Maruti_Suzuki_Service_Centre.jpg

Maruti Suzuki has established its 5,000th service touchpoint in Gurugram, India, marking a significant milestone. The brand's goal to provide an easy car ownership experience is demonstrated in its extended network, which now covers 2,500 cities across the country. Maruti Suzuki opened its first service outlet in 1983 and added 1,000 centres by 1997. It gradually expanded the network with 2000, 3000, and 4,000 touchpoints over 7, 8, and 9 years, respectively. Notably, the company added the last 3,000 service centers in three years. In the fiscal year 2023–24, the carmaker opened 400 service stations, the majority of which are located in non-urban areas. This emphasises the company's goal of improving accessibility for customers in remote regions. With its extensive network, Maruti Suzuki claims that it repaired 25 million vehicles in the last fiscal year.

Commemorating the milestone, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, of Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, 'At Maruti Suzuki, we have always believed in a ‘Customer First’ approach, and it has been our endeavor to provide our valued customers with convenience and delightful car ownership experience.'

He added 'One of the ways to achieve this is to reach as close as possible to our customers so that they have assurance of finding a Maruti Suzuki service touchpoint nearby, whether they are navigating city streets or venturing into remote areas.'

To improve the customer experience and cater to the needs of the modern audience, the company has also adopted services like digital owner's manuals, digitalized job card openings, and multilingual voice BOTs.

Maruti cars, SUVs now get 3-year/1 lakh km warranty as standard

Maruti Suzuki has enhanced its warranty on all 17 cars and SUVs it sells in India, effective for vehicles delivered from July 9 onwards. From the Alto K10 to the Invicto, every Maruti car will now come with a 3-year/1 lakh kilometre warranty as standard. This is a significant improvement over the previously offered coverage of 2 years/40,000km, and it also makes Maruti’s standard warranty equal to what Toyota offers.
  1. Maruti introduces 6-year/1.6 lakh km extended warranty
  2. 4-year/1.2 lakh km, 5-year/1.4 lakh km extended warranty packs improved
Besides the longer standard warranty, Maruti has introduced the Solitaire warranty package, which covers the car or SUV for 6 years or 1.6 lakh km, whichever is earlier. There are also Platinum (4-year/1.2 lakh km) and Royal Platinum (5-year/1.4 lakh km) packages available. The company said it has also expanded the extended warranty coverage of 11 high-value parts without confirming what these components are.

In comparison, Tata Motors offers a 3-year/1 lakh km standard warranty, and it has packages that extend up to 5 years. Hyundai, too, has a 3-year/1 lakh km warranty as standard, with unlimited kilometres on models priced higher than the Venue. The Korean company also offers extended warranty packages up to 7 years.

Will never reduce our focus on buyers who cannot afford expensive cars: Maruti Suzuki Chairman

FireShot Capture 624 - Will never reduce our focus on buyers who cannot afford expensive car_ ...png

At a time when the small car segment continues to shrink in the domestic passenger vehicle industry, Maruti Suzuki India Limited Chairman RC Bhargava reaffirmed that it will not disregard the needs of budget-conscious buyers who cannot afford affordable vehicles.

"We have believed that the company will benefit most if, while enhancing its competitiveness, the economic and social needs of society are also met to the maximum extent possible," Bhargava told shareholders in the company's annual report.
He went on to add, "Thus, our continued efforts to manufacture low-cost small cars have been in recognition of the economic condition of a large majority of citizens and their aspiration to own a comfortable and safe means of transport."

While the passenger vehicle market sustained growth momentum in Q1 FY25 the small car sales continue to be on a downswing. During April-June, Maruti Suzuki sold 2,22,193 units of passenger cars, witnessing a 12.8 percent year-on-year decline against 2,54,973 units in the same period last year.

Bhargava stated that MSIL was the first company to start the production of CNG cars because they were more economical than petrol cars as well as environmentally cleaner

“They suited users with limited incomes and also met environmental objectives. With the government giving high priority to building infrastructure for CNG distribution, the sale of CNG cars has been rising and we expect to sell about 600,000 such cars this year.

Bhargava also claimed that Maruti is the first company to extend its sales and service network to rural areas and small towns. "The intention was that people in these areas of the country should get facilities similar to what was available to those dwelling in large cities. Now about 46% of our sales come from rural areas.," he noted.

Going green and remaining powertrain-agnostic

Meanwhile, the MSIL chairman stated that it is awaiting a government policy framework to promote all green technologies, including strong hybrids, to replace petrol and diesel vehicles and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

"It is also clear that pure petrol and diesel cars are the worst in terms of carbon and greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption. Therefore, while electric car use increases, customers should be encouraged to buy cars using strong hybrid technology, or CNG, or ethanol and biogas,” added Bhargava.

In his view, pure petrol and diesel car use should be minimised. “He also claimed that hybrid cars improve fuel efficiency by about 35-45 percent and help reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions by 25 to 35 percent. He also reckoned that while CNG cars are not as clean as hybrids, but are better than petrol or diesel cars and also do not use oil (fossil fuel).

Maruti Suzuki had earlier indicated that it is planning to bring in the strong-hybrid technology across multiple models, including upcoming models in the next six to seven years. In addition to ICE and CNG, the carmaker is working on different technologies like EVs, flex-fuel, bio-gas, and hybrids.

“It is also clear that pure petrol and diesel cars are the worst in terms of carbon and greenhouse gas emission and consumption of fuel. Therefore, while electric car use increases, customers should be encouraged to buy cars using strong hybrid technology, or CNG or ethanol and biogas, opined Bhargava.

He also reiterated that the company will be introducing electric cars in the next few months. However, he maintained “The ability to rapidly expand the acceptance of such cars would depend on the pace of infrastructure development and reduction of the cost of electric cars. This has to largely come from the localisation of production and better technology.

He also opined that India has a very large potential for developing biogas from agricultural, animal and human waste.

“Biogas is completely renewable, has no import content and is overall, carbon negative. Production of biogas would also lead to important benefits to the environment. For example, the burning of paddy stubble could be substantially reduced, and cleanliness levels increased,” noted Bhargava.

MSIL has started work on a trial basis to produce biogas and is looking forward to government policies that would result in the rapid development of this fuel. “We are also working on modifying car engines to use petrol blended with 20 per cent ethanol. Technology exists to enable cars to use higher amounts of ethanol," explained Bhargava.

Maruti Suzuki to open Nexa Studios for tier 2 and 3 cities

FireShot Capture 653 - Maruti Suzuki To Open Nexa Studios For Tier 2 And 3 Cities - news.abpli...png

Expanding their footprint across India, Nexa, which houses Maruti Suzuki cars like the Grand Vitara and the Baleno will now tap into Tier 2 and 3 cities where previously there was no presence. This new type of showroom would be called Nexa Studio as explained by senior executive officer for marketing and sales Partho Banerjee in a media interaction.

He said the Nexa Studio would be smaller than a Nexa showroom but have service and spare parts areas in them while having a display for two cars. However, all of the Nexa cars would be offered for sale including the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Baleno, Jimny, Ignis etc. Also the buying experience would be the same as with a standard Nexa outlet too.

With around 37 percent of Nexa sales coming from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, the plan is to open around 100 more NEXA outlets by the end of the financial year. Typically earlier, to visit a Nexa showroom one had to travel 100km away roughly and with healthy sales coming from these cities, these Nexa Studio's will tap into that.

However, the Nexa studio will have a delivery zone and there will not be any differentiation whether you buy and take the delivery of the car from a big city like Delhi, or Mumbai or you take it from any Tier-2 or Tier-3 city. Recently, the 500th Nexa sales outlet was inaugurated, in Bengaluru, Karnataka which takes the total Maruti Suzuki’s sales network (ARENA, NEXA and Commercial) to 3,925 outlets covering 2,577 towns and cities.

In terms of sales, in FY 23-24, with sales of over 5.61 lakh vehicles, Nexa had a growth of 54% over the previous financial year. Hence, Nexa adds up to almost 30 percent of Maruti Suzuki’s domestic sales.

Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility achieves cumulative production milestone of 1 crore units

FireShot Capture 735 - Maruti Suzuki's Manesar Facility Achieves Milestone Of 1 Crore Units _ ...png

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd announced on October 17 that its Manesar plant has achieved the milestone of producing 1 crore vehicles, making it the fastest Suzuki plant globally to do so in just 18 years.

The landmark vehicle, a Brezza SUV, rolled out on October 6, 2024. Spread across 600 acres, the Manesar facility produces models like the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Ciaz, catering to both domestic and export markets. The achievement highlights Maruti’s contribution to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and job creation in the auto sector.

Maruti Suzuki's annual production capacity is approximately 23.5 lakh units. The company has manufactured over 3.11 crore vehicles since its inception.

In April this year, the company had expanded the manufacturing capability at its Manesar plant in Haryana by 1 lakh units per year.

"We aim to nearly double our capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years, and this capacity addition of 100,000 vehicles per year is a step towards this goal. It will help us serve our customers faster and enhance our overall capability to manufacture up to 23.5 lakh units per annum, Hisashi Takeuchi, the MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India had said in the April 9 press release.
