What parts are hard to come by?All the parts are swap-able from the Maruti 800.

The body would need to looked over properly. For an old vehicle rust is the mail problem. If you are repainting the car, get the old paint stripped to bare metal. This way you can gauge the actual condition of the car and all the panels.Do the same for the interior. You can use zinc oxide primer for the outside and use 3M underseal for the interior prior to paint.

For information on restoration check out this thread:
http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...ion-maruti-800-1991-tonnes-pics-uploaded.html

The tires on the SS80 can easily be upgraded to 13" without any problems. This is because the struts used by the SS80 are like the zen and you can get GAS filled struts instead of oil filled like the 800.If you go with 13" rims and tires make sure they do not scrape on full lock.

Some parts like, door beedings, rubbers, glass & door trim, locks, bumpers, wiper link rods etc are not available. Even after market ones are hard to find.

There is an SS80 painted almost 4 years back and still standing at the garage for these small bits.

Just had a talk with Essar owner (B'lore) he informed me that they are having stock of SS80's engine bedding, shocks, gearbox mounting, other engine spares required for SS80.

Nice body work done. Very nostalgic indeed, we had one of these red colour vehicles, a fun to drive car. The first small car in India.

Just now went through the thread. Should say it was one hell of a restoration project.

The custom made seats are awesome, It has been almost a year you restored the car. So how are the seats cushion? Is it still good as it was a year ago?

Anyone have any inputs ? want to drop an 800 cc mpfi bs4 engine / tranny into an 86 maruti 800. I think the extra power might make it a hoot to drive.

Are you wanting to drop both engine and tranny or just engine or just tranny?

Is you 86 the SS80 or the MB308?

Is the MPFi that you want to transplant the 4 speed or the 5 speed?

Raj007:The logo seems to be like that due to being covered/masked during painting. If you still feel it is something else, you need to google.

The SS80 with such low mileage is a gem.I suggest you do all the routine maintenance on it.Change all the fluids and filters.

Finding body parts and trim is going to be real pain. These are extremely hard to come by and be ready for a lot of walking around.Best places to find parts are at scrap yards. If funds aren't an issue you can try to source parts from Australia.

Keep it as original as possible.
