And can you imagine - till a few years ago, NH6 used to be a narrow 1-laner in some sections in Orissa - the Jashpur-Keonjhar sector especially?
Kumar sir, last week I happened to drive through some of the interiors of south Bengal and Jharkhand. Looking at the abject condition of roads, mostly single lane and broken in most places, I can only imagine the hardships the people who stay there face every day. As a nation which wants to showcase itself to the world as a model developing nation, the pathetic state of infrastructure tells a completely different story. Forget about us tourists, its the people who live outside cities in these parts who need this infrastructure badly, for food, for their livelihood and most importantly urgent medical needs. Instead of fighting corruption strongly which has created this mess, our politicians go with a begging bowl to other countries for investment in infrastructure [frustration]

Come to think of it. One of the faster superfast express train between Kol Mum does it in 32 hours and you did it in 40 hours. Great job.

Anis- Kudos to your achievement, hats off to you & your precious car. Youv'e set a benchmark in this forum, if I may say so. Could you give some insights as to how you convinced your family to allow you 3 to undertake such an arduous journey?[confused]

Btw I'm planning a trip on the 18th of Feb to Panchalingeswar & Devkund in Orissa from Kolkata. Could you give me any tips on the road conditions or anything that may come to your mind?

Cheers

Jazzy

Thanks Jazzy for your appreciation...Yes, my Manza did prove to be an excellent and dependable machine after all.. I was discouraged by many but i did lots of research and stuck to my decision and it paid off.. Highly recommended car from my side.. ASC's have also improved from Tata's end by leaps and bounds and i do not have any complaint till date..Hope this continues..

I did not have to convince anybody in my family...[;)].. 2 reasons for that :

a) They did not have much idea about the whole trip and how much strain it can put on me..
b) I do not need to answer anybody. Everybody supports me in whatever i do.. My family is very cooperative ..But yes, once they understood the route, they were a bit concerned, which was manageable...

and most importantly they are used to my vagabond nature and they know i do always have the skating shoes on.. There are lots of stories in the past.. HAHAHAH [;)]

From Kolkata, you would be taking the NH 6 till Kharagpur.. From Kharagpur you have to take left into NH 60 and then NH 5 till Balasore. Excellent roads and very straight forward.. You can check out my logs in this blog.. One thing you should be keeping in my mind is the exits from Kharagpur.. Do not take the first exit on the left, instead go below the loop and take left into NH 60. If you take the first exit you would go straight into NH 6 towards the roundabout where the 1st exit goes into kgp city, the 2nd exit goes towards Baharagora and the 3rd exit towards Medinipur. So if it a 1st time that route be alert in the kgp loop, otherwise a very straight forward road.. For Panchalingeswar, you have to take right into SH19 after Balasore towards Nilagiri... Roads are in moderate condition, but i do not have the latest road condition on SH19.

Honestly speaking, I used to find this junction very confusing and have even made mistakes at least a couple of times at past. :stupid: As I do not employ a GPS device, I remember I subsequently used to have a good glance of this junction in Google Earth from my computer, before negotiating this stretch.

Well done Anisghosh

i think I also started at the same time you did for the trip. But mine was from Dhanbad to Udaipur.

Covering more than 1000Kms in 22 Hrs is really a tough task.Well done[clap]

I did around 1K in 14 Hrs from Dhanbad to Jhansi, which for me was too much. I slept 10 Hrs after that.[sleep]

Waiting for the rest of the Trip-Log and Supersonic videos [:D]

Click on the log to have a better view. Had to accommodate the total log in one print screen for which had to reduce in size.

Sorry to keep you all waiting..

Day 3:

That day in Mumbai was pretty cool and relaxing, c/o Somen and Maumita Ghosh. Relaxing, gossiping and a small get together with everybody was what we did all day. We packed up before we went to sleep as we wanted to maximize our sleep as much as we could. Its never possible to move out very early when you are in a relative's house. All sort of sentiments and cannot move out without having breakfast and etc etc..

Day 4:

Some how we took care of everybody's sentiments and managed to move out but not before 9.30..

Photo session before leaving Malad :

Day 4 : Mumbai - Udaipur

Just while leaving we came to know that Subho's father had to be hospitalized the night before but Subho was not told about that, basically none of us was informed. His parents did not want his trip to be curtailed or abandoned at that point of time. They where very supportive and excited that Subho is part of such a trip and they wanted him to complete this journey. But it was going through my mind in case of emergency if he needs to fly back from where should i get him board the flight and etc etc. Subho somehow might have overheard something and he was also guessing something and had become very quite.

With lots of these things running through my mind we started our journey. Suddenly it came to mind that that among all the things happening all around i had forgot to stick the yellow tapes in front of the headlights as we would be going through GJ and RJ.

Stopped and put those yellow tapes and now it was time for a diesel fillup. Pumps in the link road either did not accept credit cards or was having long queues. At last got a pump at Goregaon Western Express Highway which accepted credit cards and was having less queue.

I was trying to call Subho's mom to get the latest update on the situation but the line was getting through and could not get any update. We left the pump at around 10.30 and then the fears came true. There was huge traffic jams from there on through Godhbunder ghats. We were getting late but could not help had to move in a snails pace and we wasted around 45 mins in the jam.

Few pictures of that traffic :
