Completely agree. But then how many families have all 6 ft+ members? For others it is just right.
Also agree to the point about 3 people in 2nd row. But the width is exactly same as the Swift. Let's not even compare it with other hatches like Santro, Wagon-R etc. who have even worse space for 3 passengers in rear-seat.
Infact Toyota Etios has the same width. I feel at this price, the Ertiga Vdi makes more sense than a Toyota Etios. Much more flexible and refined and definitely not Cheap as Etios.

The Ford Classic, the Manza and Other sedans too are in the same range of about 1680 to 1720 mm or so width. So I would say just consider the Ertiga as a flexible Sedan or hatchback or basically a station wagon with 2 seats in the boot.

For people switching from Sedan / hatchbacks, I would recommend Ertiga since it is a versatile car, which also doubles up as minivan when you need extra row of seats for extended family. Other good things about Ertiga have been discussed earlier too - car like drive quality, amazing fuel efficiency, compact size, reliability, maruti service advantage (read lower cost).

On the other hand, people who are switching from SUVs or other UVs, Xylo could be more appealing since it is more powerful and more spacious because of the size. Xylo also has the taxi image and aesthetically scores lower (both interior and exterior). You should be considering Innova, if you are looking for a UV.. Xylo doesn't stand a chance when compared to Innova.

In summary, if you are looking for a car with flexibility consider Ertiga. If you are looking for UV, look for alternative option (Innova).

I doubt this aspect these days. But one things for real the space is just out of question and doesn't qualify as an UV

While i see More Taxi Innovas than Xylos in our city, also i feel Innova is just not powerful as Xylo and not even spacious in all rows,

I have a budget of 13 lakhs and i want every features like ABS, Airbags, cruise control in my car and want the car to be money's worth, do i get that in the Innova? Definitely not, i have to spend 4 more lakhs to get that and you have to add many bits still.

If you consider space for 7 people, then there are better options. I mentioned space for 4 people + luggage space. I switched over from Sedan and definitely find Ertiga to be spacious & airy inside the cabin.

Hmm.. Can't deny this. There are lot more Innova taxis than Xylos. But Innova is little more aero dynamic than the Xylo.

You can slightly stretch & consider Innova G model which is decently loaded (not all features you have listed above).. But I would go with Innova anyway for the proven reliability in long run, Toyota maintenance.. And most importantly ride quality is much better in Innova than Xylo.

Again all of this is my personal observation. No offense to your thoughts.

Guys I think its going off topic as the discussion is on Ertiga Vs Xylo. Undoubtedly the winner is Mahindra Xylo, the power horse. I was an ertiga owner, however, sold it recently only because of flimsy body construction and hell lot of power lags.

Poll results are in favour of Ertiga by a decent margin so far. Let us allow it some more time before concluding which is the winner.

Hi TAIDhana,

This POLL is also like last times LS Polls, initially it might look like Ertiga as the winner, however, the winner will be Xylo. Lets wait and watch for some more time.

Thanks

Poll is almost a year now. Ertiga is a straight winner of its practicality. If Mahindra would reduce the price of its variants it might join the race again.

Folks,

Have you driven the new H-Series Xylo? You will be blown away by its power, ride quality and features.

I would prefer this Volvo mini bus compared to the puny Ertiga [;)]

I have TD H series recently. I do not see any improvements in interiors the fit and finish is worst of its class. Even a tempo traveller has better interior than a Xylo for such cost why should I buy a xylo van instead can go in for Tata venture. If all you want is a power ForceOne has better power than a Xylo.

In addition to the poll results, the sheer increase in number of Ertigas on the road talks for the success.

Xylo is big and as someone mentioned a mini bus or a people mover. No doubts on its capabilities from that perspective since it has the power and space as well. But Ertiga is a more practical UV with the ride quality of a car. Hence I chose Ertiga & voted for it here as well.

sat in an ertiga. drove it too.

front seats lacks the room for me.

the middle seats are good only when pushed to the back.

and when the middle row seats are pushed the last row seats cannot be folded to a flat bed completely.

so the rear luggage space is compromised and unless one gets rid of the last row of seating , the luggage carrying capacity is low.

comparatively, the xylo is much more roomier, has good thigh support at all rows and the rear seats can be folded completely to make space for luggage.

so for versatility , xylo scores, with more power and comfort.
