I have the default Bridgestone 195/55 R16 tyres on my Verna and the two rear tires have become perfectly smooth after just 13,000 KM. I even rotated them after one year of use. Is it normal for tires to become useless so quickly? I’ve read in several places that 50,000 KM is the minimum any tires should last in normal use.

I need to change them now. What would be the best option? I just want to change the two rear tires. I’d appreciate a little more grip on the road because driving at speeds of over 100 KM/hr is very unnerving in this car. Thanks for the help, in advance.

Get 205/55/r16 bridgestone potenza G3 . Road noise is low , sporty design. Or ifyou want more sportier look go for 205/55/r16 yokohama S drive. But road noise is slightly higher.
Tires wont help for unnerving. Get buffers for all springs it will help a lot in handling. More details in this thread only.
Change all tires at once. Tire profiles are not similiar for stock tires and upgraded tires

Thanks. What will I do with the three remaining tires if I change them all? Is it better to just buy the two replacement ties from Bridgestone instead and be done with?

I'll look into the buffers too.

13k is low for the tyres to wear out. Post pics of rear as well as front tyres. It's odd since front tyres wear out faster than the rear tyres.

If you buy bridgestone, get the new tyres for front, shift the front tyres to the rear and chose the best tyre for the spare.

Hmm…maybe so. Still, it’s a pretty low distance for two tires to last. They are completely smooth, as if there were never any grooves in them at all. I’ll try to post some pictures later today if I can.

Thanks for all the advice. Going for a fancy tire upgrade will cost me upwards of Rs. 40,000 for five tires and I’ll be left with three perfectly usable tires that I wouldn’t know what to do with. Or I can just buy a couple of Bridgestone B290s for Rs. 14,500 and be done with it. Seems like the obvious choice.

I’ll see if I can get those buffers installed in my city though. If it can help even a little bit with the body roll tendencies, it will be Rs. 4,000 well spent.

Buy new tires and keep those for spare.
City doesnt have rolling tendancies , it's already little rough , upgrade will make it more. But it will reduce scrathing over the humps with more people in car.
Keep doing alignment and balancing at every 5k kms.

Does anyone have inputs regarding the Rogerab Spacers? It cost a whopping 8K to fit on all four suspensions and they claim to use polyurathane material similar to those used in Adidas Sport Shoes. I recently saw the Advertisement in the Autocar Magazine.
Dear itsrocktime,

Thank you for showing interest in ROGERAB.

Rogerab can be installed without removing any of the suspension parts within 15 to 20 minutes. Simple addition of shock absorbing Rogerab allows safe driving of Cars on rugged roads and also extending the life span of costly spring shock absorber.

Please note that ROGERAB is specifically designed for Indian road conditions and trust us you will enjoy this product to its fullest.

If you need any further assistance contact us at our Toll Free No. 1800 102 7414, we would be glad to assist you.

Thanks & Regards,
Team Roger

Hi Guys,

I have the Verna white colour, bought it a week ago and the first thing I wanted to do is put alloys. I didn't have budget for 16 inch tyre and alloys so I decided to go for the 15 inch alloys with the stock tyres. It was difficult to find 4 holes 100 PCD alloys but finally found 4-5 of them and I tried putting one of them. The problem is - Verna comes with 5.5/6J rims/alloys and all after market alloys are 6.5J which is 1 inch wider and once I put those alloys, the tyres were popping out a good half/1 inch out of the fender. It was looking ugly and I put back my old wheel caps and rims which is 15 inches 5.5J. Sad to mention, I had to pay 3k to not take the alloys after they had fitted it - bad day.

So, you will need to be very careful while choosing alloys. If the rim is 6.5J which is beyond Hyundai's specification then you will need a positive offset so that the tyre sits inside the fender and you don't have issues with body touching the tyres.

Considering 15 inch stock rims comes with 5.5J rims with center offset or zero offset which means from the point where the bolt is put, the tyre will protrude 5.5/2 = 2.75 inches from the bolt on point (this will keep the tyre inside the fender)
Now we want to put 15 inch after market alloys which is always around 6.5J so if the offset is zero then the tyre will protrude 3.25 inches from the bolt on position which is 0.5 inches more and this is what happened with my after market alloys. The front fender is too small to accommodate that extra half inch, so, to fit the 6.5J alloys, you will need positive offset so that the tyre goes inside the fender and the suspensions work perfectly without hitting the body. To compensate for that extra 0.5 inches, an alloy with offset of around 12.7 millimetres will balance it. Plati has alloys with 30, 35 and 42 offset. As per my calculation the 30mm one should fit the Verna perfectly. One more thing we need to check after fitting it is to check the steering wheel movement completely towards the dead left and right. That way we are sure that the tyre is not touching the suspension or any internal parts.
If the Hyundai tyres are not center or zero offset then the calculation will change accordingly.

Also, many people are going for broader tyres but they are not understanding the rim width plays a major role here. The stock 195/55 tyres are extremely broad and it should look really fat but the problem is the width of the stock alloys which is 6J. If you remove the tyres from the alloys, you will notice how wide the tyre is but as the width is 6J for the alloys, the tyre gets curved and the full flat surface is not seen and it looks narrow. If you fit the same 195/55 tyre on a 7J alloys, you will notice how fat it would look. So, people who are upgrading to broader tyres, it won't make much difference because the stock rims are only 6 inches wider and the tyre can't go beyond 6 inch width. If you force it on that rim then it will get curved and won't give you the fat look. If the tyre is curved, I would not suggest to go for such upgrades.

There are lot of technical aspects to it which must be seen in detail before fixing and after market parts. The people selling it don't have so much knowledge about offset or width, they will advice you to go for anything that has 4 holes and 100 PCD or multi hole (very ugly) even if it doesn't fit correctly. Spend your money wisely, I realized it only when I was looted by 3K[confused]

How are the buffers doing ? Still working like the first day or the bounciness increased ? There's a famous suspension mechanic nearby my home. I'm planning to take the car there and i know he'll have a solution for this problem or else will aks him to install these buffers.

Today i enquired from a shop , he told me he has coil pads which will increase the height (solution for body touching the boot , not my problem) he said it will help a little bit but not much. He didn't have buffers and said we'll fit it but i have to order it online. From where to buy these buffers ?

Good and informative thread by NEIL - thanks to you. After knowing your experience on spring buffer I am interested in installing them too. After Google I found out this website:
http://www.indisuspension.com/Increase-ground-clearance-of-hyundai-verna-new
They are selling urethane buffers for 9K for 4. Any idea about the authenticity of this website?

One more info. according to TBS (Technical Service Bulletin) Hyundai, they are replacing verna old suspensions (before 2014 model) with 2014 made suspension under warranty. Kindly check at your nearby SS.
