The new six-speed manual transmission will be mated to the new 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine producing 95 PS power

The 1,498 cc four-cylinder diesel unit develops more power and torque than the 1.3-litre engine. With 95 PS power at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of peak torque delivered from 1,500 rpm to 2,500 rpm, the DDiS 225 will have claimed fuel efficiency of 26.82 kmpl, which is understandably lower considering that it is a non-SHVS version without dual-battery setup.

Maruti BS6 cars on offer include Alto, Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, XL6, S-Presso, WagonR. Next in line for launch is the Ciaz BS6. Ahead of launch, specs of Ciaz BS6 petrol SHVS have leaked.

As per the leaked document, Maruti Ciaz BS6 petrol SHVS will be available in 4 variants. These are Delta, Zeta, Alpha and S. All powered by the same 1.5 liter petrol BS6 engine, which powers the Ertiga and XL6.

It is to be noted that the Ciaz had received a mid-life facelift earlier in August 2018 and came along with a new 1.5 litre K15B petrol engine. Later, Maruti also introduced a new in-house developed 1.5 litre diesel engine which replaced the Fiat-sourced 1.3 litre diesel unit. With the upcoming upgrade, it is unlikely that the sedan will see any major change except getting cleaner engine under its hood.

Already spied on test, it was spotted testing had the ’Smart Hybrid’ badge which means that the sedan will continue to have a mild-hybrid setup even in the future. The current system (available on the K15B version) comprises of a dual-battery setup and an integrated starter generator unit.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz diesel discontinued

shx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20200217063940_Maruti-Ciaz-1.5-diesel-2.jpg

It was a well-known fact that Maruti Suzuki was in the process of phasing out all diesel models before the implementation of the BS6 emission norms. Now, ahead of the April 1 deadline, the diesel variants of the Ciaz have been discontinued, with the model removed from Maruti's website as well. We can also confirm that dealers have stopped accepting bookings for the diesel Ciaz.

Two engine options were part of the Ciaz diesel line-up. There was the tried-and-tested 90hp, 1.3-litre Multijet unit that was paired with a mild-hybrid system and a 5-speed manual gearbox, and an in-house developed 95hp, 1.5-litre unit coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

@Nairrk, Sir this leaves the Ciaz lovers in pain. The new engine was launched less than a year ago and now it is being discontinued. I see it as a shortsighted approach because MSIL knew well in advance of the BS6 norms implementation then why for a tenure of 8-10 months did they launch a engine which eventually was to die a pre-mature death? They did the same with Celerio Diesel too. With DDIS off CIAZ now, I think Honda & Hyundai have a big opportunity to pull the buyers.

Regards
Akash
