70,000 Kms Update
It's been a surprisingly merry full experience with my amaze rather excluding some of the initial hiccups like the Diesel NVH and the Brake pad wear issue. We both had many awesome memories to cherish, numerous number of long trips and the infinite daily drives. So I think it's the best time to update my views of the car, since it's been with me for around 3 years and 7 months and around 70k Km's on the odo.
Drivability :
With the stock 175/65/14 tires, the low end grunt was so much. In turn that's what resulted in an accelerated brake pad wear out. The low end pull was very strong that it keeps on crawling. The OE tires do no justice to the capabilities of the car. The ABS kick in feel on panic braking was horrible too, the whole cabin used to shiver like anything on hard braking. But after changing it to 205/50/15, the crawl has been very subtle. The car has a lot more grip around corners and the ABS kick in feel is now restricted to the pedal only rather the whole cabin. I must say shodding in new tires was one of the best things that I've ever done :)
Fuel Efficiency :
I've been constantly getting around 19-20 kmpl and the worst around 15ish on heavy b2b traffic. Tankful of fuel can run around 520+ kms. I used to drive sedately during the initial months of ownership and considering that I'm a heavy footer now
Attaching a picture of my FuelLog. It has fuel data from Day 1 till now.
Braking:
I have a strong feeling that after upgrading from the stock MRF's braking has improved to a whole new level. I used to get ASB kick in almost on all hard braking then and now, not even a single time now. The bite is pretty strong for the speed's it can handle and bite is quite progressive. Brake pad wear is so much controlled now. Honda has done some changes in the pad composition and now it last much longer with very less brake dust. The first set of brake pads had horrible brake dust !!
Suspension:
The only thing that I feel it could have been better is this. The suspension feels so stiff/hard over bad patches of road. Every gutter/bad patch finds it's way into the cabin. I felt I can feel the patches quite sharp. It's maybe because I'm running on 50 section rubber. But no leaks/ damages to the suspension, whatsoever. I think the suspensions best tuned for the OE section tires and if you mess that up, this will be the result
Service :
All services was done at Peninsular Honda, Trivandrum. I personally go down, wait for the car to get the things done and drive back home. I don't know if it's because of that or not, they have been really good with my car. All service costs come around 3k-5k and that's pretty reasonable. The only time it goes near 6k-7k range is when the brake pads are changed. Pretty much happy with that too.
What I love :
- Torqueir engine.
- Fuel Efficient.
- Reliable till date.
- Handling is good with the wider section tires.
- Humongous Boot
What I Hate :
- Even though it's damped all 4 doors and hood, engine noise still peaks in at times.
- Lazy looking dash comparing to it's new Face lift.
- Electronically Restricted Speedo.(It isn't a big thing and I rarely do these speeds, but at sometimes it does irritate me!
- Suspension comfort with the low profile tires(blame me for that)
- Lack of genuine accessories like the one's that comes for City and Jazz!
