Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying & Ownership Experience [50K Kms Crossed

Sorry to hear that bro. I hope no other damage is done to the wires inside the engine compartment. Since you are done with most of the wires I recommend you finish the rest and go directly to a M&M dealer for a full check up.

Between mine is about to cross 78K[:)]
Little damage in the engine bay as well, but that doesnt look bad.

Mate IR,
Thats very sorry to hear.
Rats are absolute nuisance and let me place some rat Poison around the vehicle today itself!!

Are the wires color coded? Because connecting wires wrong way will cause more damage and could even blow up the ECU or Battery. Is the vehicle in Warranty with RSA? Try calling them. They might help you tow the vehicle to SVC. However, These best thing I can think of right now is Disconnect the battery +ve and -VE to prevent further damage. Please don't try starting the vehicle.

You may use a metal rod/Pole for towing.
Do keep us posted.
I need to figure a solution too long term, repellants are better, poison will kill it but before it eats the poison it can still do the damage, they are extremely smart rodents and there could be more than one.

The XUV has plenty of items the rodents love chewing on, especially the rubber items and the soft sponge on the insulation side.

The vehicle isnt in warranty nor do i have any RSA(may be my insurance has something need to check). My plan is to spend the coming weekend as well on it, i am arranging some helping hands and then figure out a way to at least get it to a SVC to replace the wiring harness.

That's bad.. Check XUV RSA first, that will be the best.
No RSA unfortunately, i didnt extend warranty as well, i dont think warranty would have helped anyways as rat damage will not be covered in manufacturers warranty. Insurance might cover it though, but i need to check if i really need it.

Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying & Ownership Experience [50K Kms Crossed

The XUV was completely fixed about 10 days back, i have been testing it since, i am unofficial wiring expert of the xuv now. Had some local wiring help as well, we ripped up the interior, removed the front seats and then the damage was evident in the wiring in the door sills.

Meticulously connected and taped back everything. One wont be able to imagine this, but the rat can go through the foot well in to the B pillars and through there to the roof of the XUV - it happened in my case, we had to even open the roof cushion slightly to mend the overhead led light. The amount of damage it can cause can be devastating !! My rat especially was an electronics engineer, it managed to nibble the important wires including can bus lines and side air bag wires.

Cleared the immobiliser and the XUV started in one go! An important thing to remember if the ECU wires are nibbled and you still attempt to start it, after 5 attempts the engine will immobilise - which means you cant start it again yourself and need dealer diagnostics to have the immobiliser disabled.

Some other very important points to note for XUV owners :-

1) XUV has plenty of sponge type dampening materials under the carpet and insulation areas, these are loved by rats! The only way to avoid is to prevent them from getting there.

2) There are largely 3 points where the rats can get in to the car, AC vents(front wiper under windscreen), 2 plastic covers near the front driver and passenger foot well. If there is one investment you can do on your XUV make sure you secure these 3 areas, the AC vent has a rat mesh available from your mahindra dealer now, the other 2 plastic - just keep an eye and use a sealant to make sure its fixed properly, especially if you had additional lights or wiring.

3) The good thing in an XUV though is using the computer diagnostics you can figure everything including which wire is the problem. The only problem is there are too many wires!

I have done around a 1000 kms since and all is absolutely fine now - the most important and pending action now is AC rat mesh and sealant in the engine firewall , i plan to do it this week.

Yes and in turn the rat dumbfounded me, the xuv wires can go round the earth! i had some good local techs with wiring know how so that helped. I havent found the devil, i think he is not in the vehicle anymore - the vehicle wiring panel is laced with rat poison now and i am going for nuclear holocaust(pumping in rat poison to go after the all the rats ) - its me or them now!

I dont have too many pictures but will share some, its hard to click pictures when the heart is broken. The rodent mesh cost ill update by friday, need to visit the SVC.

Ask me IR,
When Installing HID kits or LED DRLs,
The wiring is so long and complicated that not just the earth, it could make a new Ring around saturn!

Please be quick about rat mesh update as I am scheduled an appointment with SVC this week as well!

I made them a call. They're saying about 2k all inclusive for rat mesh.
Is there something like "General Checkup and Inspection" charges which they're putting about 4k?

Dont buy anything they say on face value, ask them what included in it. I usually stand with the car and get things done - see if you can do it that way.

Yes that's my method. However most garages these days oppose standing near vehicle i've fallen into grouches with staff at times. I still make rounds near the vehicle as much as possible.

Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying & Ownership Experience [53K Kms Crossed

Fixed the rat mesh today and also sealed two crucial entry points !
it cost me 1k. I urge all XUV to get his done to avoid rat related damage, trust me a lot of wiring damage can be avoided with this.

Its a quick half an hour job, with the wiper motor and wiper assembly removed.
The air vents inside - sealant needs applying and grill placed and further sealant application. If you do it DIY it shoudnt cost over 400 Rs is my view.

Some pictures Below :-

See here how the sponge was bitten by the rat, this is inside the passenger side footwell from where it got in eating the plastic cover - its best to seal this tight, we used the same rat mesh sealant, rat mesh is 150 rs, sealant some 770 rs as its an expensive one.

And finally

IMG_20151120_130252.jpg

and yes there is some display related recall, they didnt have the part in hand and i didnt get a chance to enquire in detail, if you are visiting an svc you should ask, I think this is for older XUVs - am not 100% certain though.

Check the pic above which shows the sponge bits, it's underneath the passenger and driver side footwell, it's basically a black round plastic cover and if you seal it well rat will have a hard time getting in, in my case rat nibbled and opened it.

You will need to peep inside the dashboard from underneath

The paint finish looks amazing IR.
Hard labour with the meguair wax 5 months back, however this pic was just taken after a svc steam wash, the last wax was done over 5 months back but the wax effect has been decent. I am in the process of moving to Collinite, i really like it and its very hardy. Service centers in pune (especially the big ones) are moving to steam wash now to conserve water (municipal directive as well) - to be honest the picture came out a tad too well.

Ill post a pic once i do the collinite job, hopefully next week. The Xuv paint state is err not bad for a 4+ year old vehicle now.[:D]
