Re: DIY: Cheap Method To Car Damping Using Yoga Mats
I did it to the front doors. I have missed a few spots on the right side door, but on the left door I feel I have done a good job.
Please see pictures below, In M800 the main causes of rattling noise in doors are
- Metal rods (thin ones that lock/unlock the doors) touch the sheet metal
- windows glass/roller hitting the sheet metal
- Metal rods hitting each other
- Loose bolts/buts holding the doors to the chassy
The left door in my car doesnt produce that squeaking noise every time I go over pot holes! The right side door, I forgot to put the mat pieces between the rod & the sheet metal (on the inside area).
But this is worth the time spent on it, definately reduces the large/loud noises easily.
Driver side Door (normal with door pad)
Door pad removed (dirty interiors visible)
Cleaned the metal interior part with kerosene (great cleaning stuff)
Right side door completed
The left door
Completed Damping

These are the gaps I was mentioning (metal rods hitting each other/ sheet metal)
Yoga mat - 1 Nos - Rs.235, good thickness, 50cmx80cm
Glue - Fevicol SR - Rs.40 for 100ml (more than enough if done only on doors)
Will continue with rear doors soon. Hatch door will have to wait, as I need to copy the DIY of Varun - Remote Hatch & Petrol lid opener)
