Re: Mahindra XUV500 Facelift (2018) Spied

Looking at the front its not much changed. New Grille is modified version of XUV500 AERO Concept. Fog lamps are same. AND YES IT GOT DRL AFTER 5-6 Years. [clap]

Most frustrating part is the backside of this Cheetah. I don't understand why Mahindra changed the Taillight? I was Expecting same TailLight with LED lights like New Generation SCORPIO. But Mahindra Chose to change the Tailgate to MUV. Maybe they are interested to give MUV like looks e.g.Hexa but they failed miserably [pig].

Now waiting for Interior pics & Alloys pics, hope they will bring blackened alloy wheels. And premium quality interior with Leather on Dashboard.

P.S.- I whatsapp these pics to my friends & some of them liked it (?). May be this model will get good sales like current generation.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 Facelift (2018) Spied

XUV shape is deteriorating over the different versions.1st gen was the best looker.Same is the case with Scorpio and Bolero too. Always the 1st gen is the best shape. Then they make an effort(just for the sake of upgrade /update ) to convert it into weirder and weirder shapes, till you don't recognize it anymore. They even destroyed the trademark/hallmark beautiful design of rear tail lamps. Its BAD.Really BAD
And then look at TATA.Their latest SUV design showcased in auto expo. It looked 4 generations ahead (of this design) if not 3. I loved it. It was looking hi-fi.

Having owned the XUV500 for sometime I must say they have spoilt the design of the car. The previous generations looked much better both from the front and rear. The only thing I disliked about the 1st generation XUV500 were those cheap quality DRL's.
This facelift seems to be released just for the heck of it.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 Facelift (2018) Spied

To put is shortly, I am very dissapointed by these release.
1. We have an XUV whatsapp group and everyone now is praising 1st gen XUV. Early XUV onwers are having a ball time.

2. With every iteration, Mahindra has Deviated from Original cheetah theme and added more and more chrome. Some people might be liking such chrome but in my opinion it looks gaudy. Look at the hideous Fog lamp chrome on 2015 refresh. And this one takes it a step further. There's just too much ugly chrome.

3. XUV was one of the rare Vehicles Not just in India but all over the world to be based on the Theme. Yes the cheetah Theme. And in 1st generation, Mahindra was able to get Not just one aspect but entire package. The looks, The form, The Stance, The performance, The small bits. It was all there. They started loosing it from 2nd gen onwards

4. Where are the cheetah inspired Claw mark tail lamps? Remember the small tribal motif on brake lights from the savvanah? Every reviewer in early 2011 was ga-ga over these small details.
These new tail lamps looks like something from a malformed innova. Pathetic.

5. Cheetah whiskers were removed in 2nd gen itself. Now they removed cheetah Teeth theme grille and replaced it with odd design with ugly chrome.

6. W11? Seriously? Early w8 owners had all the required functions. Rather than adding functions, mahindra is simply dropping features from W8 now.
DVD and 3rd row reading lamps were removed in 2015. Wonder what they removed now.

7. But the most painful thing is this-
Mahindra seems to have forgotten their early bird patrons. We were the people to buy an unknown vehicle of unknown track record for well over 15 lacs. We put trust in the brand and made it stand.
Purple club gimmick worked only for first 3 years. There are zero invites since 2 years now. Even simple offers like monsoon cleaning, AC cleaning, polishing discounts etc are long gone.
1st gen have zero map and software updates after original warranty (Not Even paid ones). The direct impact here is that older XUVs suffer tremendous depreciation in used car market. This is affecting long term experiences of the users.

I can only dream that they could launch the 1st gen in simply more reliable and refined package without ugly chrome and unwanted changes.

Though I feel the design has gone down quite bad, the front is still tolerable. Some covering up of the chrome with black coating, may make it look decent. However, the tail lamps do not suit such a tall SUV. The earlier tail lamps were much better, and this one is just ruining the look altogether.

Front End looks good, nothing extra ordinary, XUV 500 was an exceptionally beautiful car among the SUV's of 2011/12. But the same cannot be said about the current 2018' facelift.
The tail-lights design and shape looks completely out of elements.
Lets wait for the interior pics to see how it fares.
but i think it will still be a best seller for M&M.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 Facelift (2018) Spied

I'm going to send all this to Mahindra after official release.
Please Do that. I am waiting for the launch so that I can tweet Mr.Anand Mahindra about this silly changes OR I should be doing it right away? [confused]
He said at the event of New Generation SCORPIO that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" & they did that with XUV5OO 2018 Facelift. [frustration]

Here is my attempt to make Rear bit good looker.
Back1.jpg
Back2.jpg

and by LED Taillight like New Gen SCORPIO I was expecting this kind of work from Mahindra, refer LED Taillight option made by "twobrothers" which is available on youtube.

By editing the tail light extensions on boot, the rear profile looks even more MPV like. Also, I am getting a feel of the Xylo inspired tail light design now seeing the edits. XUV-5OO was a very big competition to the Hexa and now it is all going to boil down to the performance and pricing. I am guessing it would possibly undercut Hexa by 60-70K in mid variants (as mid variant sell more) and about 40-50K in top spec. The base version should be around 13L Ex-Showroom. If someone has a budget of 15-17L for a SUV then between Hexa & XUV which one will be more VFM now is the main question!

Lets not forget the fact that looks are subjective and even though this new one might not be as bold as the out-going one still the badge 'XUV-5OO' will pull people. TML here has a big opportunity to ramp up the production of Hexa's mid variants and not raise the prices by a huge margin as to keep the VFM tag intact.

After the recent showcase of the Roxor, this perhaps is the 2nd one where a lot of expectations were there from the people. Lets hope M&M do surprise us with the pricing.

I don't think Hexa is a big competitor to the XUV, taking into consideration the not so high sales numbers of the Hexa. More than the Hexa, I think its the Jeep Compass, that took away some of the XUV customers, who did not find much utility with the last row of seats. However, the bold move by Mahindra is just a show of confidence they have on their car. If you remember, before the Crysta, most updates of the Innova looked worse than the previous version it replaced. However, the brand was made, and the sale continued to soar.

XUV in a similar way, has built a brand for itself, and those who are looking forward to buy the XUV, would not mind the changes in this update.

I am not agree with this. Anyways that rear don't look sporty, as always Mahindra did overdose of design on XUV5OO 2018 like they did with other Mahindra launches. What I tried is minimizing too much design used by Mahindra. I still feel first one looks good, better than Original one. But that's what I think.

About HEXA as biggest competitor to XUV5OO, again sales numbers don't prove that HEXA is threat to XUV5OO. Yes, when HEXA launched I thought it will pull sales from XUV5OO with that butch looks, good ride, premium Interior but sadly that never happened.

Looks are subjective but we are watching XUV5OO from 5-6 years with same tailgate so we don't want to accept this new different design as it will ruin CHEETAH image of XUV5OO. [frustration] I still hope Maybe it will look good in flesh.

True, I don't see HEXA as big competition to XUV5OO. With almost 2000+ units per month of XUV5OO VS less than 1000 for HEXA, Mahindra definitely not seeing HEXA as competition. HEXA lovers will describe 1000 per month is decent numbers as they always do but when you compare more than 2000+ units of XUV5OO, more than 2000 units per month for Newly launched Jeep Compass, more than 9000 sales of Creat And more than 6000 units of Innova every month, accept it OR not its way less than expected. HEXA's sales numbers never went more than 1900 for a month.

P.S.- I have observed one thing regarding Mahindra's strategy for selling good numbers from Start. They reveal such undisguised pics of their upcoming product before launch so even if design is different & quirky, people will start liking it after watching it few times. So when product is launched, people are already familiar with design so they accept it resulting in good booking numbers at the launch.

When I saw these pics first time, I just hate it as I am familiar & in love with current model. Later watching them again & again, I am started to like front of XUV5OO 2018 and I feel like Rear is not that bad, it will look good in person. Overall product will look good with new alloys. Hope anybody will upload interior pics soon.

Actually, the Base and Mid Variants of Hexa are priced close to XUV even now so it surely is a competitor to XUV. Top models of Hexa are much closer to Crysta in pricing. The relatively low numbers of Hexa are because of the limited volume production and to a great extent due to the perception of people about the brand. But, still Hexa has ably hung around near 800-1000 mark and occasionally even crossing the 1K mark as well. So, nothing much to bother. Coming to Compass, Yes, many of the XUV buyers did consider it and number of them eventually shifted to Compass thereby reducing the numbers for it.

However, the bold move by Mahindra is just a show of confidence they have on their car. If you remember, before the Crysta, most updates of the Innova looked worse than the previous version it replaced. However, the brand was made, and the sale continued to soar.
That's perhaps the power of the badge which developed over the years. People associate to the badge and not really concerned of the product. People also buy Crysta because it has an "Innova" badge on it and people still associate the Crysta with the reliability of the Innova made over the year and so they associate to it.

XUV in a similar way, has built a brand for itself, and those who are looking forward to buy the XUV, would not mind the changes in this update.
That is what I had said in my earlier post above, Even though the new one might not be Bold like the out-going one still the badge 'XUV-5OO' will pull the people.

Actually the rear profile isn't as bold and looks more of an MPV and quite bland in my view even without edit. Those tail light extensions could be better designed if not removed. XUV was known for a bold and beautiful design but this one's rear is not as appealing. The edits make it look an even more MPV like.

As I mentioned above there are couple of reasons as to why Hexa is having relatively low numbers and why is it seen as the competitor to XUV.

Looks are subjective but we are watching XUV5OO from 5-6 years with same tailgate so we don't want to accept this new different design as it will ruin CHEETAH image of XUV5OO. I still hope Maybe it will look good in flesh.
It is the badge which would still pull the loyal buyers to some extent. XUV-5OO is a established name and even though the design might not be liked by many of us but still it would garner buyers due to it's history so far. As far as I am concerned, the front is somewhat acceptable but the rear definitely can be better designed.

HEXA is competitor to XUV5OO, in price bracket but not in sales. I wonder, TML can product 4000 Tiagos & Newly launched Nexon every month but not a year Old HEXA [;)]. What kind of production issues they are facing only TML & TML lovers knows.
I guess all the forums available on internet will always call HEXA as success story (It is a success story if we count it as good product below Rs.20 lacs but..). Anyways HEXA is not the subject we are here to discuss.

I tried another edit with number plate housing for Rear & now it is looking quite good.[:D]

Re: Mahindra XUV500 Facelift (2018) Spied

Today I Visited Mahindra showroom in Mumbai. Asked them about this facelift model. Sales person told me that they already got these two images but they are not confirm if it’s Legitimate. He told that they have news of launch of XUV5OO 2018 Facelift in second week of April, though date is not yet declaired. He also confirmed that Interior will get new dashboard plastics, may be leather treatment.

Lets see if we get Interior images first or will see it after launch. Current model has OTR price of ₹ 21,77,000/-, hope Mahindra will keep prices below current prices for Facelift. Its already reaching ₹ 22 lacs for W10. [surprise]

P.S.- Outgoing model of XUV5OO is having ₹ 40000 or higher discount so if anybody is interested they can get that discount.
