Maruti Suzuki India to increase Car prices from April 2022

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker by volume, has announced that it will be increasing vehicle prices in April 2022. According to a regulatory filing on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the carmaker has planned this price rise sometime later this month. Maruti has not revealed the quantum of increase in prices, however, the company has said that the hike shall vary for different models. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has said that the increase in various input costs is the reason why it is increasing vehicle prices.

This is the second price hike announced by the company in 2022. Earlier in January, Maruti Suzuki increased car prices in India by 1.7 per cent across its model line-up. Back then too the company had cited rising input costs as the primary reason for the imminent price hike.

Force Gurkha price hiked, now costs Rs 14.49 lakh

20220412041913_Gurkha.jpg

Force Gurkha is now more expensive by Rs 39,000. The SUV was launched back in September 2021 and was priced at Rs 13.59 lakh. However, Force Motors did hike the price (by Rs 51,000) of the SUV in January 2022 to Rs 14.10 lakh. While it is not uncommon for manufacturers to hike prices at the start of the year, this current hike marks the second price uptick for the Gurkha in just a few months. Although the company hasn’t revealed the exact reasons, the hikes could be attributed to rising input costs and the semiconductor crisis.

Mahindra has become the latest carmaker to hike prices in the month of April 2022. The carmaker announced that effective April 14, the prices of all its cars and SUVs would be hiked by 2.5%. The carmaker said that this would entail a hike of between ₹ 10,000 and ₹ 63,000 depending on the model and variant. The company said that the price hike is owing to rising prices of raw materials necessitating measures to partially offset the cost.
