@dharmesh: The online price for the 3D mats seems little expensive. Online prices are usually less than store prices, since there are no overhead cost. Little puzzled as to why it is higher? Is it just the brand name?
Yes these are very well known brand for providing 3D mats.

Re: My, Yet To Be Named, XUV5OO - Buying and Ownership Experience

@HORTON: Thanx for the reference. I will call up Autoshop and Evo. One of the local dealer quoted 7K for the 3d mats, of brand '3D'? He claims these are the original 3D mats, and the rest are copying from 3D. I care less for the brand but quality, so let me look at it.
I had checked out the "3D" mats at hottracks, Victoria road. Hottracks claim to be the official distributor of these mats and they quoted ~7k. As far as I can tell, what I got and also what I saw at Evo are exactly the same. How others can offer so much better prices than the distributor is beyond me.

Another question - Is side step a must? The dealer or the vendors, dont have a good side step. It looks lousy. Depending on how comfortable is mom in boarding / alighting the XUV, I will decide if I need to go. I personally think XUV looks better without side step.
I'm planning to install side steps too, but the purpose is to get the bikers and autos a little farther away from scratching the body work at the perennial traffic jams in Bangalore. I have zeroed in on Ctrack R300 or R400. I have seen R300 on a couple of XUVs and they looked the best to me.

Re: My, Yet To Be Named, XUV5OO - Buying and Ownership Experience

The car came home last evening! There was an instant liking and appreciation by the family, who had accompanied me to welcome the car home.

I tried to squeeze out the best number available during registration. The Sales person (Sameer) and dealer rep coordinated this for me from RTO, whilst I stayed at home. Finally, I had to refer my contacts in RTO to get the number within 'allotted numbers'. The series was starting 6380; I asked for 6398 and got it! My first new vehicle, Yamaha my RX100, bears the number 9638. Both the numbers are made up of same 4 digits. My RX100 bought me lot of luck, hence I have still retained my bike even after 18 years. Hopefully this car too will bring me good luck. Most importantly, safe driving.

The Sales person and India garage were helpful though in getting the number plate, and other formalities done by 4PM. The car was ready when I arrived at the showroom along with wiffy, kiddos, and my mother. The dealer thoroughly explained all the documents, PDI, and other formalities. Then, handing over the keys/flowers/chocolate ceremony; photo with family. I forgot to take the gift to Sameer (bought a Parker pen, packed, but left it at home). Before I could sign off with sales person, the dealer had printed one of the family photo with the car, framed it and handed over to us! That was a pleasant surprise; I appreciate both the gesture and the speed.

The dealer had given free 10Ltr diesel voucher; the petrol bunk was right outside India Garage. Though its a small station, it is known for its purity and right measure (compared to others, of course). I filled the tank; it took ~67Ltrs to fill. I think the tank capacity is 70 so it was filled with probably few liters. Btw, the odometer was showing 32 KM (on the day of my inspection it was showing 30KM), which was reset. I missed taking picture at 0/ZERO but here is a picture at 2KM.

Went to Vahana Ganapati (Vehicle Ganapati), on Kasturba Road. After ~15 minutes wait, performed pooja (temple opens sharp 6PM). Interestingly, here is a picture where another XUV of the same color (from India Garage) came for pooja. There was a Xylo and a Fortuner in the queue. Lots of two wheelers (mostly Bajaj Pulsar, some Honda Activa, and a 500CC Bullet)!

It was peak hour bumper to bumper traffic, so I had to be extra careful riding back home (~10KM). It wasn't the first time I was driving a SUV, but you know the butterflies in the tummy [roll] Through out, I did not get a chance to go beyond 4th gear. I should take the car out this weekend for a fun drive.

Another small incident took place when I tried to park the vehicle in my basement. It scrapped at some place, very lightly. I looked down the chassis, but nothing noticeable. I shall double check when I go to service station. I had built the slope well for my Scorpio. Apparently, the wheel base (distance between front wheel and rear wheel center point) is longer than Scorpio? Going by measurement, XUV is 2700mm Vs. Scorpio 2680mm? My Scorpio was 2005 model (SLX) hence not sure what is the exact measurement. But it was quite evident that this car is broad and long, though little short in height.

I will make a trip to India Garage service station this Saturday to install reverse camera, probably the LED scuff plates; will go with some local vendor for the 3D mats.

Another question - should I go for Teflon coating for the body? May not be under-chassis coating 'coz my drive is mostly in/around Bangalore.

Re: My, Yet To Be Named, XUV5OO - Buying and Ownership Experience

Congrats manuman. I have taken my scorpio from the same dealer and for the same Rep.
IG are very good at sales.
You should have actually visited the stock yard (which IG allow) and pick the vechile you wanted from the lot of about 100+ waiting there. Yard is not so far away. just on the edge of bang, on tumkur rd.
When it comes to first service that is when you start to see the little difference.
With SC moving out of reach from Bang to outskirts mainly for me, its kind off come on M&M
Just a question out of curiosity, you said family size is between 4 and 8. with trips most of the time so why XUV?. plz remember there is absolutly no lugage space. Get the over head lugage carier fixed ASAP.
wont W8 come with built in camera nd GPS? micro Reverse Camera, it would cost a max of 3k outside.

NIce pictures buddy, your XUV is looking nice in that shade.

And for the rear view camera i guess dealer is the best choice.

W8 does not come with rear camera only with sensors. But yes you get the GPS.
