FIAT LINEA 1.6 MJD in July!!!
Looks likes its gonna be the 1.6 MJD that makes it way before the T-Jet in the Indian market afterall.
Fiat India, which has done a comeback of sorts in the Indian car market, is leaving no stone unturned to be in the minds of the people. The company officials recently said that they plan to introduce Linea 1.6 MultiJet and Punto Sports in July-August 2010.
Ravi Bhatia, vice president - Commercial for Fiat India said, “We have been getting a lot of requests from consumers asking for the Linea 1.6. Keeping that demand in mind, we will be launching the same in July. We would also be introducing Punto Sports sometime that period although work is still on the same and so any exact timeline is difficult.” The Punto Sports is expected to be in the range of Rs 7 - 7.5lakhs but as another Fiat official says no valuation can be attributed right now.
Fiat India officials recently had said that they would be introducing variants of its successful models like Punto and Linea all through the year. “The reiterating fact that the ‘haunt’ Indian consumers had on buying Fiat cars is no longer present with localisation coming in and more service centres being opened across India,” said Bhatia.
On any new products to be launched, he said that this year will see more or less only variant launches but the company is working on new products though nothing can be revealed at this point of time.

If they price it well (which is difficult considering 1.3 MJD is ~ 9.5L on road Jaipur and some added features in the 1.6) it shoud be a hit.

Some info about the 1.6 MJD
The 1.6 Litre Multijet engine is one of the recent powerplants from Fiat and is a pretty high tech unit. The 1600 cc four cylinder 16 valve common rail turbo diesel engine comes in two varities – a turbocharged 105 bhp unit or a VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger) version of the same with an impressive 120 bhp and more than 300 nm of torque. The engine is designed to be low on maintenance with a service interval of more than 35000 kms in Europe! The fuel efficiency is also said to be equal to or even better than the 1.3 Multijet engine currently under the hood.
IMO, 1.6 MJD VGT detuned to 110 bhp similar to India specd T-Jet and ~275 NM torque should be ideal.
