Shame on Maruti for not giving Zxi for Automatic,no ABS & AIRBAG for people who want Automatic?Highly deplorable. Will vote against this arrogance with my wallet.
For a small engine and a budget car, I doubt if ABS and airbags will be that important for customers. I think these features are given more importance by customers only when you move up a few segments... to say Swift.

Also for city driving and change of stock tyre to a good grip tyre, absence of ABS should not be a deal breaker at time of purchase.

Well well, a new kid from Maruti, what do we got here?

AMT seems to be music for my ears because it will definitely be a hit with woman and aged drivers particularly in urban region.

Anyways does not matter for a buyer who needs just a basic A/T vehicle.

It doesn't appeal to youngsters.
Well, i find the car v.appealing since it will be a boon to drive in city traffic which keeps getting worse with every passing month. And, i'm not a woman or aged drivers, but a young male driver!

Plus, the look from front is v. good and i think will appeal to youngsters across genders. Also, it being a Maruti vehicle and not from say Ford or Honda or Chevrolet, we are assured of best ASS.

Hi live cars,
Maybe that's true. But what about someone who values his life?He shouldn't buy Celerio and go looking for higher priced Automatic?I have been using a car without ABS and Airbag for 14 years,so it's not right to say that I haven't had accidents without these safety features so I should continue buying cars without safety features.I don't minding spending a lakh more for safety features. You can't tell when it will become necessary. My friend died in a Honda City even with all safety features, but that doesn't mean safety features are useless. There are lot of cases where the safety features have saved lives.
Regards,
Aneesh.

Yes that is for sure☺☺...
What are we comparing here Wagon R with a Celerio.. both belongs to complete different segments and have large distinction in their target user group.. personally I think that's like comparing Apple to oranges. The only common point between two I can think of is the price range (hopefully :) )

If they can price it right and derive decent FE, Maruti has a clear winner at hands. An affordable Auto hatch is long pending in Indian Automotive Scene lineup.

Every product price of Maruti is on higher side, except lowest models. Be it Swift or WagonR or Stingray. Price is a bit on higher side that competitors. The same can happen in case of Celerio.

My mom booked the VXI automatic today. really strange that no ZXI variant is offered in automatic else she would have booked that. Really pathetic of maruti not to offer audio player etc in VXI

Coming to equipment, the Celerio will be offered in three variants, each with varying levels of features. Air-conditioning and power steering are standard on the base LXi, while the VXi model gets a rear parcel shelf, power windows, central locking and internally adjustable rear view mirrors. The top-spec ZXi is visually distinguishable by its alloy wheels and body-coloured door handles. In its ZXi avatar, the Celerio also gets an integrated audio player with USB, aux-in and Bluetooth for telephone and audio streaming functions, steering controls for the audio system, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, tilt-adjustable steering, a driver’s side airbag, rear wash/wipe and a rear defogger. Interestingly, ABS and a front passenger airbag are available only as an optional package on the ZXi and have to be purchased separately. Also disappointing to note is that these safety features will not be offered on the automatic version of the Celerio that will only be sold in LXi and VXi variants. Maruti’s logic for this is that a fully-loaded Celerio automatic would work out to be too costly and would find few takers.

Maruti Celerio EZ Drive automatic tech explained | Car News | Budget hatchbacks | Autocar India

Maruti’s EZ Drive automatic gearbox is actually a simple maual transmission that has been robotised. It uses a regular manual gearbox and simple clutch, but acts like an automatic, changing gears for you with the help of a dedicated ECU and actuators. Unlike normal automatics, there is no power-sapping torque convertor, so fuel efficiency is almost the same as a manual gearbox.

The official figure is 23.1kpl, under test conditions, which is identical to that of the manual gearbox version. What helps, of course, is that the automatic uses smart software to shift gears early and keep engine revs low.

Once you are sat in the car, you use it like a normal automatic with reverse, neutral and drive. The park function you see on most automatic transmissions is missing, but there is a hold feature to prevent the car from rolling back on slopes and hills.

The gearbox offers five speeds (plus reverse) that work in both fully automatic and in sequential manual mode. In the latter, the driver can choose to pull to upshift and push to downshift. There is also a ‘creep’ mode that allows the gearbox to function at low speeds without stressing the clutch too much.

The automated manual transmission (AMT) tech's cost effectiveness, coupled with its ease of use, are the core benefits. Having introduced it in the about-to-be-launched Celerio, it would be a logical step for Maruti to then extend the AMT into the carmaker’s existing line-up of hatchbacks and saloons.

The only drawback is that AMTs are jerkier than regular automatics; which is why the use of the technology isn't widespread in other developed markets today.

The transmission comes from Magneti Marelli (MM), the component arm of Italian carmaker Fiat SpA. In India, these gearbox components will be sourced from Europe and assembled at Marelli Powertrain India’s facility at Manesar.
