Recently i had given my car for service and they filled nitrogen in all the tyres ( free)
When i inquired regarding refills on highways, the MAS adviser said "just fill normal air there will be no problem"

Next month, I am going for Rajasthan tour in my PUNTO. Overall distance would be around 2500 KMs. So it is advisable to get my car's tyres filled with Nitrogen for preventing/avoiding tyre burst in long distance?
Dharmesh,

Filling nitrogen is a good idea.

During our 5000 km trips (two such trips), nitrogen did help us to drive without worrying about air pressure variation in different road conditions throughout the trip.

Regarding regular usage, last time I checked tyre pressure was 2.5 months ago. It is almost like fill it and forget it with nitrogen.

@Dharmesh, Hey nice trip in Punto man !!

@Autosafari, it is nice to hear that from you, but to be frank I am really confused and not convinced on the usage of Nitrogen till now. In a regular city use will that help ?

What is the right way of using Nitrogen?
If we found nitrogen is less in one of the tyres after filling with nitrogen and we are on a state highway where nitrogen is not available, then what shall we do ?
Is that nitrogen filling is good for the tyres? if so why the car manufacturers are not recommending it ?
Sorry for too many questions and also if few of them are stupid !!

@Gurrala saab :

I topuped Nitrogen for my Whitey before 3months & I totally forgot to check again. Last Saturday I checked the Nitrogen believe me there was no change in type pressure.

If you not found any nitrogen air stations in highways just fill the ordinary air and refill the full tyre when you got nitrogen thats it.

Most of the towns and cities have MRF showrooms there we can get Nitrogen air.

Once my Blacky was punctured in Cuddalore but I didn't get Nitrogen so I filled ordinary air. Once I reached Pondy I found MRF showroom and refilled the full tyre.

Car manufacturers simply wants cost cutting. For them, they will have to compell every ASS to install nitrogen machine s, then comes machine's maintainance.
When new car is delivered, all 5 tires will have to be nitrogen filled in free of cost (200 rs) which they use to give some freebies eg.mud flaps now a days. Also if tire gets puncture on way to home, owner calls back and ask n' number of queries related to nitrgen.
I am posting a snap of a nitrogen machine , which mentions merits of nitrogen.

Nitrogen is lighter than air. The major constituent of air after nitrogen is O2, which makes the air heavy and it also contributes to hotness of the air.

In conclusion, nitrogen is 20 %lighter and 20% colder than air. So Nitrogen is 20 % better than air in general.

@Tornado - Following is the composition of air -

Air is a mixture of 78.03% nitrogen, 20.99% oxygen, 0.94% argon, 0.03% carbon dioxide, 0.01% hydrogen, 0.00123% Neon, 0.0004% helium, 0.00005% krypton and 0.000006% xenon.

@Sam Dinkar - you are right. No significant difference between filling nitrogen or air as air is almost 80% nitrogen, oxygen is not significantly heavier than nitrogen considering the volume of gas held in tyres.

its just another automobile fad to fool innocent people.
