Yesterday, I got the delivery of Baleno Alpha 1.2 Premium Silver. Initially I was very much disappointed that RM asked me to change from grey to silver or wait for 1 more month. But after looking at the premium silver, I am still not believing it as Silver. Its like light grey.. Its just awesome...

Liked the way they delivered the car and gave the demo of every functionality of the car. Nexa is not that bad :-)

All of my friends are jealous after seeing my photo and flowers, chocolates, etc. They asked as 'if this was first car delivered to you in Pune'.. :-)
Congrats, please post the pics of your new car.

Hello Dear

I hope you won't mind if you please post the fuel economy of both the car variants tested by our forum users or who already buy baleno petrol or diesel.

This question is just because I have to pay extra 140000 for Zeta Diesel as compared to Zeta Petrol.

Please post the authenticated Fuel economy of both the variants.

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post in TAI. For past six months I was reading various automotive forums & news and finally booked BALENO petrol first week of Nov. Sales rep promised me to deliver CAR by end of Dec or 1st week of Jan. Forums helped me to narrowed down my search, hope engaging this forum will help me to get day to day updates related to BALENO.

Will keep posting updates from my side.

Alpha gets following features extra compared to zeta
1.Xenon HID projectors and DRLs
2.Touch screen music system with Navigation
3.Reverse Camera
4 .Illuminated passenger side vanity mirror (not mentioned in brochure)
5.Different rear tail lamp design(not mentioned in brochure)

Alpha costs around 80k more than zeta on road
1. Original Xenon HID projectors and DRLs costs around 23-25k and will be available within few months at NEXA.
2. Buying a good high resolution capacitive touch 7" tablet would be more convenient and cheaper than that comes with alpha. Google offline maps are available on playstore now that is hundred times better than any other navigation system.
3. A good quality reverse car camera costs 5000 max.

Petrol Zeta is giving 18-18.5 kmpl mileage to most of the users including me.
No idea about diesel. It might be around 24kmpl.
I will highly suggest you petrol if you drive less than 1200 km per month. Maintenance of petrol is cheaper. Noise of engine is less too.

Newly purchased Maruti Baleno failed to safeguard its occupants during an accident in India.

Sanjay Sehgal, a businessman based in Jalandhar, had purchased new Maruti Baleno on the eve of Diwali recently. To surprise his only daughter, Deepti Katyal (now married to Amit Katyal), about the new car and also celebrate first birthday of his granddaughter, Sanjay decided to travel to Faridabad in his new car to his daughter’s house.

Travelling in Maruti’s new premium hatchback were Sanjay Sehgal (52), his wife Kiran Sehgal (48), niece Pallavi (16), nephews Anshul (18), Parul (17), and Sonu (20).

Their journey of a little over 400 kms started at about 10:30 pm this Wednesday (18th November 2015) from Jalandhar. In the early hours of Thursday, travelling on NH1, near Gharonda in Karnal, their car met with an horrific accident, killing four of the six family members, while the other two (Sonu and Pallavi) were left seriously injured.
As per initial reports, the Baleno in which the Sehgal family was travelling, was hit by a potato laden truck. The impact was such that Maruti Baleno overturned and rolled onto the other side of the highway. The images you see above, is of the crumpled Maruti Baleno after the horrific crash.

By the time cops from local police station arrived on the spot, the driver of the truck had fled accident scene. “A case under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) has been registered against the driver of the truck (HP-12-C-9472),” said Gharonda station house officer (SHO) inspector Jagdish Mor.

When the news of Baleno accident reached friends and family in Jalandhar and to her daughter in Faridabad, it left everyone shell shocked. Eldest in the family, Sanjay was a gem of a person who helped everyone around him, says his cousin Neeraj Sehgal.

Owning several small establishments like department store, book depot, etc, Sanjay was also working with Central Bank of India as a collection agent. Speaking about the four youngsters in the car, Anshul and Parul had plans to go to Australia for higher studies and were awaiting for their visa approval, Pallavi was in class XI, while Sonu helped Sanjay at his book depot.

In Jalandhar cantonment’s Mohalla 23, people shut their shops and gathered at the residence of Mr Sehgal to pay their respect.

Built on a new lightweight platform, Maruti claims that though Baleno is lighter than Swift, its structure and built quality is much stronger; thus making it one of the safest cars on offer in the Maruti line-up. But the photo of crumpled Baleno, leaves a serious doubt over what the car maker has claimed.

This is not the first time that a question mark has been raised over the built quality of cars sold by Maruti Suzuki in India. Maruti Suzuki cars sold in India have been awarded 0 star rating by the likes of Global NCAP in the past. The same cars, which are sold in European countries get 4-5 star rating. Does this indicate that quality of cars sold in India is not at par with their export-spec counterparts?

It’s not only Maruti, as it could have been any other car in the above instance (colliding with a heavy truck) and the result would not have been different 9 out of 10 times. There are other manufacturers as well who have been questioned about not selling same quality cars in India which they have built for export at the same plant. For example, recently reader Rishabh Sekhani highlighted a response he got from VW India customer care when he asked them if the body structure and safety of Jetta sold in India is same as that of sold in the US; as both versions get CKD kits built in Mexico.

The reply Mr Sekhani received from VW India read – “With reference to your query below, we would like to inform you that while the Jetta is manufactured from CKD kits manufactured in Mexico, its body structure is not the same as the Jetta sold in the United States. Hence the safety features are different from those available in North America.”

The question we need to ask manufacturers is why the difference in quality? Why not make all cars with same quality, be it for export or for India or for any other country?

Sadly, better build quality does not always insure safety, as there have been cases where people have died inside a Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW or any premium expensive car. But, better build quality along with we adhering to traffic and safety rules, will definitely reduce the number of accident related deaths in India.

Mileage of 18 - 18.5 kms for petrol you stated is under city driving conditions or it's on a highway ?
Today I booked Diesel version Alpha variant by paying the booking amount of Rs 11k. As my commute in a month won't go beyond 800 kms unless during occasional trips, thinking on whether I can go with Petrol instead of Diesel [thinking].
It's been few days you got the car. How's your experience so far with Petrol version ? How powerful is the petrol when compared to Diesel on a highway and in city ?
An important point my RM quoted was if I can wait till past Jan 20th 2016, I can get 2016 model. Do you feel it's true [confused]?

Accident of this baleno drives me away from choosing a baleno.
By the way, is Honda brio is also of weak quality or is it safe enough?

Buddy, I would suggest, by reading just one part of story we should not decide. If a Innova or any other mass-market car would have been rear-ended by a truck with high speed it would have led to a similar scene. None of us were present on-sight and all we can see is the pic and read details and we are not aware of the exact speed of Baleno too. I am not defending Baleno, all I am saying is lets judge it fairly and everyone of us should accept that Baleno is a average built car and we can't expect it to be rough and tough. Also, with this incident, one thing I would also like to know, if at all, a crash test was done on Baleno! If done, what was the safety rating provided?

Bro, visit this link to c how a rangerover behaved in a collision. Accidents in India with Pictures - Page 1111 - Team-BHP

Its a range rover, look at the state of it and its occupants. There's no guarantee on safety when it comes to high speed collision.

And all cars when it comes to their indian counterparts are way inferior in build quality, performance and features. No quarrel there. No car is fool proof at the hands of fate. Do your part to remain safe and leave the rest to upar vala.
God bless.

See, i personally booked the baleno's zeta version but in india the roads and driving is not like abroad. I am pretty sure that the driver of baleno should be also on high speed and its true that even sometimes cars worth of millions of bucks fails to save its passengers.
Therefore, i suggest you, to not judge vehicle capabilities just by seeing its pictures because responsible scenarios are different for different accidents.
And also as they have explained the rigidity of new body, so it should be better than its predecessors for sure. [:)]

Manoj, thanks for finding me capable to answering your queries[:)]. Engine cover absence was an issue to me as well when I saw this car prior to launch but NEXA people told, many luxury sedans too don't have it and there will not be any issues due to absence of the same. Now, if the NEXA is giving you in writing that they'll give you a 2016 model then well and good. Once when your allotted car arrives and you do the PDI then do make sure to take the VIN and get it decoded to be extra sure that the model is indeed 2016 manufactured. Generally, NEXA's claim of giving a 2016 model for a December 2015 booking seems to be 50-50 gamble. Rest once you have the VIN, we'll decode it and it would be easier for you surely.

Akash
