Some time back I had the same problem. I just sprayed HIT inside the bonnet in the night, and kept a small bit of cotton waste, sprayed HIT on it, repeated this for few days and it never came after that.

I will suggest an even more cheaper solution, spray & sprinkle a little kerosene wherever you find rats & repeat it alternate days for a week or two & it won't come back.

The beauty about the kerosene solution is it works in repelling pretty much all kinds of pests & insects & reptiles & even termites & snakes however for a limited amount of time say 48 to 72 hours. But if you use it use it regularly then you might be able to get rid of the problem permanently.

However be CAREFUL as humans should not inhale kerosene or its spray as it is very harmful, EVEN fatal!

Kerosene might be available in grocery shops in rural & semi-rural areas at non-subsidized rates if you don't know where to get it.

Saw a rat entering the engine bay of my car this Monday. This is what I did

1. Sprayed Concentrated Phenyl (Brown Coloured one) on all the tyres and around the car.
2. Sprayed Concentrated Phenyl inside the engine Bay
3. Tied 8 to 10 Napthelene balls inside the engine bay at various places.

Since Monday I have not seen the rat coming back and do not see any excreta of his beneath the car so hopefully the rat is not coming back.

Yes, kerosene also will serve the purpose. But HIT is more strong and again it is kerosene based I think. But we should be careful, all these are flammable.

Don't know about rats but this would repell passengers for sure due to smell. If it is sprayed or sprinkled in engine bay possibility of fire can't be ruled out.

I thought the passenger cabin is usually properly insulated from the engine bay else would the AC work? [;)]

BTW this was a suggestion for the engine bay only & not where the humans ride! can be done when the car is parked for the night etc should evaporate in a few hours but yes smell will remain which should be effective to keep pests away. Yeah there is always a risk of something or the other in life[:)].. all the other fluids & the fuel itself is mostly inflammable. My Car wash service center does a Diesel spray all over the car including the engine bay & bottom chassis & other areas after the wash to avoid rust & I have never thought of it as a risk!

From where does the AC aspirate the air when put on ext. mode?

Kerosene is more inflamable than diesel. And service center guys know where to spray exact ly than we owners IMHO.
And fuel is safe when it's in side the fuel system and not outside IMO.

Hi Guys,
The same issue risen in our apartment too. Rats bitten 3 cars (Fiesta/Vento/WagonR).. But by God's Grace Linea escaped, but i dont know how it happened.
Vento total repair cost was around 4000 INR and time frame is 10 days for the hoses and wiring set.

What is the solution for this. Suggestions were given but whether its tested. Is it worth to use Kerosine?

Park your vehicle away from any drains and gutters,or any area with lots of waste.
Get Your engine bay thoroughly washed first, with soap and diesel. After that keep some naphthalene balls in and around engine bay. This might solve your problem, worked at my end.

Rats chewed off my speedo meter cable of my scorpio and some cables were half bitten. They were pack rats(bigger ones with big black eyes), while researching got to know they love jumping, twists, and destroying our assets.
Tried some areas cleaning with diesel to remove their traces- failed.
Used moth balls- failed.
my garage is closed one, so decided to trap them, dont use ratkill they will die places hard to find, finally trapped 18 rats(maybe whole family). Solved the problem for now(fingures crossed).

In my humble opinion, it is safe to install ultrasonic repellent which is like any other extra car accessory. This repellent produces very high pitch ultrasonic sound (Above 80 decible, which should be like blaring truck horn or drillers) produced above 20 KHZ (which is above human hearing range, so absolute silence for humans.

The rats might get very irritated and avoid the car engine area. This method seems to easy and permanent.

The power consumption is very negligible (which is less than <60mW) claimed by the company websites which are selling these products.

There are popular brands selling online and offline in India. I see some Money back guarantee offers also. My close friend is using this product, it is absolutely working for him.

Hi drsathya,
We too planned for a Cat sound mechanism which will produce a cat sound every 10 minutes. This is just to stop the Rats not entering our Parking bay. This we plan to design it as a separate mechanism which we can carry. (Operated through the Remote Battery Cell).. I am not good in Electrical works, So told my idea to friend who is already started the work.
I dont think this may cost more. Once done i will post the picture and the overall cost.

How about putting stickers like this. Cheap and easy.
Cannot get rid of all rats, but at least law abiding literate rats will keep away from your cars.
