March 2022 - Installed the Fog Lamps, Finally

Bought back in September 2020 and sitting somewhere in the parts bin and finally ready for install. Recap here.

/QUOTE]
I have installed similar Globex fog lamps in our Chevrolet Sail with 55W H3 bulbs. The Sail had H8 35W bulbs as stock. Do you know any 35W H3 bulbs? So far I have only seen Hella, but it is not in stock. The stock alternator is some 14V 85A. I guess it can give an output of close to 1000W. Is it ok to run on 55W bulbs?

Never seen 35W H3 in recent times, they were common back in the era of the ₹100 Autopal foglamps. Estilo got only a 60 Amp alternator and things are going fine without any drama (for 15 years). Indeed, we used to run this 55W along with 100/90W.

Problem would never be the alternator. Either fog housings would fade or Sockets / wires would overhear.
I used custom wiring with a relay. Wires can take the load. But the housing and the glass get extremely hot to touch, I think it can easily break during a rain.

Used in rain as well, nothing happened [cheers]. Indeed, none of the sets used so far cracked in rain. All of them had 55W and all of them broke on impact or damaged with rust.

March 2022 - Angel Turns 15 - Time for Fitness Test

Got it painted for fitness test. A decent quick coat plus polishing done at a more than reasonable rate of ₹10,000.

2022-03-12 17-58-28.jpg

Done at Murali's, near Choozhampala. Our usual paint guy has been testing our patience lately with a botchy job and insane delays with the last two jobs. Came to know about this guy through my friend Arun Kannan, a silent TAI reader, who helped with the intro and gave live WIP updates. Mr. Murali was a guy in his 50s and was very open to our suggestions and not bossy. He even suggested coming by anytime and supervise the job. Rates were nice and finishing was great, more than what I expected for the price. Returned the car in three days as promised.

Rolling home after the job.

At safe house.

Installed the beading. It was super tight and didn't need the clips to install.

Installed new wheel nuts. He gave me options for rim colour as well, gloss or matt black, OE finish silver or light titanium. Chose to stick with matt black.

Installed new number plates.

2022-03-13 08-34-44.jpg

New bolts.

The morning of the test, last minute prep. Passed without much drama. Safe for five more years. Retest fee was ₹ 755.00, which increased just a week later in April. Process was smooth. Took around an hour at the RTO inspection site.

Tried replicating my favourite snap of the Angel. Same spot, almost same angle. Almost everything in the background changed.

Congratulations on your so much effort and patience with this car. And it shows clearly. The way you keep your car. And the way you go out of the way to maintain it, spic and span. It's inspiring, really!!
This car is lucky to have you to take care of it.

April 2022 - Added OE Fog Lamp Switch

This was a long pending add-on. Current after-market switch's backlit fused out, making an excuse to replace the switch. Inquired with MGP during last part hunt, but they didn't have one in stock anywhere. Got it from Boodmo. Part shared with Ciaz, Ertiga, S-Cross, Swift, etc.

Front Fog Lamp Switch Assembly - 37270M79M00 - ₹ 230.00 + ₹ 25.00 Shipping.

April 2022 - VXi Sun Visor

The passenger-side sun visor was broken and would fall off if messed with. Spotted VXi visor with mirror on Boodmo and ordered along with the foglamp switch.

Very nice DIY oil change. And for once, recommended spec oil, thank God for that.
In one of your pics, your drive belt appears soaked with oil. That shouldn't happen. Please be careful there.
