Re: Updates of Price Hike on Indian Cars

GM India to hike prices across vehicle range from October 1 Following the suit of Maruti Suzuki and Honda, the American automobile maker General Motors has also announced that it would increase the prices across all its models from October 1. However, it is yet to decide on the quantum of increase.

The reports quoted ,” P. Balendran, Vice-President, GM India as saying “We have decided to increase the prices of all models due to high input costs, currency fluctuation and freight costs.” GM follows car market leader Maruti Suzuki and Honda, both of which had announced a price increase earlier this week citing similar reasons. The rising cost of diesel fuel has led to higher transportation/logistics costs across the industry.

Audi has announced a price hike upto 5% applicable from Jan 2013. Here’s an official statement:
Perschke said:
The overall market scenario is challenging. The rise in input cost, depreciating rupee as well as continuous increase in fuel prices has made us re-evaluate our pricing strategy in India and increase the prices of the entire range.

Honda announces up to 1.65 % price hike on Brio and City from January 2013

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), a completely owned subsidiary of the Japanese auto giant Honda Motor Company, has declared to increase retail costs of its Brio hatch and City sedan with effect from January 2013. The company has affirmed that the slated price hike of its two products will fall in the range between 0.8 per cent and 1.65 per cent. The Japanese auto maker is the latest in line of several top auto players, who have announced to hike prices of their entire or limited product portfolio marketed in the country. The list is getting regularly appended and so far includes the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Mahindra and Mahindra Limited (M&M), General Motors India, Mercedes Benz India and BMW India

At present, Honda Brio hatch is offered to domestic consumers at a price range between Rs. 4.15 lakhs and Rs. 6 lakhs, while Honda City sedan comes in a price bracket of Rs. 7.3 lakhs and Rs. 10.6 lakhs in the country. Accordingly, post the effective hike from January 1, 2013, Honda Brio hatch could see an excess cost addition in the range between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 7,000. Similarly, Indian car enthusiasts could witness a price hike in a price range of Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 12,000 for their favourite sedan Honda City.

Interestingly, Honda Cars India has not revealed any intentions to increases prices of its less selling models like Jazz premium hatchback, CR-V compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and Civic luxury sedan. The Brio and City models are best selling products of Honda in the country, which is reason behind why the Japanese auto maker can afford to implement hike in their prices.
