Recent market success is KIA. What others need to learn is, how they attract the clients. That Seltos AD was almost there in all channels and also I remember Benedict Cumberbatch was promoting MG Hector. Both ruled the ads during Cricket WC2019. MG was showcased with the Voice Command abilities, while Seltos was showcased by just the looks(More just a Trailer), and the rest is seen how they both occupied 2 slots in the market. KIA has DCT issues, but are customers concerned, am sure that a layman won't think.
Another point is, one car for which you require extensive research to go through its own lineup is the Seltos: It has a different engine, gearbox combinations. The advantage with that is, you cater to all kinds of customers. The majority will aim for the top-end version, as it has more bells and whistles.

Whereas Ford, you see the Facelift itself doesn't contain major eye-catchy upgrades, mostly cosmetics, and minor tweaks on the interior. However, they tried to bring in an effort with Ecosport, but it was too late! Freestyle was an underrated product(I haven't seen Freestyle ads on TV).
Trivia- I got a rare chance, in Thanjavur, to ride in a Ford Figo Aspire taxi. I was surprised to see in a normal 3 Star Hotel, Aspire as a Taxi. I had a chat with the driver, who from his level of knowledge, did acknowledge that he felt proud to drive a premium brand. He told that this was the Hotel Owner's, beat car, although was maintained well. 2016 car, I had ridden on 2017, had clocked 45000kms. Needless to say, the car rode like a tank. Never I have been driven so comfortably in a Taxi (Comparing with Etios , I would rate Etios=Aspire>Xcent>Dzire>Manza)- In terms of comfort levels in Taxi Segment.

I too owned a Ford Fiesta Gen 1. Car rode brilliantly, But service was an issue. Expensive spares, unavailability of spares, expensive repairs, complicated sensors that were difficult to get repaired at road side mechanics, very less number of service centres (at that time, 2004, they were just 2 in Hyderabad) were some major issues. No good mechanic refused to service citing complicated mechanism and unavailable of authentic spares in open market were issues with FORD.

I have looked up all the options FORD has to import all the possible cars into India. I looked at RHD markets and Canadian cars are the ones that Ford can import to India. All possibilities we can have a single 2.0L engine option like VW-SKODA too has one petrol engine common for imports.

Here are my selection as possible imports than can be economical but impactful for Indian consumers.

Our Fords were from European Ford and they had RHD cars but nothing worthy enough for the double-price import. They have the Transit van and if someone stupid enough still there, might pit it against the Hiace here [lol]

I have gone through the FORD UK website. There are nothing so brilliant in high end category. The UK market is complete small car driven market and most of them are small cars. So they will not suit Indian market as potential imports.

Hence have ruled out EUROPEAN portfolio.

On a second thought, Is FORD looking at arm twisting technique to derive some concession from the government to prevent lay-offs?

Yesterday serviced my Ford Aspire at GK Ford Raipur. Service went well as always. Saw lesser number of cars waiting for service. Earlier there used to be long queues of waiting vehicles. Fewer number of service people too . But service was prompt without any trouble. Some older experienced people have moved on and been replaced by inexperienced ones , but I guess thats natural. On asking about service availability in future, they informed that they have a 10 year contract with Ford to provide service which was heartening to hear.
Felt sad to see the vacant dealership shop floor. Many times I have been there admiring the new Ecosport and planned to exchange my Aspire at a future date. It was nostalgic.
Enquired about whether they will take dealership of any other brand or when newer products will come from Ford, but they didnt have any information.

Thanks for sharing the update @Razor. My car’s service is due soon and I’m curious about the situation there and standards of service I’ll receive. Shall update then.

Yup. Ford has also confirmed that more than 90% of its service centers will continue to function across 240+ cities. Prices of consumables and spare parts have also been fixed for next 5-Years.

Ford to come back into India as an electric vehicle manufacturer

Ford-Mach-E.jpg

Here’s a piece of news that might bring a wide smile to the faces of Ford fanboys in India. According to a recent report of the Indian Government’s PLI scheme, Ford is reconsidering manufacturing cars in India. The Indian arm of the American carmaker had applied for the PLI scheme for the automobile sector and has been shortlisted as one of the twenty names in the scheme.

The news has been confirmed by Kapil Sharma, Director, Communications at Ford India, who has thanked the Government of India for shortlisting the proposal of Ford India for the PLI scheme. In his statement, Sharma also confirmed that Ford is evaluating possibilities of using one of its two plants in India as a base for making electric vehicles and exporting to different countries.

Ford cancels EV production plans in India

Ford has withdrawn its application from the Centre’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. The American carmaker was in the first tranche of manufacturers who got approval for this scheme. Now, however, the company will not use any of its existing facilities in India – at Maraimalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu and Sanand, Gujarat – for this purpose. The state of these plants lies in limbo now.

  • Future of 24,000 employees in Tamil Nadu doubtful
  • Ford will continue to import and sell cars in the country
  • Tata and Hyundai rumoured to be eyeing Ford's plants

TATA Motors has already annexed the Sanand factory that lies exactly behind the TAMO facility. It has both engine and body shop assembly facilities.
It is not yet clear if TAMO is interested in the Tamilnadu factory as, I believe, it has space for only 2 vehicles and may not fit the requirements for TAMO but Chandrashekharan has Met CM Stallin about the take over.
Also SIAC owned MG has shown interest in the Ford facility.

Ford EcoSport Last Unit Rolls Out - Chennai plant has also shut down, the company’s last farewell to India

After-the-last-unit-of-Ford-EcoSport-the-Chennai-plant.jpg

Ford India closed their business in the Indian market in September last year. The company has two plants in India. One is conveniently located near Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The other is located near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Ford used to manufacture small cars like Figo, Freestyle and Aspire from the Sanand plant. While Ford manufactured the EcoSport and Endeavor from the Chennai plant. The company has already stopped production at the Sanand plant. Now it manufactures the last units of the latest Ford EcoSport from its Chennai plant. No more cars will be made at this plant. That is, Ford has now bye-byeed the Indian market forever.
