Was XUV's oil change at 20K kms from the beginning or it is done recently?
20K kms means some serious stuff might be going in the monster. Any specific oil from mahindra?
That's probably for the current models. The one i have:
1st Oil change = 5000 kms
2nd Oil change = 20000 kms

Mahindra uses its own branded oil -

Mahindra Maximile FEO (Fuel Efficient Oil)

The changes have been incorporated some time back.

In addition to the extended service intervals, M&M has removed the time limit for the scheduled services, which is every 20k. So, now the vehicles will come to the A.S.S. only if they have run 20000 kms, without any restriction as whether its done in 4 months or a year. However, M&M does recommend changing the engine oil in 1 year, irrespective of the kms.

That's probably for the current models. The one i have:
1st Oil change = 5000 kms
2nd Oil change = 20000 kms
You are right, the first oil change is in the first free service. I guess its true for every vehicle, since the vehicle is in the run-in period. Thereafter, its every 20000 kms. Generally, that (the first service) is not considered when we talk about the intervals.

Yes, all owners (even the first batch) follow the revised schedule. I have an official service bulletin of Mahindra which says -

Note:
1. The change in Maintenance Schedule are effective with RETROSPECT (i.e. All earlier vehicle can follow the Revised Schedule)
2. The Owner’s manual, Warranty Information and Maintenance Guide are being revised.

REASON FOR CHANGE:
− Customer Feedback
− Lower Cost of Ownership to Customer
− Sustainability

CHANGE / IMPROVEMENT:
Revised Maintenance Schedule for XUV500 without Time Interval.

The above is copy-pasted from the file.

Is oil change free ? At any service interval ? Specially which the owners were told to do at 5,000 Kms ? And still a new owner has to do one at 5000k and then 20k Kms ?

Of course, oil change is not free!

All new/old owners have to change the oil at 5000 kms and thereafter 20k, 40k and so on.

I had made an excel sheet which ideally I should have put up on the Storme v/s XUV thread, but since that is closed, I will show it to you here. Its a comparison of the BASIC service costs -

Untitled1.jpg

I have only included these four items in the excel as I could manage to source the prices of only these items, but I guess it would give you a fair idea of the ownership costs.

Now I understand that if I consider upto a Lac kms, then one more service of XUV will be included. Even in that case,

Total money spent on XUV in 100000 kms = Rs. 24525/-
Total money spent on Storme in 100000 kms = Rs. 22770/-

I do not see any major differences in the ownership costs.

Compensation as in what happens to free services for the owners who used the earlier schedule ? Are they compensated ?

And so in 20k Kms the oils change is done 2 times in xuv and in storme it is done 2 times at 30 k Kms right ?

Raja, the 3 free services are unaltered. The services are at 5k, 10k and 20k. The 10k service is nothing but a check-up service where nothing is changed or replaced. They will just inspect the fluid levels, clean the car and give it back to you.

Yes.

Edit: To clear the confusion, M&M still recommends you visit the A.S.S., every 10k kms and not 20k kms. But as said above, the 10k, 30k, 50k services are nothing but just checkup services. Servicing is done at 5k, then 20k, then 40k, then 60k and so on.

I guess it was every 10000 kms. But worse part was that car had to be bought to the A.S.S. every 3 months!

Luckily, that was revised to 6 months and Nov 2012 onwards, they have totally removed the time limit. Now, it is only based on the odo reading.

Hey guys got the new gen brake pads for free from Mahindra yesterday even after 15000km. Had gone for the Maps 8.0 upgrade.

BTW they also have a service bulletin for installing wire mesh for the prevention of rodent entry. please check with you RMs if your vehicle falls into that category or not.

Checked the XUV W4 for the first time today -

  • Apart from the obvious differences in features mentioned before in this thread, the W4's glovebox does not have a damped release like in the W6 and W8.
  • The AC vent adjustment rings is not chrome.
  • The fabric seats of the W4 are softer than the leather ones in my W8, feels nice and plush.
  • The dashboard does not look bland in any way, except the odd looking/grey clock.
  • W4 looks best in black. The silver one looks plane jane.

Special Edition Mahindra XUV500 to be launched in Red colour

As per IAB:

Mahindra will be introducing a special edition variant this year on their flagship model, the XUV500, Indian Autos Blog has come to learn from sources. The special edition XUV will embrace the red color, sporting it in surplus inside and out.

The special edition XUV will get red graphics on the alloy wheels and bumpers.

On the outside, the XUV500 special edition will get red body graphics on its sides, while the wheel rims and spokes will also be highlighted in red. The front and rear bumpers will sport a red theme to them, while the boot door would feature a special-edition badge.

Inside, Mahindra will offer a full red livery, extending the color to the dashboard and seats of the SUV. The shade of the color is said to be a ‘cherry red’.

The special edition XUV will most likely be made available only in the top-end W8 model. The engine, a 2.2-liter mHawk, four-cylinder motor producing 140 bhp and 330 Nm of torque, will continue unchanged.

Inside, the special edition XUV will get red dashboard and seat fabrics.

Since its launch in September 2011, Mahindra has not cosmetically updated the XUV500, apart from introducing a new Arctic Blue color and an entry-level W4 variant devoid of foglamps. Priced at INR 10.95 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi), the W4 XUV competes with crossovers a segment below, such as the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport.
