Catalytic converter may get damaged if the car is submerged in water. Since the converter operates at high temperature, sudden decrease in temperatures which may occur due to the car entering the cold water may lead to contraction and thereby increasing the possibility of cracks. Though it can happen only when the water level is dangerously high.

" however be cautious when you go into these muddy waters , because there is every potential that the catalytic converter be damaged. "
im also bit curious about this as i heard only thing catalytic converter be damaged is by using leaded petrol - according to EURO standards EURO 3 + is recommended for catalytic converter fitted vehicles. where what happens is the led will distry to platinum layer on the catalytic converter which will be useless after that.
