The June refresh of Sumo is now being confirmed via Economic Times. From - JLR steals the show as Tata Motors Q4 net drops 36.7% - Economic Times - "In order to counter the tough environment, the company has lined up a series of new launches. It will launch new variants of Nano, Sumo and Indigo by June."

However, TML dealers are still not accepting bookings for new refresh model.

Assuming the refresh consists of rear A/C, alloy wheels and new interiors, would this mean more interest & purchases by personal users who are in the market for a VFM Utility Vehicle ? How much will this add to the net monthly sales for Tata Sumo Gold ?

There will be no major updates, that's for sure.Alloy wheels, new jazzed up interiors, rear A.C. are good and welcome updates, but I sorely miss A'bags and ABS in Sumo GOLD.Recently I took a ride in Sumo Gold and trust me it's a fantastic vehicle.Even though was sitting in the last row,yet it never felt claustrophobic or bumpy.Whatever the sales numbers be,it is indeed a good improvement by Tata.Lets see how the facelift fares in our market!

ABS and Airbags are not really necessary for the Sumo Gold and Tata won't consider bringing them to Gold because you got to know there's Grande which isn't written off yet.

On the ride quality, yes it's a good vehicle to be in, spacious interiors and not a letting down performer. I feel the Enjoy is also a good competitor if not in this segment. But haven't seen them in the roads till now.

Why ? After all sumo doesn't provide any immunity from face getting banged on the ash in case of sudden deceleration in case of collision , Also 235 nm torque is enough to warrant ABS especially if the buyer is affording.

Tell me how many white board Sumo Golds have you seen in your city?
I feel a buyer who can afford for a ABS and Airbag variant could look into the Grande or the Xylo easily.

Sumo is the vehicle which is purely built for utility purposes and most commonly in hilly regions than cities, adding ABS and Airbags wouldn't prove profitable for TML, moreover i see only Gold Ex(with a/c, ps and body colored bumpers which is enough for the purpose) on the roads than the GX(top of the line model)

Know what? Bolero though it's a segment leader, it isn't seen much in Bangalore, us Bangaloreans wonder how Bolero is doing that much, then comes the answer of rural places where Bolero is preferred.

Well , Vishwas , you talked from Tatas bussiness perspective while I talked from an individual GX buyer's perspective.

You are right that if prospective GX buyer complains about non availability of safty featurs , dealer is likely to show fingers toward grande , safari et al. But this would further expose limitation s of Sumo' s future.

But then the grande also dosent come with abs and airbags either .

If tata gives the sumo a complete new makeover and give it a nice new age styling , I will buy it for my own personal use . I love that engine so much .

Oh a mistake, Grande doesn't come with ABS and Airbags here! Then Xylo is a better buy i must say.

But TML should first work on the feedbacks of Gold's customers (Private owners), if you ask me, i would tell them to improve the plastics inside.

+1, their cars needs to be remodeled, just changing those lights, grills and interiors won't fetch many buyers. See even they missed a customer which is you.

I have considerable experience of Sumo Gold EX and in fact have sat in previous Sumo's for last 10 years. My morning daily travel to office is the company owned car and the car is truly better over previous generation Sumo. CR4 engine is quite peppy and response is quick. Suspension is now comfortable (still I wish leaf suspension is changed). Ride is better and nice., no complains. Our driver is comfortable with its handling though he needs to be careful while hitting corners. If you roll up the windows, there is hardly any engine noise in cabin. A/C chills instantly even at 1 no. blower speed. I have little to complain about plastic quality - its ok for me.

If TM wish to refresh Gold, they better add RPM meter in EX and provide roof A/C like their Grande. If ABS is added in EX and GX variant, it is further boost its rating and perhaps draw more buyers. I dont know why but some find the body graphics in bad taste. The rear seats should be better fitted as our Sumo rear seats started rattling even after 2000 Kms (now covered 10000 Kms). No rattling from any other body part till date. Touchwood.

@Ravi: Its a cardboard instead of plastic doorpad and hence Gold will not have rattling.

What ever product TATA gives will have results after 50,000 KMS only previously Indica CR4 I had many clutch related problems with driver often A/C fuses get blown Off

Stupid TML is not fit to give a better vehicle as per expecation of customers.

If you want to own TML vehicle you should have your own mehcanics

Yes there has been failure in our Sumo also, AC blower went dead and had to be replaced some time back.
