Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

I have been charged 23,646 for Insurance (default was Bharti Axa but I got it changed for ICICI Lombard for the same price). Is the price too high? I have no clue about Insurance prices.

Hi GrandRk and Parth1231
Is your insurance bumper to bumper insurance? I asked my sales person and she told me that 2 times a year i can claim bumper to bumper and insurance will pay 100% for plastic components as well. normally they pay 50%- 55%. That's the reason for higher insurance price. Your views?

Hi GrandRk,
i will check the IDV and let you know. Did you take the insurance through the dealer? I knew it would be cheaper outside but I didn't wan to go for that.

Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

ashurd10,
Insurance should be around 16-19K depending on your negotiating skill. Never buy insurance from dealer , they get fat margins on it. They will try to bluff , intimidate by saying dealer has tie-up , special consideration , fast settlement ...blah blah. By the way if they come to know you are not buying insurance from them they will become highly agitated and unresponsive.

When we bought the car extended warranty I think it was around 4-6k. As mentioned in earlier post "Extended warranty" applies only to engine and suspension. It is of not much benefit, chances of engine failing after 2 years is pretty less. As for as suspension is concerned they might use every dirty trick to void it. Best thing is try it as a bargaining chip, get free/discounted extended warranty [:D] (Newly launched car no discount/free accessories but something else...). It is something like insurance, only company benefits from it. If you plan to upgrade your car later after 2/3 years its avoidable expense.

Yes, mine is bumper to bumper and i have taken it from dealer. I have searched online myself as well and the difference was coming to Rs.500 - 600 so gone with dealer [glasses].

Please take time and once in a while go through entire terms & conditions of your insurance, dont rely on dealer or any sales person.

Yeah. That's why I wanted to take insurance from the dealer itself. But still 23600 is too high I guess. How much did you pay and from which dealer?

Agreed. Warranty of only Engine and Suspension doesn't seem worth it. I am very bad at bargaining. I have already made the full payment. [frustration]. Should have checked it properly. Still it's the highly priced insurance which is bothering me more.

Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

I paid 16.5k (zero dep)(21.5 dealer quote) from tata-aig. Bajaj quoted around 19k. You can take quote from policybazaar/respective insurance company portals. Dealing directly with them eliminates commission for middle-man hence lower rates. Normally insurance company provide a quote X and if customer does not take it then provide a discount of 15-25%. 23k is the max for that IDV so even if you get a discount of 20%-15% it will be around 18k. I never informed the dealer that I will be buying it myself. The dealer was so smart he only gave me the engine number and not full VIN while booking. After lot of protesting he allowed me have a look (no inspection/PDI!) at the vehicle and let me check the mileage. Then I took a snap(without his knowing) of VIN number which was pasted on the door glass. They do this as complete VIN is need to buy the insurance.

Then came the worst part , when I went to pay the full amount and informed him that insurance is not needed he started a big argument. "Sir you can do this" you need to buy insurance from us ...blah blah. Then he said insurance was already bought. Huh , how I asked him when he had informed us vehicle regn, insurance, release will only happen after full amount is paid. After some coercion and he accepted it. The dealer got his revenge by delaying vehicle delivery to sunday instead of friday ,gave me some randomly picked regn number and a plastic number plate. Further more I was forced to give in writing stating that I am buying insurance on my own and they are not responsible for it![shock].

Remember you are paying another 8-6K as handling charges which is nothing but another swindling charge.
Total ripoff = 5k (insurance) + 8k (handling charges) + 4k (extended warranty) + 1k (Accessories this includes mud flaps !, bargain it will be free) = 18k
If you go for loan, finance companies waive of first emi but most people are not aware of it. So part of it goes to dealer along with one month EMI as his commission. (Ever wondered why he is interested in getting you a loan ?)

Total rip off= 23k average, you cannot avoid it but can lessen it. If he pressurizes you , you can complain to hyundai. (This is one of the questions asked by hyundai CRM ppl on buying experience (yeah after getting ripped off)).

Re: My Hyundai Grand i10 Asta (O) Petrol Ownership Review

Sorry forgot the dealer. I bought it from blue hyundai Basvangudi, would surely avoid them. You have only four dealers and they are equally bad one or the other way. Two of them are known quantities (Advaith,Trident) and other two unknown (blue, lakshmi (never heard of them)).
Want more choices try Maruti !. I some times wonder why automobile companies crib about having low sales when they are represented by bad dealers and indulge in total ripoff.
