Re: Nokia Lumia Series Smartphones Discussions and Experiences

Windows 8 truely is one hell of an refined OS. Yes Windows pnones doesn't have sparkling specs like Quad core processors or 2GB RAM or 64GB storage But the actual fact is Windows is a much refined OS than Android. For example if an app takes 512MB in an Android OS, in Windows 8 it will take less resources to the tune of 256-300MB (Info from a app developer who has 4years of dedicated experience in app deveopment). So Windows phones obviously doesn't need 2GB of memory or Quad core processors.

Only downside is less numbers of apps in Windows market and strict control on hardware of the device by Microsoft. Each Win8 phones hardware are controlled by Microsoft. So even if you have quad core technology Microsoft won't allow you to deply Win8 OS with it.[frustration]

Sankar
Very well explained .

But again why we need quad core if dual core works great ? Some games might need it I agree but then its again not a deal breaker .

I don't think the lumia 620 will lag , mine is a lumia 800 single core processor and never ever it has lagged .

Re: Nokia Lumia Series Smartphones Discussions and Experiences

1. There are enough apps if we really search and most of them are free and great to use and funny things at all
2. Dual core works excellent and I have tested the browsing with both 2G and 3G both are really fast
3. If some body got used for apps of Android then he may feel bit short in WP but once he become used to it then will understand all those apps in WP are useful one.
4. Yes restrictions on hardware and functioning is required when they call optimisation and it is good for the device to give you 100% performance and lag free experience[:)]

I feel glad to own a WP8 device and credit goes to Raja who made me to think about this and for the first time I have seen the device with WP in the hands of Raja

But hardwrae restrictions will be lifted soon. Now WP8 devices will come with Quad ore phones with some exceptional graphics package. But i suppose all thosewill take some time.

Are you sure it lagging? Does your sis use her phone with lots of apps running in background? Normally windows 8 doesn't lag unless one has opened lots of apps simultaneously. Do check on this as multiple apps which one doesn't use should be closed as it slows the phone and creates lag and also uses a lots of battery and data connection.

Sankar
yeah it does sometimes. i haven't experienced it yet and i have told my sister to use back button everytime to exit any application.

though a game crashed once i was playing.

MODS : Sorry for B2B posts.

FM Radio to be activated with next update for WP8. Way to go Nokia [clap]

FM Radio coming to Windows Phone 8 in a few months
both are good news [:)] this means they are keeping their promises and adding applications.

will check the game in some time.

Let me explain it to you with a classic example that will suit TAI.

VW Vento is one accomplished sedan. It has 100BHP diesel engine. Its main competitor is Hyundai Verna which has almost 130BHP. Even though one can never use Verna's 130BHP because of it's softly tuned suspension and terrible highway manners everyone buys Verna because its more powerful. Vento sells on average 1600-1700 per month while Verna sells 4800-5000 per month.

We Indians always look at long feature list before we buy something even if half of those features will never be used. For example Samsung S3 has 2GB of ram, Quad core 1.5GHz processor and iPhone 4 has 512MB of ram and single core 1Ghz processor. But the 3D game Temple Run2 will work more flawlessly in iPhone and doesn't work so good in Samsung. For a price of a dual core WP8 phone you get a Quad core Android phone. People will always go for Android phones in such a scenario. Sales figures of Samsung S4 vs any WP8 phones will show my point[:)]

Re: Nokia Lumia Series Smartphones Discussions and Experiences

@Sankar,
I do not know about Temple Run (as i am not a gamer). My Bro-in-Law got an iPhone 4s, he was talking on skype and gave the phone for me to talk and it was heating up with in 10-12 minutes of talk ! I didnt find that even in My Dell Streak.

In any Operating System, you can make it slow or faster depending on the things installed/ running on the start-up etc.

With my Stock ROM 2.2, I had no control over system applications running in the background. After reading from xda, i rooted the ROM and removed few system apps which were not needed. Then the performance was better. Then I went for the extreme step. Installed the custom ROM. Now my mobile works much better than before. Initially i was not getting the backup the way I am getting now (Exact two Years 28th March 11).

So, it is not just the Hardware gives the optimum performance. It depends on the users who (ab)use it.

I use for everything except gaming/camera.

No mate everything is interconnected in a smartphone. I am not saying iPhone won't ever lag. My point is IOS is a more refined OS and uses much less resources to do it's business compared to an android phone.

In a smart phone it' screen uses most battery, then comes 3g usage processor, ram and normal phone functions.

iPhone 4 has 3.5in of screen, 1Ghz single core processor, 512MB of RAM and has 1500mah battery. While Samsung Galaxy uses 4in screen, 1GHZ single core processor, 512MB ram and uses 1500mah battery. Even with identical specs iPhone had much better touch and OS and also it performance was way better than galaxy S. Then came galaxy S2 with dual core processor 1GB of ram but with 1650mah battery. Still iphone 4 could hold on even if S2 was way powerful only because of IOS refinement and judious resource usage. When ever one looks at free RAM in a S2 it will always show 300-400MB free out of 1GB[frustration].

Just imagine a iphone which has comparable specs with say Samsung S4. Then iPhone will have true PC computing powers using IOS.

Sankar

By the way my phone is 5". If you have a lesser processing and more memory, it won't do any good. Seen s3 with super fast loading of apps and another s3 with lagging on same apps. OS and the running apps are a vital part in performance. Did not hear from your friends "we both having same configuration, but mine is very slow" ?

as I am already on off topic, would like to continue on android /windows/ios thread
