Re: Mahindra XUV5OO: "The Dark Knight" Buying and Ownership Experience

@mukesh yes, mine was the first in karnataka and probably the first in india..it is september manufactured as per the chassis number..got it from india garage-st.marks.Dealer's promised date was i think in march but i got it directly from m&m via the dealer.Dealer did not have much of a role to play but they did their job quite well in whatever that was there!

@ironrock it's 3.06..got it updated recently..the mileage reading has'nt crossed 15kmpl..infact i think it has not gone above 14.4/5 in the highways as it is awd..In the city it shows between 10.1 and 10.5 most times!! But i got to say that u cannot rely on this..it is wrong most of the times!

But seriously i dont think you will get more than 15kmpl for a vehicle of this size!!if u get anywhere between 14 and 15..thats damn good!!

ohh well i have covered over 6500 kms by now including pune - kerala and back trip and i can tell you with some sedate highway driving i.e 80km/hr at 6th gear u can get some astounding numbers [:)]. I remember very clearly when i got the car it had an old software and that use to display 24kmpl initially(for a few mins) and used to come down with normal driving driving to around 18/19 and stay there with my style of driving - offcourse i am not suggesting the figure is anyways accurate but take it with a pinch of salt - what i am saying is mahindra has either introduced this since the last few versions either advertently or inadvertently and i am chasing them to have this fixed, was told with 3.0.6 it would be fixed but it aint.

Btw my overall efficiency was around 16-16.5 kmpl (calculated the usual tank full method) - which says a lot abt this mhawk heart. Most of it was highway driving.

also i think ur fuel efficiency shud not be radically different than mine as AWD will be seldom engaged for all practical purposes(as its not a fulltime AWD) - i reckon the additional weight will have some effect thats about it..have u tried any offroading yet ?

Good to have u onboard, i have been listing all my hassles and the better points in this log - mahindra are doing a fantastic job so far resolving the initial hiccups - but i hope they are able to close this chapter soon.

Wow, Hi there bobby, heard that AWD works only for few moments, say upto 30 kmph.

What's your take on this, does it works only during wheel slippage?

The XUV infotainment displays if any of the doors are ajar - this happens when the car is in motion and it shows the exact door which is open. When the car is still it shows the door ajar warning in the dashboard.
Pic for reference ..[cheers]

This is really a useful feature. Now, i get a feel that M&M's R&D is doing a super job in having everything into softwares and electricals.

As far as my knowledge goes ,the XUV has a full time AWD, but it works with an Interactive Torque Management system which redistributes torque depending on surface below the tyre.

The car runs on 2WD most of the time and only when the going gets tough the AWD get activated. So the system will disengage itself when it doesn't feel the need to be on.

i dont think it disengages above some certain speed, but only when it feels that it doesn't need to be on.

i have no idea regarding the borg warner series it uses!
@ironrock: i'm getting some grinding noises when braking hard while cruising fast ..are you also getting the same sounds??

Hi Bobbydeep i think what u r trying to say its AWD on demand based on the traction among the wheels which effectively means they will be some speed control over when it engages too or it becomes very dangerous and could damage the drive train - i dont personally think a AWD of this nature suits high speed so beyond certain speeds awd will never engage and this makes sense too as when u drive offroad u wont be speeding (atleast 99% of us)

Well the grinding noise with the front brake pads is common folklore now with older XUV, mahindra is changing them free of cost with a new modified brakepad - check with your rm and get it done asap.[cheers]

BTW are your perimetric alarms behaving - do they go off after a long drive ?

@ironrock: agree with you that it that we all drive at low speeds when offroading..That is the only time the awd comes into play in most probability and very rarely on tarmac.

Regarding the alarms, they dont go off regularly (after a long drive) but only sometimes.
