Tata Gravitas: Spy pics reveal commanding road presence of the seven-seater SUV

(Tata Gravitas is longer than Tata Harrier, but the wheelbase of the two SUVs is reportedly same)

(The read quarter glass is large enough to give the passengers sitting in the third row a clear view of the outside world)

Tata Gravitas Automatic Variant Spied For The First Time

tata-gravitas-AT-spied-1.jpg

Compared to the Harrier, the Gravitas, or H7X as previously known as, will have a longer rear overhang. The upcoming three-row SUV is 62 mm longer than the Harrier and behind the B-pillar, the changes can be clearly seen. To accommodate good headroom for the third-row occupants, the Gravitas has a bump on the roof and it rides on a set of new alloy wheels.

As you can see in the spy images, the Gravitas will be equipped with a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai while a six-speed manual could be offered as standard. The Gravitas’ interior comprises of the same horizontally-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, layered dashboard with chrome touches and a semi-digital instrument cluster.

Some more pics emerge, I have seen on another forum Gravitas doesn't seem to have the aircraft like hand brake but instead seem to have push button for hand brake. So that Aircraft lever is absent. it was a 6 seater , 2+2+2 configuration, color was same light blue as showcased in the auto show when it was first previewed. rest of the things were similar to that of existing Harrier.
One more addition, Gravitas has all 4 disc brakes.

Tata Gravitas (6 seat Harrier) spied testing with Land Rover Discovery ahead of Auto Expo unveil

2020 so far has been a very busy month for the car manufacturers. We saw a number of launches in the form of facelifts and new cars. One of the manufacturer who has been busy throughout the month was Tata Motors. They launched the all-new premium hatchback Altroz, along with facelifted versions of Tata Tiago, Tata Tiago and Tata Nexon with BS6 compliant engine. They also launched their first fully electric compact SUV Nexon EV last week. The next big launch that is awaited from the homegrown manufacturer is the Tata Gravitas SUV which will be unveiled at the upcoming Auto Expo in February. Gravitas has been spotted testing many times and this time around it was spotted with a Land Rover Discovery

The video has been uploaded by Samridh Tiwari on his youtube channel. According to the video, the car was spotted testing near Pune. Video shows the rear of the upcoming gravitas which is under heavy camouflage. The rear of the Gravitas look very similar to the Harrier. The car from which the video was shot could not keep up with the speed of the Gravitas. After some time, Gravitas is joined by another test vehicle which is the Land Rover Discovery.

Tata Gravitas To Get Same Hyundai Sourced 6-Speed AT Like Harrier

The Gravitas differs from Harrier when looked from the sides as it gets a longer rear overhang with a roof bulge to accommodate the third row of seats. We do expect the Gravitas to be sold as a six-seater as well as a seven-seater with the former getting a middle row captain seating arrangement. The equipment list mimics the Harrier as well with a touchscreen infotainment positioned in the middle of the dash.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Kryotec70 diesel engine, which is good enough to generate a maximum power output of 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. It is the same unit found in the Harrier and gets sourced from Fiat. The oil-burner is also used in Jeep Compass and MG Hector.

Gravitas was supposed to have a electronic hand break system with a button. But this vehicle has the same aircraft type hand break. So this puts a doubt on electronic hand break or will only top end Gravitas have the power hand break system?

This was an old prototype body. I spoke to the driver. This was just for engine and mileage testing. It also had old big mirrors. But it had powered driver seat.

Seven-Seater Tata Gravitas To Launch In India In Early 2021

tata-gravitas-suv-india-3.jpg

It appears that the Gravitas will debut in the final quarter of this financial year (January to March 2021 period) while the Hornbill will follow at a later period next year. The Gravitas will certainly help in consolidating the brand’s SUV portfolio and it will likely help in keeping the recent momentum the brand has endured, as it has been posting stellar YoY sales growth over the last three months.

The Gravitas and Harrier has almost everything in common except for subtle design updates and room for more occupants courtesy of the third row of seats. As for the dimensions, the Gravitas will be 63 mm longer and 80 mm taller while the wheelbase length will be identical to the five-seater Harrier. The equipment list is also expected to mimic that of the Harrier.

Now I get a feeling that Gravitas should be relooked. Now new Xuv is just round the corner with Autonomous L1 tech. Jazzy screens and all the blings like ventilated seats, and what nots. Going by old XUV, the new one will surely be a fully loaded one. So in that comparision Gravitas may be pretty bland looking one. we have seen and loved the harrier however similar front, less bling does not bode well for Gravitas.XUV will be a new fresh product on the block and gravitas and upgraded harrier which will definitely look a bit old.
So tata has to do couple of things if they are to launch Gravitas after xuv.
1. Tweak front looks to make it visibly different from Harrier
2. Load bling to hilt atleast for the top variant. (read, Ventialated seats, more jazzy screen options, some autonomus tech and may be connected car feature

I dont see any thing new or revealingin this ad, however, i feel, now here beeing toooooo optimistic, but i guess Gravitas may get auto closing Hatch like hectors or Fortuners of the world.
Definitely no Sunroof. But Tata should investigate on how a sunroof can be provided. Clearly they are seeing the success of same in the Harrier. So they should not leave out this new novel (so called Novel) aspect out of Gravitas which will be percieved as a 7 seater Harrier. Clearly there is no major differenciation between Harrier and Gravitas in the front.

Well what ideally should have happened for Gravitas to be sure shot contender and winner with new XUV/ Hector 6/7 seater is
1. Presence of Panoramic Sunroof, (Atleast sunroof toh de do)
2. Slight changes to the front to make it distinctively different than Harrier
3. since it will more premium over Harrier there should be instrument cluster and ICE changes (at least the visible changes)

But i am sure none of these would be done so not so hopeful with Gravitas. Will however still wait and see whats in store for the same. I may be in market for a newer 7 seater by next year, if Gravitas is appealing or if Hexa comes in with all guns blazing it might well be the Hexa 2.0. I have high hopes on Hexa over gravitas.
