Removing Dents on Car

Hi,

Having taken my car out on Saturday, i parked it up in the evening and didnt check on it whole day on sunday. Then we took it out on Sunday in the darkness. When the guy came to wash the car on monday, we saw a 200mm wide dent on the front of the bonnet. Looks like either someone sat on the bonnet or something fell on it. This dent is a place where there is inside structure, so i cant push ot out easily. Still i managed to get in a screw driver or allen key in from the side holes & managed to push at the sheeting to get the dent out. Atleast most of it. There is still a crease line with a small depression & rippling in the steel at the same location. Some of the colour tone has also changed. What can be done?

Not sure how much you can see in the pic. Since i pushed out most of the dent with a screw driver and allen key, only a small dent is left. But the sheet metal has lost ists curve & stiffness and has discolored slightly. And the surface has bevome wavy. You can feel it by running your hand over the car. My mechanic told me nothing can be done unless the underside spot welding is opened & the hood is repainted

I understand the situation sir,yes the mechanic has pointed out correctly.
But the slight chips of surface ,can be repaired by rubbing.You may ask the ASS guys(Rubbing is usually free).
If he insists that ,it can only be replaced then don't go for it.

Hi,
There is no chip on the surface. Whats happened is that the metal bent over and the colour got stretched. Hence the colour hue has changed & its gotten sloghtly darker at the folds. That "chip" you see is a reflected light because i took the photo at night.

You can ask your service guy as MASS. Although his advice would be no different that what the mechanic said, you can get the rubbing done on that area.
The ripples you are talking about would have still been there even if you would have got the dent removed at the mechanic's shop. Factory like precision is hard to achieve. Repainting would also lead to color mismatch with the rest of the car. Best is to let a mechanic (experienced denter) remove the dent without messing with the welding points to the best possible extent. This is the best you would be able to remove that dent without a part replacement.

As VISHNUCARCRAZY said, don't go for replacement of the hood if you have to pay entirely from your pocket.

The mechanic I showed this to is experienced and he informed nothing more can be done. What I did was the most that could be done without replacing the entire hood. I could replace the hood under insurance but that would also reduce the value of the car. So I decided to run it as is. May be I can claim the insurance just before it expires in October. There is nothing necessarily wrong with it structurally, just aesthetically

Repairing - Denting Ford Figo

Dear Automotive India Readers,

My Ford figo was hit by Ecosport from back and got dent on below right tail light and on ford figo steel logo. Please find the picture.
If anyone having same kind of information than do reply with the needful and approx cost and techniques to remove the dent.

Once I got a hit on my rear bumper and the dent was completely removed by Maruti Authorised garage against Rs.700/-as far as I can remember. You may try because dent is not alarming like mine.

Huge and deep scratch but do not worry. Just go to the local workshop and they will fix the bumper and dent.

Requesting other members please suggest him some good local workshops name.

The dent from rear quarter panel has be fixed (hopefully using PDR) [rs 750]. If not PDR [RS??], then it will have to repainted as well. [Rs2500]

The bumper will be fixed with bolt like things [Rs500?) and it has to be repainted [Rs2500]

Expect Rs5000+costs if done at reputed bodywork shops
