Re: OMG! 3rd RX at Home - 1998 Yamaha RX135 4S

5-Speed Head ported and polished
I also recommend you try Matt Black Colour with Original Badges.I think it will look killer.
I remember reading FAQ RX questions thread at xBhp by Mr. Kartkik Datta. He said that 4-speed i.e. 4TL00 kits are used more for racing esp. drag racing.
This is what he mentioned in that thred:
7. I have a RX135 5-Speed, can i use a 4-speed bore (4TL00) in it & have similar performance?

Ans:Depending on the availability, yes. A 4-speed bore will give you more torque & excellent city ride with low end grunt. It will also return more FE. Replacing the cylinder kit should do the job & correct tuning. As an option carburettor assembly can also be used of a 4-speed.

Answering second part very specifically, a 4-speed bore & 5-speed bore can never have similar performance even if the BHP levels are the same. Both were designed with a different intent.

A 4-speed bore is rated at 12BHP at crank & the 5-Speed at 14BHP at crank. You will need to modify the 4-speed cylinder by porting the exhaust to bring it upto 14BHP. This is what is stage 1 porting in case of 4TL00 kits. The top-speeds will be the same as a 4TL10 kit, but a ported 4TL00 kit will get there faster. It is the inherent characteristic of the cylinder that makes it produce more starting torque. This is the reason 4TL00 kits are more preferred in Drag racing, where not only the top speed is important, but hitting that top speed within 400Mts is of more importance.
Did you read the last line ?

And about the colour, a dual tone finish would be perfect. Yes, matt black will look awesome. But if left plain, then I am sorry. It would be worser. If you give some stickering treatment above Matte Black, then it would look awesome and heads will turn you especially in daytime.

And for modifications, consider turning your RX into Cafe Racer, Import RX-King Close Ratio gearbox and high comp. ratio cylinder Head, TOP PRO/ART Pistons, Hero Karizma/Pulsar Alloys, Mono Shock suspension at rear, Rear disc, Maybe 17"/16" rim at back, Synthetic 2t oil, Iridium Plug, Fiber reeds, etc etc.

These will cost huge money and time and if done suggested mods of mine and Bharath, You will have a fantastic finish out and you will have the best modded RX in the world !

Keihin D-slide 28mm carb (or Pulsar 150 Carb) I understand the need, please ask him how does it help
Carburetor Upjetting After going for the above spec carb?
Engine Tuning How?
Tires - 18" Zapper C at the rear and R15 V1 17" front Why 18" on rear & 17" in front?
Can you please get the answers for questions in bold from your mechanic?

Did I ever mentioned TAI?
Moreover there are few members who are experts in RX are not very active in TAI, but they do extend their support by giving valuable suggestions offline.

Re: OMG! 3rd RX at Home - 1998 Yamaha RX135 4S

Sir,Come on ! You are again attacking me.Bigger carburetor will help in showing the full potential of the Overbored Engine. My bad I wrote Carburetor Upjetting.Engine Tuning - Perfect Idling,Powerband Tuning,Rich/Lea Air fuel mixture .etc.18 inch Rear Tyres is thicker than the OEM and will also improve the already-raw looks and 17 inch on front, which would work with the rear, hence providing better grip on sharp turns and wet roads,He also said Michelin M45 woould be the best for the RX 135.

So,Sir,eh... Did you like that Matt black Option I gave you as an Idea ?

Oh,I am sorry,I misunderstood that You mentioned from TAI

Thank you

You are again attacking me.
Definitely not man.
I would like to understand what your mechanic is trying to convey. If he couldn't satisfy with a proper answer / logic, it's not his expertise, just a common thumb rule.

Bigger carburetor will help in showing the full potential of the Overbored Engine.
We don't overbore to that extent that it require a bigger carb. OE carbs are designed to handle some additional volumes as well. Bigger carb is required when we play with the port layout to feed more volume of Air-Fuel mixture.

18 inch Rear Tyres is thicker than the OEM and will also improve the already-raw looks and 17 inch on front, which would work with the rear, hence providing better grip on sharp turns and wet roads
Couldn't get the logic of 17" Front still. And for the rear, OE spec itself is 18". Fatter tyre is justified for better grip and handling (compromising the FE part, but who is very much worried about FE in RX) but how come the rim diameter define it? People normally go for 17" since there are not much (better) choice available in 18"

Did you like that Matt black Option I gave you as an Idea ?
Painting scheme is not finalized yet. What I have right now in mind is
Body: Not decided yet (may be Bright red)
Frame: Glossy black
Crankcase & Head: Matte black
Bore: unpainted (after sand blasting)

Re: OMG! 3rd RX at Home - 1998 Yamaha RX135 4S

After some brainstorming, debate and confusion, finally decided something.

This time a Cafe Racer [evil]

Yes, a cafe racer this time. Since I already have a couple of RX for daily use (apart from Car which I take to office atleast a couple of days in a week and some weekend trips and long drives) I don't need a commuter bike again. Drag spec is something I'm not very fond of (I'm a sedate driver) and also a strict no-no from Home minister for such a machine.

Finally I wanted something different to experience, ended up with the idea of Cafe racer.

This segment is something very new to me, not even driven once. So this experiment is going to be another learning experience.

PS: Project will be executed during Christmas holidays as I'm bundled with lot of commitments till then, so I'm left with significant time for part collection and more time to think about what to do and understand what not to do

PPS: I'm not sure if this is the first Cafe Racer project in TAI.

I won't be modifying the frame. This gives me flexibility of bringing it stock anyday.

Cafe Racer with stock engine ?
2 points you missed from my posts
1) I'm a sedate driver. So stock engine is more than sufficient for me.
2) I mentioned I'm not touching the engine this time. When the need arises, I won't mind tweaking it.

Please touch the engine !
The bike has already done 78k kms.
So, you are going to drive the bike with this engine condition ???
Please go for a Engine rebuild and think of tweaking it[:)]

78k isn't covered with stock engine. I'm not sure of it is running in 1st or 2nd OS. There is pretty much juice left on it.

Future upgrades.
