I should thank you for that. Had you not given me the information, I was bound to get stuck at Anantpur. Though safe, alternate route was full of all types of roads. My Manza took a sigh of relief once we came back. Really very bad stretches of roads. True test of my car, which she passed. Now need a thorough checkup of suspension and alignment has to be done.

Kolkata to bangalore road trip suggestions

The situation is like this.
I am regular IT guy and was working in Kolkata(my home base for last 8 years), Now relocating to Bangalore. The relocation of domestic stuffs will happen around August(Dates not yet fixed). The real point is this. :).
I have a Swift ZXI at my home base. The transportation guys charged 17K to one of my friend for transporting his car and the car got some scratches during the transportation.I don't want that.
Also if i drive the cost will be lesser than 17K(I hope so as I rarely go above 80km/h on highways, I usually get a FE of 18+kmpl on all my highway journeys).

This is my condition in a nutshell.

Now I am open to all kind of suggestions regarding the best mode of transportation of the car. If self driving would be the best option, then detail on route to take and other things to consider in a self driving trip.

In case, anyone planning a similar trip (around August - October 2014 from Kolkata to Bangalore) please give me a buzz.We can join as a group of cars.My dates are flexible.

Go for driving man. All the way the highway is superb. It is easily doable in 3 days.
Absolutely safe road to drive.
If you can drive more than 1000 KM per day, then it can be done in 2 days. but it will be strenuous drive.
Take NH-5 from Kolkata till Naidupeta and from there take Tirupati kolar bangalore road.
I have done this route 3 times but from Bhubaneswar to Bangalore.

Hello Saurav,

If you are no so sticky about your car, I would advise you to sell off your car in Kolkata and buy another car here. You have to pay insane taxes here after you come. Dont think of evading same as RTO guys are very active here and will eventually catch you.

Even after so, if you want to drive down consider fuel + toll charges and do you maths.

Cheers,

Hello Anshuman,
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. To be honest, after paying the advance for house rent and other formalities, there is a not enough resources to buy one.
I bought the car on December 2012. It was 6.5L on road. The number is WB 02AB 6***. If I can get a price of 5L then i would be fine to sell, which has very very less chance. Now what should be the price of swift zxi (on road)here? I think, some offers are going on currently.

Help me with some maths regarding how much i may get for the old one at kolkata. With the kind of offers ,what are the options available here at bangalore. My budget will be 7L(max) on road.

Sure, no worries.

First read through this -

Even if you have to get your car here you have to pay for transportation, documentation at Kolkata and Bangalore and even taxes here. Its a messy stuff and you will shell out more than 1 lac in process.

Try selling your Swift at Kolkata, if you get a decent price. May be you sell accessories separately which may fetch some more amount.

There are offers going on here for Maruti Cars, you may buy a new Swift again.

Thanks a ton.Can anyone give me a idea about how much i have to pay as road tax if i get my car here?

The current ex showroom price of swift zxi is 5.84L and on road 7.14L at bangalore. 91K as RTO charges. discount 35K(including exchange bonus). final price 6.8L.
If i sell my car there ,I will get at max 4.8L(very optimistic ),but i won't get . so i need to pay 2L more to get a new one here. If i take my car here and if everything can be done within 1L ,still i will save 1L. My car is only 18months old and i hope to meet it for at least next 5 years.
I also have one more idea.If i exchange my car at kolkata and take a new one from there at ex showroom price, drive down here and register here . can it be a option?
If i exchange in kolkata ,i will get the exchange bonus as well
any other idea!!!!

Why do you want to make such an hassle ? If you want to buy a new car buy from here ? Road tax will be 93% (as per KA RTO) i.e 85K. Add around 15K transfer charges, 5K documentation charges both sides, total 105K or approx 110K.

If you sell at 4.8L , you can buy new one here at 6.9L you will pay 1L more but you will not face any hassle and will get a 2014 car. Alternatively go for Swift VXI/other cars.

Exshowroom in BLR is less than Kolkata.
