkness snaking along amidst the huge trucks. The roads were good though.

We planned to drive straight to the pichiola lake instead of going to the hotel as the palace is lit up at night amidst the lake and if we dont visit now we wont be in a position to look into it the next day as we would be driving in the morning again.

We reached Udaipur at around 9.40 pm and as planned headed straight towards the Pichola lake. The roads are very narrow inside Udaipur but the traffic was low, so it was not an issue.

Once we reached Pichola lake what a view we had. All the tired bodies after the long drive got rejuvenated and we all enjoyed that moment. Clicking pictures and posing in front of the camera was what we did in the next half an hour.

Let have a look at some pictures.

After all the shoots, it was time for checking in to a hotel for the night's sleep. But it was not to be so easy. It was 26th Dec and Udaipur was packed up with tourists and not a single room anywhere. The RTDC's were full. The ones which we got was either not a place of our liking or did not have a car parking space or few asking a very exorbitant price like 3k-4k-5k for only the night. It was almost midnight but our search was on. At last we got a hotel named Govind Dham which was only a minute walk from the city palace. It had its own parking space and the room was very good. We managed to bargain a bit and settled at 1700 for the night.

But no food. All the hotels were closed and the one we stayed mentioned in the beginning that they don't have any food.

That's when my food bank came to our help again. Breads, eggs, aloo bhaji and a couple of parathas. A great assorted dinner. [clap]

We crashed for the day at around 2 am. Next day will be another hectic day. Plan was, we would visit the city palace, pichola lake at day light and move to Chittorgarh and visit the fort and then move on to Jaipur that day itself.

It was a aggressive one and please stay tuned to see how we managed them all..

Thats a great tour.
I was planning to drive to Guwahati from Surat in Apr 13. However we shortened it to Kanha instead.
Were driving alone or was there a reliver?
My friend drove to Sikkim from Surat with family in his AC Gypsy. He was driving alone.
He gave me the same route.
Happy driving

Although he had few companions in his car, he was the lone driver. Seems that he is too occupied with his works, as he has visited few more places after this trip and has not bothered to post anything. One of his more recent trips to the densely forested and insurgency prone areas in the state of Jharkhand was really commendable.

Hi Anish,

Superb TL and looking fwd to the upcoming stories. Recently I did a solo trip of Goa in my Wagon R and I was able to maintain consistent speeds of 110-120 on NH4 and infact I did hit upto 140 and amazingly the car was very stable .

My future plans are to drive from Coonoor (my current place of residence) to my home in Kolkata sometime around december The stretch that i am most worried is BBSR to Kolkata can u please throw some light on this stretch.

Nice to know HVK Sir is on this forum will definitely contact him also.

As I have driven back to Calcutta from BBSR barely a fortnight ago, please allow me to inform you that the road is in excellent shape. It is being upgraded to a six lane road, from the present four lane one. A new bridge has been completed at Kolaghat, so the traffic jam is gone. But in many places one side of the divider is closed for ongoing construction works, although the road is sufficiently wide at those places. But feel prepared to waste a good 15-30 minutes at the border check-post near Jaleswar, due to heavy truck congestion.
