Honda Working on a Brio Based MUV

Brio-7-Seater.jpg

The Amaze sedan isn’t the only Brio hatchback based car that will be seen bringing in quite a few sales to the popular Japanese car maker. As has been known since some time, the Brio MPV will come the second Brio based car for Southeast Asian markets like Indonesia and India.

The Honda Brio based MPV will be first launched in Indonesia and will come to us a few months later. The Brio MPV will be seen battling it out against the likes of Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia and the very popular Suzuki Ertiga that has been putting on a good show in every car market it is sold in.

In the fast developing Indian market, the Brio based MPV will lock horns with the high selling Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the soon to be launched Chevrolet Enjoy. Another car that might join this equation in near future is the seven seater version of the Ford B-Max.

Mr. Jonfis Fandy, director of marketing and aftersales service at PT Honda Prospect Motor recently told Indonesian media that the Brio based MPV will come with a competitive price tag and will be seen making its public debut by April next year. He also said that the west Java facility will be ready by then and the construction work is at full swing at the site. He also said that there is a possibility of the Brio MPV hitting the market much before the April 2014 deadline.

The Brio MPV will borrow a lot of components from the Amaze sedan and will share the lengthened wheelbase. Other components that the two Brio based vehicles would be seen sharing are the dashboard assembly, front doors, door pads and seats.

Powering the Brio based MPV will be the same 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine that has made its debut with the Honda Amaze.

Honda Brio MPV Design released

The Brio-based MPV will be a 7 seater, and Honda's man-maximum-machine-minimum philosophy is expected to come to the fore in order to liberate copious room on the inside. The Brio-based MPV could share its engines with other Honda cars. The 1.5 liter i-VTEC petrol motor has been confirmed for the MPV while India is expected to get the 1.5 liter i-DTEC turbo diesel motor as a staple offering.

The usage of the 1.5 liter i-VTEC motor on the Brio MPV also seems to suggest that the car could measure over 4 meters in length. If the latest Honda MPV indeed measures over 4 meters in length, the car will be the largest model on the Brio platform. Honda is expected to launch the Brio-based MPV in the Indian car market sometime in the middle of 2014. Expect the car to rub shoulders with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in terms of price and positioning.

A high level of localization, in order to keep costs low is very likely. Honda's other plans for next year include the 2014 next generation Jazz hatchback and the all new City sedan. Notably, all new compact car launches from Honda in India will come with diesel power, and this is quite a departure for a brand which until recently relied on an all-petrol car line up.

Re: Honda Brio MPV Design released

Another ertiga in the making from honda now, as what maruti did with their swift sisters to stretch out for their MUV, honda too would mull in for sure, hopefully with better and more powerful engine that they are planning for their jazz and city variants in diesel with these upcoming MPV.
Any idea about the name they are planning to for this vehicle?

Not yet. It is said to make its official debut at the 2013 Indonesian International Motor Show, scheduled to be held in September. May be revealed by then.

A high level of localization, in order to keep costs low is very likely. Honda's other plans for next year include the 2014 Jazz hatchback or FIT (whatever they call it) and the all new City sedan. Will be a tricky situation for honda to price them keeping in mind, Amaze still new in the market.

Got this pic from a blog
WOW!!!
That says "FIT". This jazz is not a mere hatchback now. Neither is it a premium MUV. Whole new segment all together. looks extremely aggressive. Hope HONDA doesn't do the Jazzy mistake with this FIT. Pricing to be seen with a bunch of new honda models queued up for 2014 release

Upcoming Honda Brio Amaze MPV to compete with the Maruti Ertiga

After launching the compact entry level sedan Amaze, which affected the market of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda is planning to introduce a new Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) in the Indian auto market. A sketch of the Brio Amaze based MPV was released by Honda, which is generating a lot of buzz and excitement from car enthusiasts. The upcoming model from the Japanese auto maker is scheduled to be unveiled at the 21st Indonesia International Motor Show, which will be held in Jakarta in September.

Post launch, the model will square off against the likes of Maruti Ertiga, a seven seater utility vehicle that has done fairly well in the Indian auto market. Honda is hoping to market the Brio Amaze MPV in the same manner as it promoted the Amaze sedan. The new model will be specially developed to match the demands of Asian market. It must be noted that this development happens to be a venture between Honda R&D Asia Pacific Company Limited and P.T. Honda R&D, which are based in Thailand and Indonesia, respectively.

This Amaze based MPV is set to be the first car in the entry level MPV segment for the Japanese auto giant in India. Featuring a sporty appearance, the car is expected to be a seven seater model, which will sport a number of comfort features. Some of the key highlights that are visible in the sketch include a low slung roof and an elongated wheelbase. Although interiors of the car are not clear enough, the MPV, as per industry experts, will be spacious, comprising three rows and have sufficient boot space.

Sources close to the development process started that the 2014 Honda Amaze Brio MPV is going to be the first car to be rolled off the assembly lines of company's Karawang plant. For the Indian auto market, the MPV is likely to come in both diesel and petrol variants. After the Indonesian launch, the new MPV is expected to be unveiled at the January 2014 Auto Expo in India.

“Honda LMPV Concept will be a special product for Honda in Indonesia because it is specifically designed to suit the needs of consumers and the character of the road in Indonesia. Honda LMPV Concept will also be produced in Indonesia, and became the first product of the new Honda factory in Karawang which we plan to begin operating in early 2014, ” said Tomoki Uchida, President Director, PT Honda Prospect Motor.

I think the first photo and photos on first page in this thread are incorrect. What Honda has announced is it will be bring a car based on current Brio. The front look will sure look like Brio/Amaze and will have streached back to accomodate 7 People.

In India, they'll have to give ABS+EBD in manual trims too. Honda has a tradition of giving basic safety features in all trims. Moreover Ertiga top end already has it.

The exterior resembles boxy and worser than Chevy Enjoy. But interior looks amazing (especially the last row split seats and middle row captain seats).

The exterior looks are subjective. Some like it and some don't. I am very keen to see the rear of this. Will they follow the same "hate it or love it" concept?
