Hi Fellas, Here's my little experience with Collinite 845 wax. Did not follow any polish or pre-wax procedures before waxing, just washed with Armor All Heavy Duty shampoo at full dilution.

Dipped in hot water for about 10 minutes and shook the bottle to liquefy contents. Thanks to my TAI detailing mentor CRACING for sending me one of his microfiber applicator pads (the green one below). With it's huge diameter and a nice sleeve to hold, wax application was never so easy for me. It also absorbs leftover water droplets on the panel gaps/joints unlike foam pads which I used earlier.

After buffing. Visually I did not find any difference between Collinite 845 and Meguiar's Hi Tech Yellow Wax in terms of shine. However, 845 seems to have boosted the color a little more than Meg's.

Glossiness is more pronounced under shade:

And finally some water beading:

Good result with the C845 Prabhagar. Next time spread the work in two days.
Day 1: wash and polish with a mild polishing compound like Meg's Ultimate Polish or similar ( this is a very important step to get to optimum result and also the needs most of your power)
Day 2: Apply the wax of your choice.

From my experience C845 gives a shinier look with more durability. It is also easier to apply. But Meg's No 26 gives a wetter look. It also darken the colour a bit in darker coloured car. Durability a bit less. I got max durability of 2 months.

Thank you archat68 [:)]. In my case the M26 lasted hardly a month after which there was no water beading at all. My polishing schedule, which is every 6 months has already past due and I planned to do it once 845 wears out. I have a couple of questions on your tips:
1. What benefits do we get by waiting for a day after polishing? I had done polish & wax back to back in my previous (first) attempt at detailing.
2. I do not have covered garage or car cover to safeguard after polishing on Day 1. Is it okay to expose to elements until waxing the next day?
3. Should I wash the car before waxing on Day 2?

To aid with my energy levels, I have bought the Meg's DA Power system with polish & wax pads. Waiting on decent drill machines to go with the system. With help of CRACING, I have shortlisted below two drilling machines which have dedicated speed dials on them. Any other product suggestions are appreciated and most welcome [:)]

Re: Headlights Restoration

HEADLIGHTS RESTORATION
Hello Friends,

My car headlights had issues with clear coat since long. Tiny pieces used peel and get caught into MF clothes while cleaning the car. It became too annoying lately so last month I went ahead and fixed it. Today I had time to post the work details and results.

Note: This will not work on headlights that are faded or hazed inside. Please make sure of it.

Items required: Formula 1 Headlight Restorer, Polishing Foam Pad + Backing Plate, Drilling Machine, Sandpapers of different grit (1200, 2000, 2500) and Strong Shampoo.

Lets start:

1. Wash the headlights with shampoo and mask the surround area with masking tape. You can also remove the headlights if possible, so you can work on it easily.

2. For faded headlights, use headlight restorer on the polishing foam pad (5" or smaller) fitted to drill or a rotary polisher or DA polisher. Gently polish the headlight and take a break every few mins to prevent heat. Wipe using dry mf cloth and check the progress.

3. Incase the headlights are badly faded, you have to first wet stand using 2500 grit and then continue with headlight restorer as mentioned above.

4. Incase the clear coat is peeling from the headlights (Like mine), you'll need to go little aggressive. Wet sand using 1200 grit, then 2000 and finally 2500. Once all the clearcoat is removed, polish the headlights using headlight restorer as mentioned above.

WARNING: USE SHAMPOO MIXED WITH WATER FOR WET SANDING. DO NOT USE PLAIN WATER AS IT WILL CAUSE DEEP SCRATCHES.

5. Finally when the headlights look crystal clear, you'll need to protect them from fading again. There are different ways to protect the glass. You can use wax, sealant or dashboard protectant/dresser but these will not last long so you have to apply them frequently without fail. Another way is to spray clear coat but it aren't gonna be easy task and there is a chance of peeling again in future.

Meanwhile, I have come across Rust-Oleum Headlight Restoration Kit which available in ebay India. The kit includes headlight polishing pad, clear coat wipe and etc. This one is better for those who don't have polishing pads or polishing machine. However, keep sand papers handy especially for clear coat peeling headlights because this kit alone doesn't help in some cases.

Formula 1 Headlight Restorer is a good product for faded headlights and works efficiently with polishing machine but when done by hand, it takes lot of elbow grease. The product says that it contains sealant but I doubt its durability.

Anyway, here are some snapshots of my headlights restoration work and results.

I thought you were doing this manually. If you have power tools and the energy then you can always complete the work in one day.

If you leave the car one day in open condition you have to do a wipe down with QD before applying the LSP.

Regarding the drill I think you can buy any good drill and add a regulator like this.

Cleaning & Waxing Procedure

Hello friends,
the car dealer suggested me these products to wash the car since they are all diy-
- clean the car with microfibre cloth. bought amazon basics microfibre cloth set
- wash the car with a shampoo and spunge. formula 1 shampoo and spunge has good reviews on amazon. how exactly does this shampoo work?i mean shampoo on a car?sorry for this question
- let it dry and use the microfibre cloth again to remove dust
- apply formula 1 wax

few questions-
1. will the above steps and products help in maintaining the car's paint and shine?
2. any other product which needs to be added here
3. how and which products to use to wash alloys and tyres?
4. out of topic, which car air freshner is good? if its an air spray type of product then good.

Re: Cleaning, waxing procedure

Good to see that these days owners are spending this much of time, money, energy and patience in maintaining their steeds. I prefer being old school, who had never been into this much of detailing. But, my previous cars had that gleaming look which forced many people to raise an eyebrow.

My ammunition contained just few soft cotton clothes, lots & lots of old newspapers, a regular car shampoo, any dish-washing liquid and few boxes of Waxpol Hard Polish.

Apart from dish-washing liquid all other stuff don't need any explanation.
It is used in windscreen washer liquid to clean the glass perfectly.

My current cars donot get any of my time. Sad, but true. [embarass]

1. Use any car shampoo, but no household detergents please. Use any polish after drying up the paint completely. Buff up till you wish, and it will shine better.
2. Can't comment, as I have no experience with any other brand/product. My requirements are met with my simple stuff.
3. I use car shampoo only. On some sticky substance, use household detergent like Ariel/Surf. Nothing to worry when used on alloys or tyres.
4. Use a gel-based freshner as chances of spillage are reduced.

Re: Cleaning, waxing procedure

Hello Vivek,

Have you bought a new car? if so, congratulations. [clap]

I will give you few tips on maintaining your vehicle.

As suggested by the dealer, use good quality microfiber cloths to clean the car. Anything else would cause swirls, including sponge. I think you have heard about car washing mitts. i.e Sobby Wash Mitt aka Cleaning Gloves available in Amazon. Use this and car shampoo to wash the car. Rinse with clean water and dry using microfiber cloths. Don't let the water dry by itself otherwise it will leave water spots.

There are two types of car shampoos; one is pure shampoo and the other is with wax. You can use either but when applying standalone wax, you have to use pure shampoo and later use wash & wax shampoo to maintain. There are many brand shampoos available, go for standard one. I recommend one from Sonax or Armor All.

If you want to apply wax, make sure you are in dust free environment and in shade. For a beginners, I would suggest formula 1 products as they are easy to find and easy to use. Formula 1 Premium Liquid Wax is what I suggest. Apply it using foam applicator pads (You can find these in many online stores) and let it dry to haze, then wipe off or buff the residue using microfiber cloth.

Above said product is a standalone wax and to maintain, preserve or boost that layer, you can use spray wax once a month. i.e Formula 1 Premium Fast Spray Wax.

For cleaning and protecting wheels, you can use car shampoo with higher dilution. Use brush (I use shoe polishing brush) for cleaning tires and microfiber cloth or mitt for alloys. Make sure not to use these cloths on car body. Incase wheels get too dirty, you have to buy stronger cleaners. To protect tires, I highly recommend to use water based protectant/dressers only. i.e 3M Tyre Dresser, Proklear TTD and etc.

For protecting plastic trims, door panels, dashboards and etc, I again recommend to use water based protectant/dressers only. i.e Proklear TTD, Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant and etc.

I hope these tips are helpful. Moreover, you can find detailed guide on Car Detailing Basics here. If you need any help, feel free to ask me. [:)]

Thanks so very much. Yes I got a new car, many thanks for your wishes. Since I am new in this field, it will take some time for me to get the hold of these. I am currently following these steps-

- Clean the car with microfibre cloth. Bought amazon basics microfibre cloth set https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B013R7Y1SE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but the guard in the parking lot told me that since the cloth is not cotton, I will end up scratching the car since I am cleaning the dust without water i.e. dry cleaning. Is that the case? How to prevent these? Should i go for some other cloth or a mitt? And any remedy/tips for the car standing under covers during rainy season?

- Haven't got the time to wash the car yet. Whenever I do, I will be able to do it with a bucket and mug and not with a pipe or hose. I have the option to get it cleaned from an outside shop but they will apply their own wax or whatever they have on the car. I don't want that since its a new car so please suggest me products along with brands for the interior and exteriors which I should buy to keep the car clean? I already bought a Formula 1 Carnauba Paste Wax. Was thinking of applying it after removing dust with the microfiber cloth. But I got hold of this thread before. Also what exactly is a difference between a wax, clay and a paint sealant?

I will be able to wash the car once or max twice a month. For all other days it will be removing the cover and wiping of the dust. So, please suggest accordingly.
P.S. Is there any specific brand of cover that I should use or buy, which is good for the paint.

Cleaning dry surface with dry material will definitely cause swirls so I suggest not to do it regularly. That being said, microfiber will cause least amount of swirls compared to other materials because it is ultra soft, non-abrasive and collects/traps dust instead of moving the dust on the surface.

Keep the car paint regularly waxed to prevent micro scratches, fading, rust and etc.

Ok thats fine. You can use sprayer but high pressure washer may strip wax. Also note, cleaning dry surface with dry cloth or duster may strip wax. Like I said above apply wax (Standalone as well as spray wax) regularly and wash with car shampoo that doesn't strip wax.

As of car detailing products, its difficult to suggest because there are several brands with different price tags. It all depends on your budget and requirements. Some products work for one but not for others. So I suggest you to go through Amazon car care section and check out the products and their reviews.

Yes, Formula 1 Carnauba Paste Wax should be applied after cleaning the car. Its a paste wax so it will take some elbow grease but will be durable.

Clay is used to remove above surface contamination. You have a new car so its not really necessary. Wax and sealant are paint protection products. Wax is made of natural ingredients (Some may contain polymers also) and sealant is full of polymers. Wax is cheaper to own and gives glossy wet look but lasts a month only. Sealant is little expensive but last longer. Looking depends on product.

Sorry, No idea about car covers as I don't use one or regularly.

No, please don't do this. You have to completely wash the car, dry it and apply wax using foam or microfiber applicator pads. When you do this, make sure the environment is dust free and no direct sun light hits the car.

@CRACING
Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Few other queries, please reply to them all-

That being said, microfiber will cause least amount of swirls compared to other materials because it is ultra soft, non-abrasive and collects/traps dust instead of moving the dust on the surface.
I have ordered a Jopasu and CA duster since they had good reviews in this forum and on Amazon. I am supposed to get them next week, in the meantime should I stop using the microfiber cloth as I have already scratched it in few places including the windscreen? [cry] I was hardly rubbing it to wipe off the dust [frustration] Also how to wipe off dust from side mirros, windscreen? The parking lot guard told me to use water+newspapers for cleaning mirrors etc. Is it fine? Can I use the hand gloves of Jopasu on them

No sprayer dear, I will access to a bucket and a mug for washing. Hope that's fine. If there's a mini sprayer or something then please let me know. I will go for it.

As of car detailing products, its difficult to suggest because there are several brands with different price tags. It all depends on your budget and requirements. I am clueless about them all, so any help regarding selection of brand will be useful.

Yes, Formula 1 Carnauba Paste Wax should be applied after cleaning the car. Its a paste wax so it will take some elbow grease but will be durable.

Let's go for product by product, wherever I am wrong please correct me.

Shampoo
I found these
https://www.amazon.in/Formula-61501...F8&qid=1516726290&sr=8-5&keywords=car+shampoo it has wax, so no need of wax later on
https://www.amazon.in/3M-IA26016640...F8&qid=1516726290&sr=8-3&keywords=car+shampoo no wax
Sonax and Armor all has these shampoo's which one to choose
https://www.amazon.in/Sonax-314341-...=1516784007&sr=1-2&keywords=sonax+car+shampoo
https://www.amazon.in/Sonax-314300-...=1516784007&sr=1-1&keywords=sonax+car+shampoo
https://www.amazon.in/Armor-All-251...6783827&sr=1-1&keywords=armor+all+car+shampoo
https://www.amazon.in/Armor-All-Ult...6783827&sr=1-3&keywords=armor+all+car+shampoo

How should I apply the shampoo+water solution since I will be using a bucket and a mug, if a mini sprayer is not available. Is this mitt fine?
https://www.amazon.in/Chemical-MIC4...516786488&sr=1-1&keywords=water+chemical+guys

Also I checked few videos online, in one of them the guy used a pipe with a heavy airflow to push out water after cleaning. Is that type of accessory available in India?

Wax
I have already bought a F1 wax
https://www.amazon.in/Formula-61502...&qid=1516784150&sr=1-4&keywords=formula+1+wax
I will use it on my bike if it is not good for cars. Should I order the Formula 1 Premium Liquid Wax as suggested above? What is a difference between a liquid wax and a paste wax?
Are these pads okay for waxing the car?
https://www.amazon.in/Meguiars-W000...qid=1516783944&sr=1-1&keywords=applicator+pad

Now coming to spray wax, what are these for exactly? Which brand is good and is the application same with the pads?

Tyres+Alloys
https://www.amazon.in/3M-IA26016638...id=1516784539&sr=1-2&keywords=3m+tyre+dresser
+
https://www.amazon.in/AmazonBasics-...=1-1&keywords=amazon+basics+micro+fiber+cloth

Waterless Car Wash/Rinseless Car Wash
What exactly is this? I watched few videos about this last night also on some other portal too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gVU4C_6wOE

I searched for Proklear TTD tyres on Amazon but I found these
https://www.amazon.in/Proklear-Wate...4578&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=Proklear+TTD+tyres
how exactly does it work?

If this is fine then I am planning to switch to the below mentioned MF cloth due to its high gsm than the Amazon Basics one
https://www.amazon.in/SOFTSPUN-Micr...er+cloth+300+gsm&refinements=p_98:10440597031

Interiors+Side mirrors etc

https://www.amazon.in/Meguiars-G411...8&sr=1-2-fkmr0&keywords=meguiars+natural+skin
+
using these with the hand gloves that I will get with Jopasu. Any need for mitt here?

Drying Washed Car
https://www.amazon.in/Microfiber-Dr...=1516786377&sr=1-1&keywords=waffle+weave+cars
or if that accessory for car which blows out air is available then please let me know its name?

I skipped sealant. Should I switch it with wax? Please correct me if I missed something or if any of the above selected products needs a change.
Please share the technique/video on how to do the above mentioned process the correct way so that there are no scratches/swirl marks.

My usual process will be remove the cover>>wipe off dust with Jopasu or CA duster>>waterless car wash(proklear ttd, as shown in the video, if it is useful and helpful). Once or twice a month wash the car, tyres with all the products mentioned above.
Now coming to a question that has been haunting me since last night. Since out of my sheer ignorance I caused scratches on the car, I started checking youtube and few other portals. I stumbled across Ceramic coating. I found out that it is must especially for new cars to preserve the paint and help in avoiding scratches/swirl marks. It acts like a tempered glass for the car. The pricing will be 60-70k depending upon the model of the car. The application time will be 4-5 days, as 6-7 coatings+heating is done. Now the downside is that scratches and swirl marks will be there if we do not maintain/take care of the car. So, I am skeptical about it. This is my family's first car so I want to take maximum care but if it cannot 100% avoid scratches/swirls then I am thinking otherwise. Please advice.

Sorry for asking so many questions, this is our family's first car and a dream come true for all of us. Since I have already scratched it so I am trying to be careful, hope you will understand.

One duster is sufficient. I'd recommend CA duster but you can choose either. I doubt microfiber caused noticeable scratches, that too so early and its impossible on windscreen/glass (I have experience with windshield polishing so trust me, it won't cut easily). With the help of duster you can easily remove light dust. Just make sure the car is dry and dust is not heavy or settled on the paint. If the car has medium dust, you can do rinseless wash and if it is heavy, do full wash with shampoo. Don't use news papers for removing dust, it will cause scratches. News paper is used to remove haze on glasses after washing the car but microfiber works better and safe. Yes, you can use any duster on mirrors to remove light dust.

No sprayer dear, I will access to a bucket and a mug for washing. Hope that's fine. If there's a mini sprayer or something then please let me know. I will go for it.
Do you have access to water pipe from over head tank? if so, you can use Water Spray Gun like this. If not, there is pressure sprayer like this one. However, it will not easily clean shampoo car wash, instead it works better with rinseless wash.

Here I will give little details about the products you have mentioned:

Formula 1 Wash and Wax Shampoo, Armor All Wash and Wax - The wax stays temporary only, say until your car gets dirty. You cannot or must not depend on it. Don't use these when you wanna apply standalone wax (i.e Formula 1 Paste Wax) otherwise you'll be applied wax on a temporary wax.

3M Shampoo, Sonax Shampoo, Sonax Gloss Shampoo - Use any of these when you apply standalone wax.

Chemical Guys Microfiber Wash Mitt - Its very good if it fits your budget. I use Sobby Mitt though. https://www.amazon.in/Sobby-Single-Sided-Microfiber-Cleaning-Multicolor/dp/B01GBDWEKSAlso

SOFTSPUN Microfibers - Your wish. I use SOFTSPUN Microfibers though.

Sobby Microfiber Drying Towel - As name suggest, it used for drying washed car and works better then normal microfiber.

Proklear RAW and RAW CX - These are rinseless wash products. Useful to clean light to medium dirty vehicle effortlessly. Checkout their official videos.

Meguiar's Foam Applicator Pad - Its good if it fits your budget otherwise you can checkout EzClean Foam Applicator Pad.

Formula 1 Carnauba Paste Wax - Since you already this wax, you can use it and then if don't feel satisfied, you can go for premium products like Formula 1 Premium Wax.

Formula 1 Premium Fast Spray Wax - Spray waxes are used to boost existing layer of wax, say once in two weeks or depending upon durability of standalone wax mentioned above. Application is same as applying wax.

Proklear TTD - Use this for tires, dashboard, trims and etc plastic and rubber parts to prevent fading. It is available in ebay India.

Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant - Its alternative to Proklear TTD but may not last long for exterior. At present its listed for Rs. 490 which is a steal deal.

Sealant - This is a premium stuff and mostly available in car detailing websites. i.e Auto Fresh India, Detailed Clean India and etc. i.e Poorboys EX-P Sealant

Polish - This is used to remove micro scratches, existing wax and brighten the paint or make it glossy. This should be used once in 6 months or a year. Frequent use is not advisable.

My usual process will be remove the cover>>wipe off dust with Jopasu or CA duster>>waterless car wash(proklear ttd, as shown in the video, if it is useful and helpful). Once or twice a month wash the car, tyres with all the products mentioned above.
Proklear TTD is a dashboard, tire, trim protectant. Proklear RAW and RAW CX are waterless car wash aka rinseless wash products.

Now coming to a question that has been haunting me since last night.......
Sorry, Ceramic coating subject is vast and I have little knowledge about it. All that I know is, its worth for luxury cars in well developed countries. [glasses]

Here is how I maintain my car:

- Full car wash every week, with either normal shampoo or wash and wax
- Waterless car wash in the week days
- Occasionally use duster when there is not time for washing.
- Proklear TTD every month for all exterior plastics and rubber which includes tires.
- Meguiar's Natural Shine every month for all interior plastics and rubber which includes dashboard and pu leather seats.
- Spray wax every month and standalone wax or sealant every 2 months.
- Clay and polish every year.
- Rain-X Glass Treatment and Anti-Fog in rainy days.

Thanks...
Best Regards
