Hi Gdave,
Firstly many congrats on coming into the Honda family. I had a few observations:
> Your car film prices seem quite high, thats because I got garware HP35 sunfilm done for back n sides @3500 bucks. I'm not sure as to why this huge price difference as because my Jazz has a huge glass area too, maybe slightly less than the city but still the price difference is huge.
> I loved the pics of your trips. The car looks heavenly in those kind of surrondings. But i noticed in your Athirappilly trip the car didn't have the front LED lights as shown in your first set of pics. Did you take them out? They are mainly for show, right? Do they aid in visibility?
> The FE that you have been getting is quite good I must say, cause I've been getting around 13 in my jazz in city & got about 16 in highways with full load & AC.

Cheers

Thanks Jazzy

Actually I was planned to put 3M RE Series. But when I inquired about that, It was not available in any of the shops.

The next option was Garware.
I couldn't find HP 35 anywhere in my place.

I asked 3-4 places for the Ice cool grand and found that it is the cheapest among offered.

And this HP 35 is it coming above or below which I am having?
They had Ice cool series, NF series, Some other series ( I don't remember name)

I am not satisfied with the work. I can find more bubbles here and there, mostly on the rear window adjacent to tail lamp. ( He said it is very difficult to put their hands there) and he also mentioned it will be gone after 3-4 days.

I did not put film on the front. I think City's windshield covers larger area than that of Jazz. ( But its not gonna make any difference in the price)

I had placed DRL after the Athirappilly Trip that is the reason you can not find it there.
Yes I am still having the DRL s on.

I fixed it from a local shop. It is not a well known brand. But it has 5 extremely bright LED's with dedicated reflectors. These are coming with separate wiring kit. I can tell you the brightness is very very high so we can not use it in the night time. ( It might blind someone)
It is coming in pairs with holding brackets. The angle can be changed even after fixing it since it is coming with a tilt able bracket.
Color temperature is 6000K. So its little blueish. I liked it more if it is poor white.

I got it installed for Rs: 3000/- Including work charge.
The same item is available in the online market with reduced price. The reason why I had gone for this is because of the fixing. I don't want to put my hands on the new car. :)

Actually the connection should be like this
When we turn ON the ignition it will automatically get lighten and when we put the Park light/ Head light, it will get dimmed so that it can be used in the night time for the look.

For my car I took the connection directly from the battery with a switch because I did not want to alter the OEM wiring. And we can use it whenever we want it.

We can not use it for fog lamp purpose for driver visibility. But oncoming vehicles can easily identify us even in the daytime. That is the main purpose

When somebody is coming from opposite side the first thing they will notice be these DRL's

Thanks a lot buddy, for all the info. Firstly, 3M was also my first choice but I couldn't get it in Kolkata too. The dealer told me that HP (High Performance 35) is where the Garware line ends. I'm quite satisfied with the installation though. You can check my pics in my ownership review section.

Now, regarding the DRLs, you did a good thing by putting up the pics, I got the company name too. I couldn't understand one thing, you are saying they are extremely bright yet you said that they cannot be used as fog lamps. Whys that so? If they are tiltable, they can be pointed downwards hence should not affect oncoming traffic, right? Are they made of glass or plastic? Whats the life of these DRLs & do they come with warranty? What if you were to go through a waterlogged road, wll these survive the onslaught?

Your connection is directly from battery so I guess your Honda warranty stays intact as theres no messing around with wires? You said its controlled by a switch, so you may opt to keep it on or off during day/night?

I'm sory if I'm bothering you with too many questions, but I want to be absolutely sure before I get it done on my Jazz! I've asked a dealer here, he said the range starts from 2500 & goes upto 10000 bucks for the Philips LED8.

Cheers

No probs with questions. Because I also had so many confusions regarding this before. It is my pleasure to share my experiences.

I said it is very bright because they are really bright. If we stare at those LED for 3-4 sec and you will feel irritated and might cause you headache. During night if the DRL is on with out head lamps, from the driver seat, you can not see much light on the road. But if you get out of the car and have a look, you can see the things on the road with its light.

I think its because of the color temp. Usually it is desirable for the fog lamps to be little yellowish to see clearly the road. Since my DRL is a little bluish, we can not see its light properly. This is my finding.

The main reason why I avoided HID/Projectors is poor vision on rainy days.

The casing and holding bracket are made of metal and the transparent portion is plastic. In the shop I found some cheaper DRL also. It is having lesser brightness and more bluish. They told for those cheaper DRL, there is chance for water entrapping inside. For what I have, it might not happen.

Philips DRL is coming with one year warranty. Mine is not having any warranty. But it is still working with out any problems until now.

I usually switch it ON during day time. During night time when it is time to use the head lamps, I switch the DRL's OFF. (Sometimes I will forget to switch it OFF while parking during daytime. Since the LED use less power compared to Park lights, It might not drain the battery I hope. It never happened to be turned on more than 15 minutes during parking time)

And these DRL's are giving a unique look from other city's roaming here and there in my place.[thumbsup]

Any way this week end I am planning for a trip to 'Munnar', hill station. So I'll try if it is giving any fog lamp effect.

Hi Gdave,
Thanks for all the info once again. Now I'm quite clear about it. Basically its for show & somewhat for safety. I'll go for the one within 3k range with white light prefereably. One more question, Can't the connection be linked with ignition? I mean even if i forget to switch of the DRL, it should get switched off if I turn off ignition, instead of draining baterry!

Cheers

Then you might have to remove insulation from OEM wires.
It might not give much problems. But if something went worst with wiring, then you will not get warranty!
I'll change it to ignition after 2years only.

Actually the connection will be to the ignition and another to the park/Head lamp wiring, so that once the ignition is On, the DRL will glow and if you turn ON park/head lights, the DRL will turn OFF/DIM according to the DRL wiring configuration.( In Philips DRL the DRL gets OFF) ( Ignition should be on. If it is in OFF position DRL will not work at any case for this configuration)

Please don't buy these Chinese DRl's.
Today when I turned the switch I was shocked. ( I used to get if it is working by looking at the reflection of LED from the fronting vehicle) [surprise] Only 3 are working out of 10.
Its hardly one month since I bought it. Rs: 3000/- full waste. And it had not rained since.

For those who are interested in DRL's please go for cheaper ones around 500/- or Philips DRL's with 1 Year warranty.

My next step was to the accessory shop from which I got it. He said tomorrow he will do the free service for the DRL. :(

Dear friends I am planning to put fog lamp. ( I dont want to put the OEM fogs).
Can any body suggest which will give the best result without losing the elegant look of the car?

I heard of Hella. Is there any other good brands? Can somebody help me out?

Will it look nice if I mount on the front bumper in front of radiator vents?

my 2 cents, please fit it in the original space provided - the radiator vent mounted lamps wont look good in a classy car like honda city, so dont spoil it - let it retain its natural charisma.

HI GDave, This is precisely what I was thinking about. I am probably going for the PhilipsLED4 which will suit my budget. There's no point thinking about these cheaper ones & regretting later. Thanks for the info though...
