Re: Xenons HID Lamps Thread

@Supravin - I have got mixed reactions when it comes to using higher rated bulbs. I had personally used Osram Cool Blue (90/100w) before on my swift without any problems. But on the long run it can/may fade the reflectors. Another option would be to use Aux lights. But these will be expensive, say around 5k (starting) for the kit but definitely worth the cash.

How can you get the "Angel-eyes" type of configuration in an HID installation ? Is it the normal setup or is it tuned like that ?? I asked a fellow for HIDs and he told me that the setup would be around 20,000 INR for Philips. (10,000 for the Upper point and 10,000 for the Dipper point). How is this possible when my car or for that matter most of the cars have ONE bulb with two filaments for both upper and dipper points ??
What output of light does a Philips HID kit give? Is it 4300K or 6000K ?
I have also heard from so many places about borrowing old reflectors from SKODA cars/ other cars for an HID installation... What is that about ??
What is the difference between Xenon/Bi-Xenon ??
Is it possible to get Bi-Xenon Setup in cars like Swift etc.? Is Bi-Xenon anything to do with "Angel-eyes" ?

CONFUSED !!!

Angel eyes are generally fitted on the projector shrouds. If not then they can be pasted on the reflector of normal headlights w/o projectors!

Ya he told the correct thing, but I guess he has not seen your verna till now. Your verna will need a single bulb.

It depends on which you have choosen. The temperature is marked on the bulb.

Frankly speaking this thing is new to me.

What is the difference between Xenon/Bi-Xenon ??

A Xenon bulb is with single filament. It is used in cars which has seperate bulbs for high and low beams. Bixenons are used for the ones which have same headlight for high and low; eg verna and swift.

Guyz correct me if I am wrong...

Thanks for the information.. I have now got a lot of my doubts cleared on HIDs. Hey tell me bro, if a vehicle like Swift or Verna for that matter uses the "Bi-Xenon" scheme, then I guess the work will be done at half the cost [:D]. 20K/2= 10K INR ... Hmmm not bad.

Tell me one thing bro, is it worth installing HIDs for 10K ?? Look good they certainly do.... don't they [;)]?
How does one go about the HID installation? Example as in the case of diamond vision 5000K Bulbs, one has to just replace the stock bulbs with the new ones. How are HID installations done? A long, complicated process, is it??

Thanks and cheers !!

Re: Xenons HID Lamps Thread

HID installation isnt complicated. Only difference is you will need to fix the ballast somewhere in the engine bay, preferably on the sides. Also great care should be given while fixing the HID's. You SHOULD NOT touch the sides of the HID.

If you use a projector setup, it's worth the cash. In other words, normal bulbs wont work well in projectors.

4300k HID's will give the best visibility range.

Ballast will be fixed in the engine. There must be space in the engine to do so. No issues. Not touch the side of the HIDs ??? Didn't get you.. the bulb you mean... Will keep that in mind.
And what is meant by a projector setup ?? The entire reflectors of the car are replaced by projectors ? Hmm... What about using HIDs in the current reflector setup by just switching to HID bulbs?
Infact, I was quite inspired in switching to HIDs when gears1313 told me that I have the "Bi-Xenon" arrangement, ie, same bulb for upper and dipper. And inspired too by the HIDs of your Swift. They look nice [thumbsup]...

I think getting HIDs fitted in my car will cost me around Rs.10000 then, being just one HID bulb set.

Re: Xenons HID Lamps Thread

What all do I have to exactly buy for an HID conversion ??
Is it just a set of 4300 K HID bulbs and ballast ? I have also heard something called an HID Converter Kit in Philips. What does that "Kit" include ? Approx. price ?
Sorry for so many questions bros, but you know, sometimes dealers and automobile boutiques try to cheat one into doing something which is profit for them and absolutely not required for one's car...

Thanks and cheers !!

H4 bulbs are bi xenon , like in your car. It has both low and high beam .

For cars like the indigo/marina , fiesta etc where 2 headlamp doom are there in a one assy. they have different bulb . Hid are available in that bulb version.

Normally in the above case people go for hid in low beam and normal halogen in high beam.
What about a car which has H4 holder ? Once you fit the H4 HID bulbs with a pair of ballasts, both the upper and the dipper have High Intensity Discharge ??

Yes the cost of bixenons eg: H4 and foglamps eg: H11/H3/H7 are similar. Thats the reason I got those for the headlamps only. Simply spending so much for the foglamps was useless I think.

The installation depends on car to car. If you have changed to dimond vison recently and you didnt find any difficulties in doing so; then installing HIDs is also not a tough task. Just fitting the bulb; connecting the wires and connetcing them to the battery; thats it.

Blaster needs to be fitted somewhere behind the fender where there is space and NOT TO/ON THE ENGINE![:D]
Projectors are round setps which you find in skodas; BMWs, Audis etc. just flip back pages of this thread you will understand the difference. Also Naveen has a projector setup, whereas my car has bixenon HID setup.

Just go for Bixenon HID conversion kit H4. This includes a pair of H4bixenon bulbs; a pair of Ballasts; a pair of stand/holder for the ballast; a normal wiring which needs to be connected to the battery of your car and to the original bulb plug of your headlight; thats it.

Thanks a LOT !!! you have cleared my remaining doubts [:)]
Automobile part/accessory dealers tend to cheat sometimes.... Now, I won't be ignorant.

Re: Xenons HID Lamps Thread

I meant, not to touch the bulbs.
Ballast should be fixed somewhere in the engine bay (no on the engine). Like gears mentioned, there will be enough space on the fender in the engine bay compartment.

Projectors can be fitted onto the stock reflectors. It wont replace the whole reflector part. Will have to cut and fix it. In my case, I dont have reflectors, it's just projectors since it came as a ready made kit.

The HID kit will contain:
1) Pair of HID bulbs
2) Pair of Ballasts
3) Wiring Harness
4) mounts and nuts/screws

HID kits will start from 6k. Philips will come close to 10k. I use Auto Gauge HID kit which came around 7.5k.

Refer few pages back for a DIY of bolt on projectors.

Please see pic of my ballast installed in the engine bay.

Re: Xenons HID Lamps Thread

once the new wiring (available with the HID kit) is fixed from the bulb to the ballast/battery, what about the existing wiring of the bulbs ?

The stock wiring will be connected to this. Its a plug n play kit and it will be fixed to the stock lighting wires and fixed onto the ballast and battery.

I see... Good then, as I didn't want any of the stock wiring of my car to be cut/tampered with.... I'll go through the pages before this :)
I think you guys have explained the installation well there

Thanks and cheers ! [thumbsup]

If i get an H4 Bi-Xenon HID kit, and an HID kit for my foglamps too, will the battery not get drained out getting so many HIDs fitted ? (2 main lights +2 fogs) ? That means 2 pairs of ballasts will have to be fitted in the engine bay ??
Will it all be OK ? Still, I think its an expensive proposition for the fogs !![frustration]
