Re: My, Yet To Be Named, XUV5OO - Buying and Ownership Experience
The car came home last evening! There was an instant liking and appreciation by the family, who had accompanied me to welcome the car home.
I tried to squeeze out the best number available during registration. The Sales person (Sameer) and dealer rep coordinated this for me from RTO, whilst I stayed at home. Finally, I had to refer my contacts in RTO to get the number within 'allotted numbers'. The series was starting 6380; I asked for 6398 and got it! My first new vehicle, Yamaha my RX100, bears the number 9638. Both the numbers are made up of same 4 digits. My RX100 bought me lot of luck, hence I have still retained my bike even after 18 years. Hopefully this car too will bring me good luck. Most importantly, safe driving.
The Sales person and India garage were helpful though in getting the number plate, and other formalities done by 4PM. The car was ready when I arrived at the showroom along with wiffy, kiddos, and my mother. The dealer thoroughly explained all the documents, PDI, and other formalities. Then, handing over the keys/flowers/chocolate ceremony; photo with family. I forgot to take the gift to Sameer (bought a Parker pen, packed, but left it at home). Before I could sign off with sales person, the dealer had printed one of the family photo with the car, framed it and handed over to us! That was a pleasant surprise; I appreciate both the gesture and the speed.
The dealer had given free 10Ltr diesel voucher; the petrol bunk was right outside India Garage. Though its a small station, it is known for its purity and right measure (compared to others, of course). I filled the tank; it took ~67Ltrs to fill. I think the tank capacity is 70 so it was filled with probably few liters. Btw, the odometer was showing 32 KM (on the day of my inspection it was showing 30KM), which was reset. I missed taking picture at 0/ZERO but here is a picture at 2KM.
Went to Vahana Ganapati (Vehicle Ganapati), on Kasturba Road. After ~15 minutes wait, performed pooja (temple opens sharp 6PM). Interestingly, here is a picture where another XUV of the same color (from India Garage) came for pooja. There was a Xylo and a Fortuner in the queue. Lots of two wheelers (mostly Bajaj Pulsar, some Honda Activa, and a 500CC Bullet)!
It was peak hour bumper to bumper traffic, so I had to be extra careful riding back home (~10KM). It wasn't the first time I was driving a SUV, but you know the butterflies in the tummy
Through out, I did not get a chance to go beyond 4th gear. I should take the car out this weekend for a fun drive.
Another small incident took place when I tried to park the vehicle in my basement. It scrapped at some place, very lightly. I looked down the chassis, but nothing noticeable. I shall double check when I go to service station. I had built the slope well for my Scorpio. Apparently, the wheel base (distance between front wheel and rear wheel center point) is longer than Scorpio? Going by measurement, XUV is 2700mm Vs. Scorpio 2680mm? My Scorpio was 2005 model (SLX) hence not sure what is the exact measurement. But it was quite evident that this car is broad and long, though little short in height.
I will make a trip to India Garage service station this Saturday to install reverse camera, probably the LED scuff plates; will go with some local vendor for the 3D mats.
Another question -
should I go for Teflon coating for the body? May not be under-chassis coating 'coz my drive is mostly in/around Bangalore.
