Re: A Peak Summer Southern Odyssey - 5000 Kms Round Trip To Kerala
Before reaching Kolhapur, stopped for fuel and found a restaurant next to the Fuel station.
After that it was just cruising through NH48 (old NH4).
Road between Kolhapur and Belgaum was excellent.
Between Belgaum and Hubli there is a two lane stretch.
Speed breakers in the 4 lane highway near Hubli was irritating.
It was night and those indicators for speed breakers were deceiving - There are indicators on the road and you slow down and find out there is no speed breaker. Its repeated again within 1 km. Ignore the indicator for the third time and you end up in a stupid hump (made in a crude way). Many times speed breakers appear without any indication also.
Found an easy way then not exactly to identify speed breakers but to locate the exit to Hubli. Saw an i10 and assumed (from the number plate) that car is from that locality and followed them. They must have got suspicious - we were just following them. Slowing down when they slow down and speed up when they do until they pulled aside and drove into a dabha.
We missed the exit and went ahead another 10 km. Found another exit with the help of guys from a toll booth.
{Earlier, while searching for route and Hotels, found out a hotel in Hubli and booked our rooms. Hotel Metropolis was getting good reviews in some sites. Confirmed our accomodation over phone while on the move.}
Went around two times through those empty Hubli streets at midnight due to a confusion created by the person who attended the phone at hotel.
We were told by hotel reception that parking area is nothing but road side opposite to the Hotel. (May be this what they meant in their website that 'You may ask for assistance for parking')
Finally we checked in at 1.30 AM.
Rooms were not bad and OK for an overnight stay.
There were no restaurants in the Hotel even though it was showing 4 restaurants in their website.
Checked out and had break fast in a restaurant in same building complex. At 8.00 AM we were the first customers for them.
