Tata Nexon.ev scores 5-Star Crash Test Rating from Bharat NCAP

The new Tata Nexon.ev has achieved a 5-star rating in the most recent round of Bharat NCAP crash test results. It scored 29.86 points out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.54 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). Along with the Nexon.ev, the Indian automobile testing agency announced crash test results for the electric Punch, which also achieved a perfect 5-star rating. The safety suite of the Tata Nexon.ev includes all-wheel disc brakes, hill hold and descent control, auto-dimming IRVM, electronic stability control (ESC), six airbags, and a 360-degree camera. Mechanically, the electric SUV is available in two battery specifications: Long Range (LR) and Medium Range (MR). The former has a bigger 40.5kWh battery, while the latter boasts a smaller 30kWh battery. According to the ARAI, the MR and LR versions offer driving ranges of 325 and 465 kilometres, respectively, which is an improvement of about 12 kilometres above the previous figures.

In terms of performance, the LR version yields figures of 215Nm and 127bhp, while the MR version delivers 215Nm and 143bhp. It is essential to keep in mind that though power outputs are unchanged, the torque figure has decreased by 30Nm on the MR model and 38Nm on the LR variant.


The electric SUV is equipped with numerous amenities such as a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel, cruise control, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, Google and Alexa voice assistants, and a nine-speaker JBL sound system with a subwoofer. Notably, the most expensive models come with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen.

The Nexon electric is available in six variants: Creative+, Fearless, Fearless+, Fearless+ S, Empowered, and Empowered+. Its grille features a single-tone body colour, in contrast to the blacked-out grille of the petrol-powered model. The charging state of the EV is indicated by an LED light strip that runs the length of its nose. The e-SUV has a sportier appearance thanks to the new sequential LED DRL headlamp design and alloy wheels.

Tata Punch EV secures 5-star rating in BNCAP crash test

Tata’s added yet another feature to its had with another 5-star rated vehicle, the Punch EV. With the latest release of the Bharat NCAP tests, the Punch EV joins the league that includes the Nexon, Harrier, and Safari in becoming a safe car for the occupants.

The Tata Punch EV scored 31.46 points out of 32 for adult protection and 45 points out of 49 for child protection. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Punch EV scored 15.71 points out of 16 and 15.74 points out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test.


What is to note here is that the Tata Punch variant tested was the top-spec Empowered+ S Long Range. However, the safety score applies to all variants of the Punch EV, as they come standard with 6 airbags across the range.

Other safety features include ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold assist, ISOFIX child seat mounting points, rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and more. The Tata Punch EV range starts at Rs 10.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Citroen Basalt scores 4-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP


Citroen launched the Basalt earlier in August this year at a very competitive starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Based on the same Common Modular Platform as the Aircross (formerly C3 Aircross), the coupe SUV recently underwent a crash test at Bharat New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) where it was awarded a safety rating of 4 stars.

The Basalt has scored a 4-star rating for both adult and child occupancies. The autonomous testing body has shared the results of the crash test along with a video of the same on its official website and YouTube channel, respectively. The crash tests were conducted in August this year, shortly after the launch of Basalt in India.

The tested variants of Basa include the You and the Plus variants of the naturally aspirated petrol versions, and the Plus and Max guise for the turbo petrol versions, with manual and automatic gearbox options. Basalt scored 26.19 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 35.90 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP).

Moreover, it is the first SUV in its segment to score full points in Side Crash Protection for the AOP. In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, the Basalt scored a satisfactory 10.19 out of 16 points. As for the results, the side movable impact and pole impact tests for adult occupants were rated as ‘Good’, while the front collision rating ranged from ‘Marginal’ to ‘Adequate’.

Further, the Basalt showcased good protection for the head and neck during the frontal offset deformable barrier test for the AOP. Interestingly, the C3 and the eC3, which are underpinned by the same architecture, earlier scored disappointing 0-star ratings each at the Latin NCAP and Global NCAP, respectively.

Citroen Basalt packs in an extensive list of safety features including six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX seat mounts, hill hold control, 3-point seat belts for all seats as standard across all variants. Further, the Basalt employs high-strength steel, Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS), and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) to effectively manage front and side impacts while minimising cabin intrusion.
