Maruti to develop new 800cc vehicle in India

Maruti Suzuki is aggressively working on an all-new car, as Maruti's engineers embark on an independent full-model change capability, something not attempted before, managing executive officer (engineering) IV Rao said.

Rao, who declined to speak about the pricing of the new vehicle, said the idea was to develop a car that would co-exist with the Alto, the country's largest-selling car with monthly volumes averaging over 30,000 units. He shot down suggestions that the new car would be a renewed version, or fresh attempt, to revive the M800 model that has already made its way out of 13 top metros (due to stricter emission norms) and will be phased out gradually from the rest of the country in the coming years.

"This will be an all-new car, though based on an existing platform. The idea is to do it in-house at Maruti, with minimal support from our Japanese parent, Suzuki," Rao said. Maruti engineers have done facelifts on some of the existing models previously while also assisting Suzuki during the development of some global models such as the Swift and the A-Star.

The car will be meant primarily for the Indian market, he said, adding that the idea behind the model was to "constantly introduce new models while also developing the company's R&D capability to develop, design and engineer a model on its own."

Also, the company wants to fill the gap created by the phase-out of the M800. "It will be no less than a milestone for us," Rao said.

"It may co-exist with the Alto and we want to have a two-model strategy at the entry-end of the market, like we have on the upper segments where we have a multi-model approach with cars like Ritz, Swift and WagonR pitched around the same price bracket," sources said.

"This will be an all-new car, though based on an existing platform. The idea is to do it in-house at Maruti, with minimal support from our Japanese parent, Suzuki," I V Rao, managing executive officer, said.

Cervo isn't coming to India reason: it would take the sales figures of largest selling Alto

But i think now the two cars which was showcased in auto expo would replace alto and Wagon R

Maruti to launch new hatchback around Diwali

Maruti to launch new hatchback around Diwali to take on Hyundai Eon, Tata Nano

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) is all set to launch its new hatchback around Diwali in an attempt to regain its market share, which has been falling steadily over the years.

"The work on the car is going on and the company is planning to launch it before Diwali. The car will be priced below Alto and above that of the Maruti 800. This will be a big booster for the company. At present, the company is working on the pricing of the diesel variant," a senior official from MSIL told Mail Today on the condition of anonymity. However, the company refused to comment on the upcoming car officially and said they do not comment on their future models.

The parent Suzuki Motor Company already markets a mini-compact car in Japan with an engine capacity of less than 800 cc. This is the company's attempt to revive their bread-and-butter model, which once drove their volumes. According to sources, the company will launch a new entry-level hatchback before phasing out M800 as competition is mounting from Hyundai's Eon and with a diesel variant of the Nano being also on the anvil.

Maruti Suzuki, which earlier use to account for over 50 per cent sales in the passenger car market, has lost its share to rivals such as Hyundai, which markets the hot-selling i10 and 120 models, and diesel variants of GM's Beat. The market share of Maruti is now down to around 40 per cent as the strike at the Manesar plant has also taken its toll.

The sales of its mini-segment cars, including M800, AStar, Alto and WagonR, fell by 26.4 per cent to 30,720 units in April this year against 41,744 units in April 2011.

Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reported a mere 3.6 per cent increase in total vehicle sales in the domestic market to 90,255 units during April 2012. The company's passenger car sales, which exclude vans and utility vehicles, in the domestic market declined by 1.3 per cent to 72,939 units last month from 73,905 units in the same month of 2011, it added.

Sales of the DZiRE model last month rose by 31.5 per cent to 15,510 units, from 11,797 units in April last year. While its compact segment (Estilo, Swift and Ritz) saw a 43 per cent jump in sales to 26,072 units in April.

The company is also facing continuous slide in sales of its mid- sized sedan SX4' s which by 69.8 per cent to a meager 634 units from 2,102 units sold in April 2011. Luxury sedan Kizashi also witnessed 91.4 per cent fall in sales at 3 units as against 35 units in the same month last year.

Re: Maruti to launch new hatchback around Diwali

so just read this :

cover.jpg

Suzuki is planning to replace the long
lasting master kid "Maruti 800" with the Japanese Suzuki Cervo which is
the latest small car recently launched in Japan, the Cervo is a compact
five door mini, that looks to put the other kids on the block into the
shade. This sleek cute car offers 54bhp 660cc engine that boasts to
offer peppy performance with great fuel economy.

BUT THIS INFO WAS DATED YEAR 2007 [confused][confused]

JUST READ THIS IN WIKIPEDIA[:D]

Maruti Suzuki, the Indian subsidiary of Suzuki is planning to launch a reduced version of Cervo in Indian market as a competition to Tata Nano.[14] Suzuki expects to regain the market prominence in the small car segment it had enjoyed during the era of Maruti 800. Maruti Cervo is priced between Rs 150,000 - Rs 200,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), which would be markedly higher than the price of a Tata Nano. The Cervo was expected to be rolled out within 2010.[15]

Re: Maruti 800 Replacement Coming – Is it Cervo?

according to the spy pics which the Autocar India posted, I think MS is launching a all new vehicle and its not the Cervo but I would say Cervo should replace the A-Star in India.
