I just completed Mumbai - Pune - Mumbai on my Tata Nano 2012
Total kms covered : 330 kms
Total litres of petrol consumed : 13 l
F.E - 25.38 KM / L

Speed on an average was abt 80 - 90 kmph on e- way.
25.38 is an amazing fuel efficiency SilverlxNano. [:)] That too @ 80-90 Kmph. I was initially thinking that anything above 80 would put Nano engine on stress, and FE will reduce drastically, but I guess I was wrong!

@jayadev : Tata claim the ideal speed should be 50 -70 kmph.
@dharmesh : two people with some luggage.

During my car's 1st service, the service centre recommended a fuel additive, which I used couple of times. Do you guys think fuel additives make a lot of difference to the performance or FE of the car?

Both the time it got dried unintentionally.I was determined to know the exact FE so I did carry 5 litres of fuel in the bottle.
First time I was happy to see it did 200 km but I was doubtful of reserve fuel . So I tried again and it did exact 200 and went off. Which proved the repeatability too.
I do realize its not good but it seems mjd cuts off the fuel electronically beyond certain limit to avoid air bubbles. So did the car started at first attempt after refuelling 3 litres
while it assured me there is no other better way to confirm ultra accurate method to know the FE of your beloved car.
Full tank short distance method behaves wierd as moment you move the car the fuel drains again to some where.
Tankfull to tank full method is too much time consuming and expensive where you are bound to get errors in idling time.
my brother tried similar with avenger and it did 45km for a litre petrol under soft riding and 38km a litre for normal riding.
Buddy, seriously avoid letting your car go dry. The fuel lines if dry out will suck air in all probability which is definitely not good for your engine.

@silver,I would recomend follow the bible. Do not go for any additive if its not mentioned on the manual.
Additive can prove corrosive to certain components if not tested and approved by manufaturer.
hope you get the point.

The additive which was given to me was the one recommended by TATA themselves. I do not recollect the name. Will check and confirm.
Should I still have not used it? [confused]

My personal experience with my d4d altis is that I get 16+ in Bangalore city with AC on almost all the time. Haven't really had the chance to test it on the highway, bcos I almost always end up borrowing someone's Innova whenever I leave town. However, I plan to go on a long drive end of this month and I presume it would give close to 20-21 on the highway. Shall keep you all posted.

^^Buddy Altis is still better than Innova and any other UV until you have to go on a hilly road, for highway drives,it scores very well and if driven decently,it easily delivers 22-23 kpl.

Just got back from a long trip ( 800kms) and am pleased to say that my diesel corolla altis has given me a mileage of around 21-22 on the highway. I am guilty of accepting the fact that I drove a considerable distance ( around 350kms) at speeds of 140 plus ( 3000-3300 rpm)which must have gulped a lot. But, I was tempted by the highway and the superb handling of the car. Maybe if I was more sedate( 110 kmph at around 2000rpm), I might have got more to the litre. All said and and done , I am pleased on two counts: mileage and superb handling at high speeds. This is one hell of a car which is a good handler, good snob value and light on the pocket as well.

That awesome to know that you have got wonderful FE. Yes, I accept the tempting you got in highways now a days. I myself do that.

BTW, small doubt, the RPM changes depending upon the power of the car? Why am asking this is, you have mentioned 110 in 2000 RPM. But in my sparky, if i touch 100 the RPM will be around 3000.
