Yeah VW have introduced this Ground clearance process recently. Nice move by VW I would say.
How much was your service cost? Post in details as when you get time.
First service experience

Called up last thursday and took an appointment for Friday. During my call they gave me an estimate of 10k. Next day morning I dropped the car at their showroom on my way to office at 9 AM.Service station is far off so asked the showroom guys to take care of that.

At around 11 I got a call from workshop asking if I needed any additional repair or if I had any additional complaints. I said I want only the basic servicing and the minimal cost possible :) Again I got a call asking for free front ground clearance upgrade and I was told it will be covered under warranty and no additional charges apply.

Around 5 PM got a call saying car is getting washed and I can pick it up at 5.30 from their showroom. Now was the tense moment when I asked them about the total bill. The guy said 8.5k total sir!! And I was a relieved man.

I reached the showroom at around 6, paid my bill and must say I'm very very impressed with the quality of their service. You dont mind spending the extra money on VW vehicle. As always was offered coffee/juice and They made me sit and explained each and every component's charge in the bill and only once I was convinced they asked me to sign.

They told me to come to them only after 30k km for next service and told me to call them up if I had any complaints wrt to the first service. I just love these VW folks at Mangalore. When it comes to service they are the best!

The oil change takes up the majority part of your bill!

Now for the twist in the story. While checking my bill, They asked me if I was a rally driver. I said no, for which they said your brake pads may have to be replaced within the next 4-5k km as they seem to be weak. They would charge 2.5k for the pair I guess. They asked me to drive smoothly.

End of the day I left the showroom as a Happy and satisfied VW customer!

I don't understand why VW fills synthetic oil in our cars. I mean, come on. It's only a 1.2l TDi engine after all. It isn't a Nissan GTR or an 458 Italia or even a 320d for that matter. I'd rather change mineral oil every 10k kms than synthetic oil at almost 4 times the cost at 15k kms. I haven't noticed ANY difference with synthetic engine oil in my Getz. I tried it because people said the engine becomes smoother and blah blah. [frustration] I'll be going back to mineral oil again because it is definitely cheaper and does not make any difference in engine performance.
If VW had stuck to mineral engine oil, I think the annual service cost would have reduced by atleast Rs. 2000 which would have made the ownership a lot more better [:D]

@vijetshetty - 8.5k is quite less when compared to my 1st service charge of nearly 10k. How much kms did your car complete?
Also, are you really a rally driver? [;)]

maybe only the volkswagen can give a reply to that. Anyways, I would be staying with the synthetic oil itself. Can't take a risk in polo's smoothness !

8.5 is quite reasonable service charge for VW I would say.
So have you got the ground clearance improved too? Did you notice any difference in handling due to it.

btw you should have really liked being called a Rally driver

Lol[:D] no I'm not a rally driver. But yeah a bit harsh on brakes sometimes i guess. My car completed 10 months yesterday and has clocked 15,000 km and hence had to give it for service.

I totally agree with you, dont want to risk the smoothness of polo by compromising on oil.

Sorry missed out MQ in my prev reply.

Yes got the ground clearance improved. I could feel the difference while driving as I took time to adjust with the new height. But no compromise done on handling. Polo is at its best after servicing.

Was proud to be called a rally driver but Its going to cost me additonal 2-2.5k in the near future for the braking blunder I have done for the past 15k km [frustration]

Hehe. But the Polo is not as smooth as a car with the national diesel engine (a.k.a Multijet diesel in the Fiat, Swift, etc) [frustration] And yes. I will be sticking on to synth for my Polo because that is what the manufacturer recommends and knowing how unreliable Germans are, I'm not about to take a chance.

What was the difference that you felt? Did you feel that the car was riding higher or was stability also slightly affected?

waiting for the experience.!
Btw, did you pay to get the GC increased? Coz when I enquired about this in the showroom, the guy said that it costs 2k. I said him I guess its free for vehicles under the warranty period. To which he said, I gotta check it, please give me your VIN no. & after that he is saying its not free.[confused]
Also, it seems the spacer stock has been finished & new stock has to be arrived. [anger]

Hey! For the vehicles under warranty its free!
They did not charge even a single rupee for my GC upgrade. I dint even know about this, they themselves called me and asked if they could do it for free[:)]

No difference in ride quality. But yes, while driving you could make the slight difference in height. Tall people would enjoy this is what I feel. I thoroughly enjoyed my 100 km highway drive after the upgrade.

No difference in handling as well. Everything is same and perfect as before.

Hi Vinodh,

Being a Volkswagen owner I would be biased here [:D] So Comparison part I wont take up as that is more of a personal choice. However, I think i20 is bit more heavier on your pocket compared to Polo.

Yes, Volkswagen comes with a baggage of High maintenance cost but Personal opinion after driving it for 15+k km I dontmind the extra amount that we spend for the quality ride and comfort Polo has given me.

But yes, if maintenance cost is a factor then do have a second look as it is higher compared to other brands like Hyundai.

Even mine is base model, and I have got my music system installed from outside vendor. But please be careful as there are chances of Warranty getting void if the guy is not an expert in handling VW vehicles. I have had no problem till date with that.

I got both Music system (touch screen with reverse cam) and remote locking done from outside. Its been almost an year now not faced any issues.

End of the day, Choice is yours. Drive both the cars, get to know more about each of them and go with what your heart says and not what others say [:)] Atleast that is what I did.

Yeah it is free. The guy had called back again on that day & said its free. But there isn't stock there. He said that he will call upon arrival of the stock!
