Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 6 Years and 81,000+ Kms

Never came below 11.5kmpL or so. On highways always around 12-13 kmpL.
I feel Scorpio needs a 'running in' period of say 50,000 kms to settle down. Especially after the 'ABS episode', the vehicle has been at its best with, not even a minor rattle whatsoever.
agreed,
the run in for modern vehicles is 25k kms or more.

The above is with A/C or without? XUV500 is getting more than this with the same Engine. Hence, expecting more in Scorpio. Your vehicle is it 4x4 or 4x2? The above 'running in' period is very high.[lol]

AC is on always and the windows up all the time = clean interiors + less fatigue + better noise insulation + good music = more relaxed driving and traveling experience.
While cruising, I don't get to hear the M-hawk at all. The roar is audible only between 85-95 kmpH speed and beyond that it's only that addictive slight whistle !

XUV500 is getting more than this with the same Engine. Hence, expecting more in Scorpio.
Though engine is same but are in a different state of tune. Though totally different beasts in all aspects, the NG Scorpio should return a better FE, may be at par with XUV or even better.[thumbsup]

Your vehicle is it 4x4 or 4x2?
4x2.

The above 'running in' period is very high.
Did not mean the “engine run in period” but the overall integrity of the vehicle. Over all, the vehicle feels “tight” and those rattles don’t show up that often and less visits to A.S.S.

Time for some real update !
Beast is ready to roar again.[:)]

DSC_3456.jpg

Drove back home from the airport. No apparent issues except for some foul smell when AC is on. A dead rat in the AC blower is the suspect as of now.

The Scorp has been sent to the ASC for the big 80k km service which should include the replacement of all major fluids : transmission, engine and clutch and also various filters.

Got a call from SA saying that one of the rear wheel brake liner has been broken and there is a slight leak from a pipe to/from the radiator which too needs to be addressed. Also told him to check all the suspension bushes and shocks for any abnormalities as well. For the foul smell from AC, the dash needs to be opened to check the AC components which is time consuming. Anyways I am told that the vehicle should be ready by 6.00 pm today.

Will update on this major service once the vehicle comes back home.

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 6 Years and 81,000+ Kms

Will update on this major service once the vehicle comes back home.
ODO : 82025 km [ at the time of 80k km service]
Current ODO: 82450 km

Update on the major service done:

As posted above, replaced all major fluids and filter cartridges. Also I see a kit nylon mesh filter support @ Rs.351.
  • Other than the regular service [80k km], the following were replaced.
  • Assay hose radiator outlet : Rs. 480
  • Kit lined shoe crown assay : Rs. 2725
  • Total for Parts : Rs. 7809
Labour:
  • Evaporator R and R : Rs. 2730 [don’t know what it is and forgot to ask them too]
  • 80k km service labour : Rs. 3342
Total for labour : Rs. 6869
Vat + Tax : Rs. 1950
Total damage : Rs. 16,660

No more foul smell as they have cleaned the entire area after opening the dash.
Few things/issues that ‘showed up’ after the service.
  • Opening up the dash and re-fitting meant an awkwardly placed/refitted HU [ICE] which required a bit of input [common sense] from my side.
  • The rear camera monitor wasn’t working which needed another inspection and correction.
  • Both the ORVMs got paralysed = couldn’t electrically control from inside. The panel below steering wheel had to be opened again only to see those cables to ORVMs cut. Culprit looks like a hungry rat, but those were working fine before I sent the vehicle for the service.
  • Did a test drive and was annoyed with an irritating vibration noise somewhere from behind/under the steering wheel. Definitely nothing to do with engine and other mechanicals. That panel was opened again and a couple of hanging tubes/pipes were held tightly.

Am I satisfied with the service ? Yes. Have already done Palakkad- Munnar –Ooty on all sorts of roads. No issues at all and drives absolutely fine with super silent cabin. But then “Scorp” wasn’t behaving any differently prior to the service. Will update as I munch more miles.[:)]

Few things/issues that ‘showed up’ after the service. Again, Am I satisfied with the service ? Yes. Interesting!!
How are the 'showed up' items? Still exists? How you keep your vehicle when travelling outside? Battery disconnected or someone to start the vehicle?

Sorry for the late response.
Regarding my feedback on the service, blame it on the perfectionist in me. Those small issues were rectified in half an hour or so to perfection.

No. Covered more than 1000km or so and the cabin is super-silent and everything works the way they should. [thumbsup]
This is more important for me. The SA always insists that "I" take an extensive TD after every service and following hat every single concern of mine is addressed to my satisfaction.

How you keep your vehicle when travelling outside? Battery disconnected or someone to start the vehicle?
The engine is fired everyday with some occasional outings.

Update:
ODO : 84,000 km

Covered a significant mileage since the 80k km service. Did Palakkad- Munnar-Ooty-Mysore-Munnar-Palakkad = almost all sort of roads.
  • No issues except for a fused fog lamp bulb which was replaced, costing Rs.600. Checked FE only once, returning a [ lower than usual ] figure of 11.2 kmpL with 100% AC.
“Scorp” will have another major outing in a week or so. This time Palakkad – Hyderabad, a few days of in and around the city and then back.

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 6 Years and 81,000+ Kms

ODO : close to 88,000km

Major road trips done after the service @ 82,xxx km.
T6080x4028-00020.jpg
  • Palakkad- Munnar-Palakkad- Ooty-Mysore-Munnar-Palakkad
  • Palakkad-Hyderabad-Munnar- Palakkad
Issues faced: None.
FE: around 11.4 kmpL [checked only once]during the Hyderabad trip covering around 3000km with speeds mostly @ 120kmph most part of the day with High AC always at 2nd position.

Should get the routine wheel alignment + rotation [if need be] done. Not in any sort of hurry as the 'Scorp' won't have any serious outing for another 3 months or so in my absence.[:)]

I would have, had I taken any photographs to post which justify the purpose of a travelogue. I didn’t even take out my camera due to the nature of the trip. Sorry. If anyone needs any information on the route/road conditions, I shall update on the respective threads.

The vehicle is holding up well with no niggles / rattles.
BTW, why not a short T-Fort –Scorp drive+meet during rains this time around ?[:)]

P.S: I don’t want to start a new thread in the Travelogue section just for the sake of showcasing one’s photographic skills or lack of it ! I am sure we do have enough of them up and running already.

Nice Idea. One T-Fort available during Monson.

Mostly occupied with family assignments during vacations. We tried Ooty and Mysore during our previous vacation.

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 6 Years and 88,000+ Kms

Update : 90,000 km Service + Pre-monsoon inspection
Current ODO : 88022 km

The vehicle was picked up from home by a personal @ Mahindra A.S.S/ Trissur which is around 50 km away from home.

  • Issue reported: Some humming noise from under the hood while cruising.
  • The culprit detected : a faulty wheel bearing [front RHS]
  • All the fluids topped up
  • A general check up was carried out which includes the condition of suspension components. Found everything in shape. Some basic tightening of bolts/components to make sure the vehicle continues to feel ‘tight’ with no sign of rattles at all.

The cost of 90,000 km service :
Part : INR 1740
Labour : INR 674
Total : INR 2414

Got an e-mail from the SM with the service report/details today afternoon. As I was reading his e-mail, received a call from my parents back home saying that the ‘Scorp’ has just been dropped back home after the service. [thumbsup]

Will be back in India next week for a longer vacation. Can’t wait for some monsoon drives to some of my favourite destinations in Kerala in rains.[:)]

'Scorp', 6 years old ?!! Can't believe.[:)]

Will be flying back home in a couple days. The ‘Scorp’ will have some serious outings during rains this time around.

It was in 2009 in the month of July that ‘Scorp’ joined our family. Can’t believe that the beast is 6 years old. Today the “Scorp” looks about the same and drives even better.

This picture taken @ Mysore should be as old as the 'Scorp' itself.
