· Mahindra Marazzo to sport a unique shark-inspired design

· Collaborative engineering by Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai

· Collaborative design effort by Pininfarina and Mahindra Design Center

· To be commercially launched in Q2 of FY2019

Mumbai July 31, 2018: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), a part of the US $20.7 billion Mahindra Group, today named its eagerly awaited global model, codenamed U321, as Marazzo. Derived from Basque, a sub-language of Spanish, the word ‘Marazzo’ means shark and is linked to the vehicle’s shark-inspired design.

The Mahindra Design Studio and Italian design house Pininfarina have collaborated closely during the design development process -- as a result the Marazzo reflects a design language that is an integral part of Mahindra’s bold, new generation of vehicles. Its shark-inspired design is evident in the streamlined and aerodynamic shape, in the overall silhouette and in the front grille inserts which resemble shark-like teeth and adds to the vehicle’s aggressive stance. The design cues further flow into the tail lamps that are inspired by the tail of a shark.

Marazzo is a globally developed product, engineered through a collaboration between Mahindra North America Technical Centre (MNATC) and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The pedigree and global product development capabilities of the MNATC team of engineers and the young team of experts at MRV have been instrumental in bringing a new level of refinement and engineering excellence to this model. Marazzo comes with a patented architecture, for a unique balance of smooth ride, agile handling, space and quiet cabin.

Speaking at the name reveal, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, M&M Ltd. said, “The shark-inspired Marazzo symbolizes the next generation of aspirational Mahindra vehicles. A collaborative effort of Pininfarina, Mahindra Design Studio, MNATC and MRV, Marazzo is born of a vision to design a global vehicle with quality and refinement keeping in mind the aspirations of our customers.”

Rajan Wadhera, President Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd. said, “The intense process of development and refinement of the Marazzo is comparable to any global vehicle and incorporates a number of innovations. This has delivered better space, smoother ride with a quieter cabin, best-in-class cooling, excellent safety and a tough body construction in the Marazzo. Infact the Marazzo has the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) of any Mahindra vehicle. I am confident that it will set a new benchmark and become a game-changer in its segment”.

The Mahindra Marazzo has been benchmarked against global standards of quality, technology, testing and validation norms, safety, regulations and emission. It underwent the most rigorous testing any Mahindra vehicle has ever been subjected to. It will be manufactured at the company’s manufacturing facility at Nasik, in Maharashtra and is gearing up for a commercial launch before the end of Q2 FY2019.

Re: "Mahindra Marazzo, New MUV by Mahindra"

If Mahindra underpins the starting price of this MUV well below Hexa, which they will, then most of the takers for this MUV will be the cabbies which are looking to replace their now (un)reliable Chevy Tavera.
It seems that the guys at Mahindra research valley are quite confused with the offerings, the refreshed KUV didn't make any impact, the ugly TUV300 Plus are not finding any takers and now 3 more cars in the segment which the Mahindra is already present.
I say old chap, you seem to be an omniscient character! The 300 Plus has just begun deliveries & and you have already got a hot-line to the future sales chart![:D]
To me it seems the confusion lies elsewhere, not with M&M - they know very well what they are up against & have girded up in preparation.
Both the TUV 300 Plus & the Marazzo will prove resounding VFM products, knowing M&M's outstanding pricing strategy.

For me what is of paramount interest is whether the Marazzo -
a) Has a body-on-chassis structure - mandatory if it wants to take on the segment king, the Crysta.
b) Has FWD or RWD - again RWD (at least, if not AWD) would be mandatory (in this WB range) if it is to take on the leader.

Both these criteria (RWD & body-on-chassis) are invaluable for success - apart from the usual frills & candyfloss, which most other mfrs offer, hoping that the Indian buyer would be fooled. Recent examples which bit the dust being the Lodgy & the Captur/Kaptur from Renault.

It seems you got offended by my post. My apologies! Though, I stand by every word I said.

And seriously, Marazzo? No offence once again, but why to name it after Shark? Well, the interiors looks promising and it will be quite interesting to see the pricing of this car.

The full beige interiors is going tobe nighmare for owners to maintain and keep it clean if thats what the final product is going tobe as shared in one of the images.
With Mahindra lineup with Kuv,Tuv,Xuv ending with O,marazzo seems out of the sync with their portfolio names.

Ending with O has been Mahindra's naming strategy. Take Scorpio, Bolero, Xylo, Quanto, Verito,Supro, Genio, Jeeto for example. With the XUV also, they named it XUV-500, which is referred as XUV-5 double O. Same with TUV 3 double O and KUV 1 double O. Marazzo also ends with O so, I think it fits the naming strategy. Exceptions would be the Thar and NuvoSport.
O.T. To me Marazzo sounds more of a Pizza topping than a car name

Gurpreetji no offence taken & no apologies needed[:)] And seriously, why not Marazzo? I mean if all the prima donna Italians can name their exotics after hot winds & fighting bulls, why not a shark?
And I too am looking forward to the launch pricing and the tech specs (as mentioned in my earlier post) of the vehicle. A lot will depend on these factors.

Sir, Pricing & Performance indeed will be the major factor for this upcoming MUV. Being benchmark-ed with Crysta, I feel it definitely would have some substance to it and lets not forget that M&M and TML are two brands in India which have cemented their presence in the SUV segment of India with capable and tough SUVs like Safari, SUMO, Scorpio, XUV et al so definitely the new MUV shall be a capable one. Talking of the looks, though presently the full pics aren't there but if one has to compare it with the looks of Crysta Vs Hexa then it will certainly be an interesting thing. Personally for me, the front grill can be much better.

You tell us Sir, having a Scorpio with you, If given a choice to select between Crysta Vs Hexa Vs Marazzo Vs Captur or Lodgy. Which one will you pick?

Hi Akash! - it's great hearing from you again! And you are right, both TML & M&M have proved themselves to be perfectly capable of fighting their battles successfully in the marketplace. And despite the sniping & carping from some sections of the automotive fraternity, they seem both prepared - in their own ways - for the future.

Speaking for myself, I must admit that at the moment I am undecided. If the Marazzo does have the two attributes I mentioned in my earlier post (RWD & body-on-chassis) then its a no-brainer! I would unhesitatingly pick the Marazzo. But if the Marazzo comes with the usual monocoque/FWD set-up, my pick (from the choices you have given) would be the Hexa. The Crysta/Innova styling does not set the adrenaline flowing, let us say[:D]. And the Captur/Lodgy duo are just not in the picture.

Friends,

Official Image of Mahindra Marazzo shared by Team Mahindra.

Mahindra & Mahindra named its eagerly awaited global model, codenamed U321, as Marazzo.

Looking at this picture, it looks like there is very less or no space between door & seat. Your hands may not reach to door pocket when closed. Similar issue exists even on Scorpio driver seat. Doh!

2018 Mahindra Marazzo LED fog light DRL spied – More style than Toyota Innova Crysta?

Not only this, Mahindra says that the entire car is inspired by a shark. Front grille has shark like teeth, the long massive body is inspired by Shark’s muscular body, rear tail lights are inspired by shark tail. On the inside, you will find the instrument console with backlit inspired by hue from deep water, where the shark resides.

At the official name reveal, Mahindra did not reveal engine option. But they did say it is an all new engine. Reports suggest this could be a new 1.5 liter diesel engine, which will be powerful, yet fuel efficient. Transmission options on offer could include automatic as well as manual.

Expected to be priced in the Rs 10-15 lakh range, Mahindra aims to eat into the market share of Toyota Innova Crysta – which currently sells about 8,000 units a month.

Being a premium MPV, customers of Mahindra Marazzo will also be given a premium experience. Mahindra has revealed plans to setup a more premium zone inside their current dealerships. In this, they will offer their more expensive / premium cars like the Marazzo, upcoming XUV700 and probably the XUV500 too at some stage.

Set to be launched in the coming weeks, the new Mahindra MPV is a premium offering by the company. The USP, as per Mahindra – best in class ride quality and world class built quality. But is this enough to rattle the king in the segment – Toyota Innova Crysta? Well, Mahindra is confident.

New Mahindra Marazzo MPV 3 row 7 / 8 seats arrangement in official photos

India’s leading utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra has been absent from the new generation premium MPV space. The result, Toyota Innova Crysta and Maruti Ertiga taking over the market with record high sales. This is about to change as a new Mahindra MPV is ready for launch.

Upcoming Mahindra MPV has been christened as Mahindra Marazzo and is scheduled for launch before Diwali 2018. Ahead of that, Mahindra has revealed first images of the interiors of this MPV. According to Mahindra, the new Marazzo is their most spacious car as per square feet area.

From these new images, Mahindra shows us how the seating arrangement inside their new MPV would be. The seats will be offered in 7 / 8 seater arrangement, just like its rival Toyota Innova Crysta. Those who want the 7 seater option, get the more luxurious captain seats in the second row while those who opt for the 8 seater option, get the 3 row bench seat (40-20-40 split) in the middle row.

Be it the 7 seat or the 8 seat arrangement, in both cases, the 3rd row is accessible via folding of a seat in the second row. In case you do not want to use the 3rd row, it is foldable and can be used as boot. Mahindra has stated that the ingress and egress is easier, we will only be able to comment on the same once we actually try the same for ourself at the launch event.

Designed at Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, Michigan with help from Mahindra facilities in India, the Marazzo derives its name from a shark. Marazzo means Russian in Spanish.

Said to be based on a monocoque platform on a front wheel drive architecture, Mahindra MPV could be powered by the company’s new 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine. This new 121 hp 300 Nm engine has been developed in association with SsangYong and is said to be more fuel efficient than any Mahindra diesel engine till date.

Mahindra claims that the ride quality is best in class, while built quality is world class. Price is expected to be in the range of Rs 10-15 lakhs range. More details to be revealed closer to launch.
