Re: Renault Kwid Sub-4 Lakh Car Launching This Festive Season

Think that I saw this car being tested on the Bangalore road yesterday. Saw this on the Domlur ring road when I was on my bike and could not take any snaps of the same.

How was it in person? Tall? Spacious? Quirky? Can you explain it a bit.

Actually could not see it in detail but looks bigger compared to Alto and EON. Almost the size of Santro. Had quite noticeable head room. The body was completely covered with black and white sticker/sheet. The tail-lamp was box type but could not get a complete picture due to the traffic. It had the MH temporary registered number.

That's a good thing. Tall design with decent legroom will take it to top 3 position. But before that, they need more showrooms, better A.S.S and salesman who want to sell the product! Everytime I visit their showroom, I have to pester them to get a salesman! [frustration]

Hi Tejblr, Kwid is manufactured in Chennai and hence will have TN registration. Moreover, all previous Kwids spied did not have much of a camo. On the other hand, the small car recently and very commonly seen with full Black and White Camo stickering is Tata Kite. It is manufactured in Maharashtra and has mostly been spied with MH plates. Going by all these, it looks like the car you saw was Tata's Kite and not the Kwid [:)]

That's something. If that's the case, I have one more launch to chuckle!

May be but not sure [:)]. Reason for it being Kwid is that, it had the same cladding that is shown in one of the earlier pics. More over, the logo was not visible but it had a big patch (additional papers were sticked).

This car has a high ground clearance - 180 mm +. This will help to take on any kind of roads, with potholes particularly. Hope the suspension will be able to handle the bangs on the potholes.

Re: Renault Kwid Sub-4 Lakh Car Launching This Festive Season

With wider tires Kwid will surely stand out from A segment crowd. I sincerely hope that Renault does not spoil the game with ultra-thin metal in the structure like Datsun did in Go. Neither Renault nor Nissan can afford what Maruti did with Alto 800, only Maruti can use wafer thin metals in their budget cars and still that would be number 1 selling car in the country.

Well, the Kwid looks very promising, design elements are nice and catchy, interior also good (don’t know about the materials quality yet), the digital speedometer and 7 inch touchscreen will attract many first time buyers, in fact I would love to test drive the car when launched though I am not into the market to buy new car.[drive]

Hope safety is not taken for a ride in Kwid.

Yesterday I also saw one test car on MG Road at around 12:00pm. It looked size of Figo, if it is Kwid then Eon and Alto 800 will look tiny.

I don't like the logic of unveiling it so soon and make it available 6 months after. But it'll make the potential customers to wait a little longer before taking the decision. Am too looking a car in this segment to upgrade it from my age old Santro. Hoping the spacing matches with my Santro.

Well Judging by the interest in our forum and in other forum, i feel with Kwid, Renault have another success story one which might be bigger than Duster.

Re: Renault Kwid Sub-4 Lakh Car Launching This Festive Season

Jaipur: Renault is gearing up to launch its first mass-market A-segment vehicle - Kwid which looks rather a crossover than a hatchback with Duster-like-esque. At the time of revealing, Renault said that the Kwid will be powered by an 800 cc three-cylinder petrol motor but reportedly the automaker will also introduce a 1.0-liter motor after 6-8 months of Kwid’s 0.8-liter launch.

At the time of unveiling, Renault did not reveal the specification of the 0.8-liter engine and even there is no info about this rumoured 1.0-liter motor. This said, Renault UK’s range starter model Twingo also comes in with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder naturally aspirated motor. Christened as Sce-70, it chucks out a healthy 70 hp at 6000 rpm and 90 Nm at 2850 rpm. If Renault India offers this engine with the Kwid in the same specs, it would give the Kwid the required performance matching with the crossover appearance.

And like the 0.8-liter, 1.0-liter will also be mated to an AMT - Automated Manual Transmission along with the 5-Speed manual. Reportedly, Renault will be locally manufacturing this AMT gearbox at their Chennai facility to keep the prices in check and in-line with Kwid's whopping 98 percent localisation!

The Kwid 1.0-liter will compete with EON 1.0-liter and Alto K10 and the AMT version will square-off against the Alto K10 AMT. The Kwid received an overwhelming response at the unveiling and a more powerful engine would further increase its customer reach. Moreover, expect larger tyres or maybe sportier appearance in the Kwid 1.0-liter.
