Hyundai Motor India October sales down 7.5%
HMIL’s aggregate sales for the month were 48,325 units against 52,217 units in October, 2010. Domestic sales were 33,001 units against 34,720 units in the corresponding month last year; exports were 15,324 units against 17,497 units in October 2010.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter registered a 7.5% decline in cumulative sales for the month of October, 2011. While domestic sales dropped by 5%, exports declined by 12.4%.

Commenting on October 2011 sales, Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, "We have seen that sales get a boost in the festival season but this year sentiment has been tepid. We don’t expect a major upswing in the near future, the challenging economic environment is affecting industry. The Eon has been received well, we have got more than 9,000 bookings till date."
The segment-wise cumulative sales for October, 2011 are: A2 segment (Eon, Santro, i10, i20) 41,204 units; A3 Segment (Accent and Verna) 6,929 units; A5 segment (Sonata Transform) 2 units; Santa Fe (SUV)190 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra reported 20.32% jump in its total sales at 41,506 units. In the domestic market, M&M registered a rise of 21.12% at 39,352 units during the month compared to 32,491 units in the year-ago period. Total sales of passenger vehicles, including Scorpio, XUV500, Xylo, Bolero and Verito, stood at 18,756 units as against 16,987 units in October 2010, up 10.41%.
"We are delighted with a 20 per cent growth in October in spite of the planned maintenance shutdown, which we undertook during this month. The XUV500 has received a phenomenal response with 8,000 plus bookings in just 10 days," M&M chief executive (Automotive Division) Rajesh Jejurikar said.
The company is currently in the process of expediting deliveries before reopening bookings, he added. M&M had shut its facility for five days for maintenance in October 2011. Last year the company had done the same in November.
General Motors India
General Motors India reported a marginal increase in its sales in October at 10,062 units as compared to the same month last year. The company had recorded sales of 10,051 units in the corresponding month last year, General Motors India said in its statement.
During last month, the company sold 1,797 units of small car Spark, 5,328 units of hatchback Beat, 182 units of entry level sedan Aveo, 236 units of mid-sized sedan Optra and 732 units of luxury sedan Cruze.
The company also sold 1,687 units of multi-purpose vehicle Tavera, and 100 units of sports utility vehicle Captiva during the month.
GM India Vice-President P Balendran said the company has been able to grow sales despite the sluggish market on the back of its hatchback Beat diesel.
Commenting on the market, Balendran said: "The market continues to remain sluggish due to unprecedented hikes in interest rates, fuel prices, commodity prices, growing inflation and negative market sentiments. These factors are putting lot of pressure on the automobile market."
India Yamaha Motor
Two-wheeler maker India Yamaha Motor today reported 26.82% increase in its total sales in October 2011 at 47,240 units. The company had sold 37,251 units in the same month last year, India Yamaha Motor said in a statement.
In the domestic market, the company's sales stood at 38,229 units as against 31,791 units in the same month last year, up 20.25%. Exports of India Yamaha rose by 65.04% to 9,011 units during the month from 5,460 units in the year-ago period, it added.
