Good to hear about such a TRIP.

Suggestion:
- Keep 5 Ltrs Petrol CAN with you, in case of extra fuel required. As Nano tank is little bit small. [This is just to avoid problems in journey].

@phoenix bird : No offence taken.

There is a thin line between 'what one can do' and 'what one should do' but lets not delve on this further and as my last post said - "Please consider this as friendly advise" and treat it as so.
Do not worry, driving Tata Nano on any highways in India is not crossing that thin line at all. In my honest opinion advices even if friendly are of no use if they come out of false beliefs or lack of knowledge and if they are totally wrong.

People need to understand, Tata Nano is a complete car, not some toy or two wheeler with two extra wheels. In these days no companies put out there models which cannot be driven on highways etc. Even in case of Nano the vehicle has gone through hell load of testing phases, improvements and everything. Just because it is cheapest car does not mean owners of nano are poor chaps or come from below the poverty line. Neither this car will fly off on highways etc. If one talks about highway safety, isn't it more about drivers than the car itself when it comes about active safety. Would anyone just go and bang in some other car just because one has airbags available.

This rotten mindset about tata nano and actually general mindset of us Indians thinking cheap things are always bad is the main reason after wrong marketing for the failure of this car. I have used numerous cars in my driving life and have lot of cars in my house ranging from old padmini to new bmw and I don't feel anything wrong about Tata Nano. Obviously the car has limitations and less plastic on interior, but it is a complete car which can be driven safely and soundly on each and every road of India.

No real need, considering the range of full tank atleast 280 kms, (350 in my nano's case) its adequate, if we can't find a fuel station for 280 kms then we are really doomed any-ways.

I did Nagpur - Pune overnight and did not face issue of fuel availability at all. It's more about keeping schedule of your refuels which is important.

Great Initiative, I must say and if Tata's are listening you are about to get a sponsored [clap]

I am a Nano Fan but not a owner and will feel proud with your accomplishment. As of Schedule I would suggest to add few more day to your plan. Add a slack day between 3-4 days of your planned trip. This would help relaxing yourself, roaming around destinations you visit and accommodate for break-downs to significant delays in driving times. Just a suggestion.
Yes you have given a very good suggestions, but mastiandroid has issues with getting leaves from his work, he's still trying to sort that matter out. But thank you for meaningful suggestion.

This is one awesome thread!

How many people have confirmed as of now? Please do take some time to find the enthusiastic nano owners in our forum and send in the invitations as soon as possible.

You can catch hold of many nano owners here:

This is for reference that's all:

Dear Chayan sir, any car can do the road trips these days, because there are good highways, and nano can easily do 80kmph, and just for information when we went to pune trip from Bangalore for VW plant visit, the concrete road laid was so irritating to the tyres such that our Enjoy maximum speed was 100kmph because we didn't want the engine and tyres to be stressed, so when you compare the 8 lakh car to a 2 lakh one, nano has only little difference.

Just a few cents from my side:(Might seem awkward)

- Please add additional cushion for the seat along with wooden beads, to avoid fatigue and heat on your buttocks.

- Keep water bottles in plenty, throughout my journey so far, aquafina branded water are the best, also keep them rounded with turkey napkins(wet condition to keep it cold).

- Keep something like a flag or a print-out on the windshield to represent the drive.

- Keep changing gears and speeds in frequent intervals to avoid wear and tear on the engine and clutch plates. Also keep a tab of checking for engine heating.

- Tyre pressure to be checked at intervals, keep 2 points lower if the weather is too hot or sunny.

- Keep the checklists like attendance, fuel logger, expense sheet etc..

- Keep your mobile balances sufficiently, one idea is you can put datapacks or 3g and use skype to communicate with each other. Hope everybody has smartphones.

I didnt expect driving for 400-500 km a day would hurt a lot. Anyway, thanks for the tip, will carry cousions

OK. Planning to carry 25 liters water can from home that we can fill from place to place.

- Keep something like a flag or a print-out on the windshield to represent the drive.
Nice and neat suggestion. Will talk to Vishal and figure out something.

- Keep changing gears and speeds in frequent intervals to avoid wear and tear on the engine and clutch plates. Also keep a tab of checking for engine heating.
OK, noted.

Hoping weather to be pleasant [:)]
