Anything over 140 kmph in India I assume is occasional on any car sold in India let it be a punto , polo or anything .and like swiftandfurious mentioned can be extremely dangerous in India .

So What purpose will it solve by the end of the day even if a polo or a punto does 200 kmph speed ? .
I think we can start a new thread discussing about the speeds achieved on various hatches and lets not derail somebody's ownership thread by asking and posting numbers and figures .

Speedo reading v/s GPS indicated speed difference.

My experience of 30k kms has never shown me a faster punto in spite of good Delhi roads with straight lines as well as curvy flyovers. Figo, i20 and recently a swift have been in tryst with my polo, but never a punto. I wonder why.
Exactly opposite is my observation on Polo, i20, Figo :). But agree on Swift - they seem to be very eager to put you behind!

Spot on!

Share the data to back your statement and also share the link where the rules are written.
As I said, this is just my *own* reading with GPS v/s speedo and don't have a fancy xls for that. I also don't have a OBD adapter.

BTW, there is one thread on some other forum on Polo's OBD reading v's speedo and it says 9 Km/h more reading on Polo (1.2 D) speedo compared to GPS - 164 read on speedo when actually doing 155 km/h.

I would say it makes more sense and coincides with my observation.

@Raja you are right. Sorry @VivekRj.Dieselhead for going OT, this is my last post on this deviation.

i think being a Punto 90 owner i can clarify this. Firstly punto's gear ratios doesn't allow it to be used in any drag but one of my friend Sidharth(famous as sidindica) have done many drags with his punto 75 and won as well(unfortunately he is not on this forum). Due to this nature of punto people usually becomes sedate drivers as i have also become the same. But as soon as i go to highways my keeda starts biting me for the speed and i end up doing these kind of speeds.
But somehow if you would meet me in-between the traffic you would notice mei driving like i am a newbie(driving since 18 years, age : going to become 26 in this july) and trust me i was a very impatient driver till i drove punto.

But it doesn't mean i can't drive like that now with my punto but the fact is i have now become a little mature(only a little[evil]), i mean i drive like that once i get some open road, otherwise i am happy crawling with the speed of traffic but in higher gears(taking full advantage of 209 newton meters).

@hemantp not to worry buddy.

I think it depends a lot on the driver as well . I have also seen EON zoom pass by me, as I was doing 90-95 and EON was on greater speed than mine. But does that means, Punto cannot attain that speed. I dont think so.

And this I am saying not only about Punto, but other cars as well. Many times on Highways I have overtaken Lauras and even Beamers, but that does not means my Punto is super fast as compare to beamer, he can overtake me anytime, Just that he wants drive it at sedate speed. [;)]

That is the point and I think I mentioned that earlier as well, 75 is more fun to drive and feels more powerful, and can be launched in better way compared to 90hp. More onto that, there are 'good' remaps available for the 75hp but not for 90hp which is just a stamp, not the real power increase over that 75hp. Only major difference is 75hp has FGT compared to VGT of the 90hp and this VGT actually spoils the fun since it delivers very linear and boring kind of power delivery. [:)]

One of the reasons that very few fast puntos are seen on road is that, the number of punto are less itself, so probability comes down.
Whatever be the reason, one thing I have noticed with Punto is that they stick to their lane all the time and rarely make abrupt left right moves. I really like the discipline that this car tends to bring. I am guessing it is because of good handling and steering feedback.

Certainly it does depend on driver, I have done high speeds on wagon-r too. The speed figure doesn't matter, what matters is How you reach that figure.

Actually you got the essence of most of the things i mentioned[:)]. Low no. of puntos is also a reason and mostly the people who buys a fiat loves them too much and can't tolerate any scratches this could also be one of the reasons of being a sedate driver.

Btw guys yesterday when i was standing on a red light near lakshmi nagar, a black punto was approaching from opposite lane and both of us passed smile and waved our hands. I just love doing this[:D].

I agree with Right now on discipline of Punto.may be they are too scared due to large blindspots.

But what I have noticed is they are the fastest on road.I cant say reckless but they do over-speed and that too with family and kids inside.
Worst part is they tempt me to chase !

Like Newton's law, we see some Punto with Dark tinted glass with extra lights honking like hell.
Yesterday, i was going in my bike after Kanakapura (Sarakki) signal. For some distance, i was hearing the honking. I just came to side and waited that 'emergency' vehicle to pass. It was fully dark tinted. Big two extra light. Thud thud sound and over all the honking.

It had KA-51 registration. Thought of posting when i saw this thread. You see abusing the road disciple by everyone. Whether it is a Maruti 800 or Benz. Those who care their vehicle drive more carefully & without disturbing other fellow drivers on the road.

May be the blind spot and weight of car tends to keep them in line.
The fastest are always Swifts or Santros (not talking about highways)

That's a good point on road safety and manners but where did Newton come from?

I think it would be a rare scene as i haven't even heard of puntos like this.

Yeah the blind spot do create problems in the early days of ownership but we becomes used to the things we love and now i don't have much problem. I mean its not that i don't drive like fire on my tail due to blind spot.[lol]

You are correct about swifts and santros, they are always like hell on the roads. I don't know what do they wanna prove on the roads with no space for fast driving but they drive and brake too frequently and meet on the next red lights.

Swift and Santros,I consider then in reckless category .they intentionally abuse it considering the resale factor I guess (use and throw type)

I think Punto owner are under impression of driving some high end sports hatch lol.[lol]but I bet its the fastest diesal hatchback in country .(quickest top speed and best in gear acceleration)

Linea has been ever slouch and best mannered car in my consciousness second by Chevy Aveo.

Swift and santro's power delivery is such that they tend to sort of jump ahead, while Punto and polo have slower low end. I will not blame the drivers of swift or a santro but the way these cars are engineered to behave!!
