The images were clicked when the new Thar was getting off-loaded from a trailer / truck. From the design elements, on the inside as well as on the outside, it is clear that this is the final production ready Thar, which will soon launch in India with BS6 engine.

Seen here is a 2 door variant of the new 2020 Thar, which will be offered in soft top as well as hard top. This time around, hard top will come as a company fitted option, and not like a dealer fitment / accessory.

Till now, multiple test mules of Mahindra’s second generation Thar have been spotted on test across the country. However, the details have been majorly restricted to the exterior profile of the car. Now, a latest video shows off a near production-spec camouflaged Thar inside out.

The video details the cabin of the Thar and it gives us multiple confirmations. As per expectations, the Thar now gets a floating touchscreen infotainment unit. It also gets a factory-fitted hard-top, which is another update when compared to the Thar which is currently on sale.

Customers will now be getting a FATC unit whose controls look way more premium than the AC controls of the current-gen Thar. Quality of upholstery used also looks good and it will help to add a premium feel to the off-roader. The gearshift lever has also been upgraded along with the 4X4 shifter. A folding key fob further adds to the feel-good factor of the vehicle.

2020 Mahindra Thar test driver shares video while driving

You may have come across a lot of spy shots of the upcoming Thar model (in its test mule avatar) on the internet over the months, but rarely a video on it. Now, in a first-of-its-kind video, a YouTuber has shared his riding experience in a new-gen Thar prototype.

Besides giving a vague picture of the 2020 Mahindra Thar’s dashboard, the short video also reveals the off-roaders exhaust note (rather faintly). A short pan to the new semi-digital instrument cluster shows the vehicle accelerating to speeds over 80km/h with relative ease.

2020 Mahindra Thar production ready variant spied on video

The latest spy video gives us a very good idea on the vehicle’s final production-spec design. For starters, the 2020 Mahindra Thar has definitely grown wider compared to its predecessor. The new off-roader has a more imposing road presence, thanks to wider seven-slat grille, new headlamps, flared wheel arches and a new bumper. The wheel-arch mounted turn indicator housings also accommodate LED DRLs. Overall, the new model looks pretty close to the widely acclaimed Jeep Wrangler. 2020 Mahindra Thar Launch In Mid 2020 – Confirmed

Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that the new-generation Thar SUV will hit the roads in the first quarter of the next fiscal year (i.e. mid 2020). Designed for off-road purpose, the Thar SUV will witness comprehensive upgrades with the generation change. What will come as a bit of a surprise will be the new 2.0L mStallion petrol engine that recently debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February.

If reports are to be believed, the new-generation Thar will come in 6 and 7-seats options along with Soft and Hard top. The second row of seats will be front facing. Safety features such dual airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), seat belt reminder, speed alert and central locking will be standard across the model lineup.

Better equipped and more powerful, 2020 Mahindra Thar will receive significant cosmetic changes. Upfront, there will be the signature 7-slat grille and circular headlamps. Design elements such as promounced wheel arches, five-spoke alloy wheels and new LED taillamps will further ehance its new look. The SUV’s new-generation model will also be bigger in size than the current generation.

Next-Gen Mahindra Thar To Be Unveiled On August 15

Mahindra & Mahindra calls the next generation Thar as a “quantum leap in terms of technology, comfort and safety features” without compromising on its off-road characteristics. It will be interesting to see how comfort and off-roading will blend into the same picture as the upcoming Thar will cater to a wider set of audience than it did previously.

The homegrown UV specialist has confirmed that the second generation Thar will be revealed on August 15 with all the necessary details and specifications through a live webcast that can be seen in the brand’s official social media channels and the dedicated website for Thar. Details on the test drive, bookings and deliveries will be unveiled at a later date.

The interior gets a major overhaul though as the dashboard and centre console design is brand new with the presence of a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Multi Info Display, cruise control, new multi-functional steering wheel with mounted controls, power folded ORVMs, multiple USB ports and new seats.

Next-Gen Mahindra Thar’s Official Teaser Released, Debut On 15th August

The upcoming Mahindra Thar will be a significant upgrade over the previous model, in terms of comfort, driveability, practicality, and even off-road characteristics. According to the company, the new Thar will be a “quantum leap in terms of technology, comfort and safety features”. While there will be a few key changes to the exterior design, it will be the interior that will undergo the biggest changes.

The new-generation Mahindra Thar will now offer a touchscreen infotainment system with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other than that, it will also come with a multi-function steering wheel, MID in the instrument console, and electrically-operated ORVMs. Rear passengers will now get forward-facing seats, rather than the inward-facing benches of the outgoing model.

This particular colour looks more majestic and suits the Thar. Hope Mahindra adds more attractive colours like the Jeep Wrangler.

You guys can design a different language than milking and copying Jeep designs. Its an opportunity wasted as the platform is new, when Mahindra brand can stand on his own. At least a new grill and a different interior designs can be done to make Thar much more desirable and not a copy cat of Wrangler

After the recent & ongoing imbroglio over the Roxor (M&M had to totally redesign the front vertical grill slats & provide horizontals) M&M would be well advised to keep the new Thar away from the USA - at least in its current form. These legal wrangles leave a bad taste in the mouth & for a great domestic major like M&M this is even more so.

Great! This looks like a worthy successor to the earlier Thar. And as hoped & expected, M&M have addressed most of the concerns / suggestions of the market. I just hope that M&M keep this far away from the US market after all the recent legal wrangling over the Roxor!
