Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying & Ownership Experience [50K Kms Crossed
The XUV was completely fixed about 10 days back, i have been testing it since, i am unofficial wiring expert of the xuv now. Had some local wiring help as well, we ripped up the interior, removed the front seats and then the damage was evident in the wiring in the door sills.
Meticulously connected and taped back everything. One wont be able to imagine this, but the rat can go through the foot well in to the B pillars and through there to the roof of the XUV - it happened in my case, we had to even open the roof cushion slightly to mend the overhead led light. The amount of damage it can cause can be devastating !! My rat especially was an electronics engineer, it managed to nibble the important wires including can bus lines and side air bag wires.
Cleared the immobiliser and the XUV started in one go! An important thing to remember if the ECU wires are nibbled and you still attempt to start it, after 5 attempts the engine will immobilise - which means you cant start it again yourself and need dealer diagnostics to have the immobiliser disabled.
Some other very important points to note for XUV owners :-
1) XUV has plenty of sponge type dampening materials under the carpet and insulation areas, these are loved by rats! The only way to avoid is to prevent them from getting there.
2) There are largely 3 points where the rats can get in to the car, AC vents(front wiper under windscreen), 2 plastic covers near the front driver and passenger foot well. If there is one investment you can do on your XUV make sure you secure these 3 areas, the AC vent has a rat mesh available from your mahindra dealer now, the other 2 plastic - just keep an eye and use a sealant to make sure its fixed properly, especially if you had additional lights or wiring.
3) The good thing in an XUV though is using the computer diagnostics you can figure everything including which wire is the problem. The only problem is there are too many wires!
I have done around a 1000 kms since and all is absolutely fine now - the most important and pending action now is AC rat mesh and sealant in the engine firewall , i plan to do it this week.
