Next-gen Mahindra Scorpio to get 160 hp 2.0-litre diesel engine - Report

Mahindra-Scorpio-2017-facelift-right-rear-three-quarters.jpg

Mahindra's new BSVI-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine will be available in three states of tune. Of these three versions, the mid-spec version will produce a maximum power of 160 hp and propel the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio. As per the new report, the powerplant will weigh 80 kg lesser than the 2.2-litre mHawk motor of the current-gen model. It will even offer a higher torque output. Transmission options for the next generation model are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit, too. A four-wheel-drive option could also be on the cards.

New Mahindra Scorpio to be more POWERFUL than XUV500!

Next-gen-Mahindra-Scorpio-1.jpg

Mahindra is currently working on many next-generation SUVs for the Indian market. While we have already seen the all-new Thar testing under a heavy camouflage on the Indian roads, Mahindra is also working on the all-new Scorpio and all-new XUV 500. The brand recently launched the all-new Marazzo, all-new Alturas G4 and the all-new XUV 300 in the market. However, the future SUVs from Mahindra will get a brand-new, 2.0-litre diesel engine that is currently under development. This engine will make 160 BHP on the new Scorpio.

The next generation Mahindra Scorpio (Codenamed: Z101) has been caught testing near Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu.

The spy images suggest that the new Scorpio could get a lower roofline compared to the current model. The front appears to have a slatted Mahindra grille with wraparound headlamps on either side. This particular test vehicle does not seem to have a bonnet scoop. The SUV appears to have flared wheel arches and a slightly raked rear windshield.

Like the current model, the next-generation Scorpio is expected to be based on a ladder frame chassis. Reports suggest that it could be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 158 BHP. It is likely to be paired with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, while four-wheel drive could be available as an option.

There seems to be a major modification to the rear... The entire design looks a bit longer & more curved than the flat straight cut current design. May be to accomodate boot space?

Next Generation Mahindra Scorpio moving towards upmarket and more premium in quality and price as well as thats why its grown in size and current scorpio price segment is replace by TVU3OO plus.

So may be all new Scorpio price ranges from 12 to 16Lacks ex-showroom a very good alternator to XUV5OO and TATA Buzzard for people who want 7-seater rugged body on frame SUV.

Looks like Mahindra is in full mood to bring All New SCORPIO by 2020, just in 1-2 year. Mahindra does road testing for almost 5-6 years for new vehicle, 2-3 years for just a facelift with no core changes. This time they might testing it for 2 years on indian roads and then they will launch it.

It will be funny to see how it will work as we already know even after testing a vehicle for 5 years, Mahindra release vehicle's with isssue. At least for first three batches.

Adding few new photos of test vehicle as well as rendering by Cartoq.

2020 Mahindra Scorpio SUV test mule catches fire – Video

It’s not everyday a car catches fire. Even more rare is a test vehicle on fire. A video shows that a 2020 Mahindra Scorpio test mule has caught fire. At this point it would be pure conjecture as to why this Mahindra Scorpio caught fire. The video in question only documents the fire burning, and not how it started. With the launch of Scorpio BSVI variants impending, the auto manufacturer has been rigorously testing these vehicles in real world conditions.
