As Doctors, they would have saved so many lives and cured so many people. It is a National Loss. RIP.

Difficult for me to guess the vehicle (Indica ? Getz ??). One report put the time of accident as around 3 AM. Recently I've traveled in this road from 2 AM to 4 AM and the roads were nearly free. Buses and Trucks WERE FOLLOWING LANE discipline seriously. Chances of driver having a shut eye is more. From the damage to the vehicle (head lights are ON), I guess their running speed was within 80 kph. I feel, if occupants were wearing seat-belts, at least the rear seat passengers could have survived. Do wear seat-belts.

Blame is NOT on MSIL ALONE. Ciaz Sedan with 1.4 Lit Petrol Engine outsells by a huge margin "a solidly built Linea with a 1.4 Lit Petrol Engine". MSIL sells what Public desires (pun intended). The heavier Brezza though is a welcome change from MSIL.

Buyers are to be blamed
for giving "max priority to re-sale value [frustration] , FE and maintenance" than their own safety. Drivers are to be blamed for NOT driving within their limits and also the limits of these small cars. Passengers are ALSO to be blamed for NOT wearing seat-belts and for not calming down an erratic driver. If MSIL starts selling safer cars, prices will go up and MSIL risks loosing market share. I stopped blaming MSIL in this regard. Turning point ? Post # 4327 in this thread.
Looks more like an Accent.

A very unfortunate incident. The cause of the fire was being investigated, and now the police have booked Kalyani Motors under section 304(A) (causing death by negligence) under the Indian Penal Code.

Report from 3rd Feb on Times of India:
A 30-year-old homemaker and her four-year-old son were burnt to death in their Maruti Ritz car that mysteriously caught fire in the basement of their apartment complex late Friday afternoon at Nallurahalli, near Whitefield, southeast Bengaluru.

Update on 7th Feb
from the report published in The News Minute:
The Whitefield Police have now booked Kalyani Motors - an authorised service centre for Maruti Suzuki, for the fatal car fire which killed a Bengaluru-based woman and her 4-year-old son on February 2.

On Tuesday, the police booked Kalyani Motors under section 304(A) (causing death by negligence) under the Indian Penal Code.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Whitefield, Sudam B Naik, police suspect that 30-year-old Neha and her son Param died due to electrical and mechanical faults in the car.

“The victim’s husband Madhur, has given a statement alleging that the clutch assembly and brake shoes were replaced when the Maruti Ritz VXI was given for service seven months ago. No modification was made to the car,” the ACP added.

Police say that the service supervisor and the service staff of Kalyani Motors and Maruti Suzuki will be questioned to determine whether faulty mechanics or electrical wiring led to the fire.

A very good article by cartorque and a eye opener/big reply to people who believe more on NCAP ratings of the car rather than looking for actual strength of the car. I for one believe in the actual accident pics of the car. Now I for one don't believe in NCAP ratings due to two important aspect, one is we get lighter, watered down unsafe versions in India which are not actually tested and lead to deaths here in India and other is NCAP tests only frontal impact and only at 60kmph which cannot simulate the real conditions. The Tata Tiago even though is not NCAP tested gives me a much safer feeling than what other cars can give.

Can we have such links for Maruti or even Honda City? No. Then I hope people should see the practical aspects rather than just blindly going by the NCAP crap.

I dont think so there will be such links for Maruti or Honda, but that doesn't mean they are unsafe cars.
Baleno has got crumple zones which keeps the passenger cabin protected as far as i know.
Maruti & Honda dont advertise cars in India on their NCAP ratings,so i think there are no blind sales involved considering only the NCAP.
I do believe NCAP shouldn't be the criteria to select cars, but every individual has got their own choices and criteria to select their dream car.
IMHO
No offences to any, just my view.

See, NCAP ratings are to be seen as a point of reference. The crash testing is done under controlled conditions. The brands often try to project these ratings (like 4 & 5 stars) as a confidence winning move and as USP to sell their products. Buyers should consult/refer to these ratings as a reference only. How a particular car may perform in the real world conditions / real world crash cannot be solely determined by the crash test ratings. For Example, Neither Nexon, nor Tigor or Tiago have been crash tested but that does not mean any of them can be seen as utterly unsafe because even if we don't have the professional crash worthiness ratings for them yet we do have 1st hand owner's experiences to judge their strength and safety in the real world crashes.

NCAP testings include side impact too. They show to what extent Cabin intrusions happen on front impacts. Results have the potential to help Manufacturers make safer cars; at least I think so. NCAP bought Indian cars from show rooms and tested them in the past. So, I'm for NCAP tests.

However, on Indian roads, possibility of cabin intrusion due to "blunt to mildly sharp" objects like rods / bars / logs / cow-horns etc is more. This is why "I always bat for thicker sheet metal" on the body panels. Final choice rests with the buyer (who normally favours FE & re-sale value more than "his limb or life").

Kudos to Tata for churning out safer cars.

Thanks to Ford's Endeavours build quality.

Read in Rushlane, New Ford Endeavour tumbles 400 feet into a valley – All 7 passengers survive.

As per Jitendra, who was sitting in front with the driver, a truck came in their lane from the opposite immediately after a blind turn. In order to avoid head-on collision the driver swerved left.

With the road being narrow, and no room on the side of the road, the Ford Endeavour broke the barricading wall and fell into the valley. They tumbled down for 400 feet, rolling multiple times on the way. Seeing this, the truck driver fled from the spot with his truck. Luckily, next few cars stopped and they got down to help.

To everyone’s surprise, all 7 passengers of the car survived. Jitendra, his wife, three kids, a friend and driver – all are safe. They were taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance, where they were treated for some minor injuries.

CCTV footage of a horrible crash is uploaded by the Tirupati traffic police. The video shows careless and irresponsible riding by the motorbike rider, breaking multiple traffic laws thus putting his life and others' lives in danger.

Screen-Shot-2018-02-25-at-9.45.05-AM.jpg

There are multiple things at play here -
1. helmet-less
2. the motorcyclist is riding on the wrong side of the road
3. crossing at wrong place
4. motorcyclist's vision is blocked by the tractor in the middle lane
5. car driver's vision is blocked by the tractor

What will be the future step according to law? Will the police book the car driver?
I am sure he will have to pay for others carelessness.
A Helmet would have saved the man from head injury,i think his head got banged on the bonnet as well as road. I sincerely hope he is hale and hearty and learnt his lesson the hard way.

Most of us have noticed a Bus "taking wider margin, while overtaking two wheelers", while we on cars maintain just enough margin. THIS is the reason why Buses/trucks take more margins ...

On the evening hours on the 24th of February, 2018, In a tragic accident, a recently married couple from Mumbai lost their lives while overtaking a truck in Chopdem. The couple were said to be overtaking the truck when they lost balance, falling on the road, and coming under the wheels of the truck.

Overtaking a heavy vehicle on such a road can be tricky mainly because of the narrowness of the road, and also because of the low power a scooter has to quickly execute the overtaking maneuver. Multiple factors could come together in this tragic crash.

It’s likely that at least one of the two deceased was wearing a crash helmet. However, the crash helmet had come off during the crash, suggesting that it wasn’t fastened properly.

Twice I've met with serious accidents while riding a Bike, with face landing on 'stone boulders' and both times my 'Full face branded Helmets' saved my Jaw.

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes."

That said, I hope everyone involved is found to be ok. Kudos to the various police departments for uploading such footage to raise awareness.
